I did a 25 year old boat trailer and top coated with chassis black, and now a few years in and nothing shows rust , all brushed on , only 1 coat. Recently did my truck bed and I can say that it’s been easy to use and for me it’s the only thing I use from now on

In my experience using this product if you take rust down to clean metal with a wire wheel or sandblasting, definitely takes more than one coat to seal everything up or rust will start coming back through if you actually actually drive your vehicle in the weather a few times If it’s not just a restoration project that’s going to be kept in a garage.

Great product, if you just want a cheap and fast "back to black". What I'm more concerned with, is minimum mil thickness, and if it's a skinned encapsultor. If you sand skinning ecapsulator, you lose most of the protection. If you're just using it in single stage, it's not an issue... but as a base for paint, it's something customers should know.

Would this be good for some rust on my disc brake rotor hats that are getty rusty or would something like caliper paint be a better option for that?

There are methods to painting rotors when they are brand new - we're not going to advise you to paint a used, rusty, brake rotor.

Can I sand it and add more coats of it, like using primer to fill small metal imperfections?
@eastwoodco2 ай бұрын
From the site: 6. If top coating: apply top coat after 4 hrs., or before 48 hrs. NOTE: If a smoother surface finish is desired, product can be mechanically sanded with 320 grit before top coating. 7. If top coating is desired after 48 hrs., surface must be scuff sanded with 320 grit paper to assure top coat adhesion. 8. Clean all spray equipment with acetone or lacquer thinner. So you could add more - or abrade and prime.

I have an application I am considering using this on. I have an old hvac unit that has rust on an internal component. The HVAC company has advised me that the unit cannot be replaced due to it's age. It is currently still working and I want to prolong it's life as long as possible so scraping rust off at this point is probably not a good idea. Maybe a mild rub with one of your spray products will do the trick. Can I use one of your products to protect it from further rust. Maybe add a coat of liquid metal and then encapsulate it. This is a heat and air unit. Do I need to get a respirator to apply these products? I have an n95 mask. Not sure about the 350 degrees you mentioned in this video.

Can this be thinned to get it into small joints or corners? Do you need any primer on top if you paint over it or is there any limit to what kind of paints you can use? Charles
@eastwoodco9 ай бұрын
Yes, it can be thinned with xylene up to 10%. Topcoat able with virtually any high-quality coating - primer wise it would be up to you depending on your application. For example, we recently coated a frame in Rust Encapsulator Plus then Extreme Chassis Black - we didn't use a primer in between as both were black.

So whats this different from por products
@reedstemen9 ай бұрын
por is more expensive for no more benefits. I ruined a truck’s body repairs using por products, looks good for the first year then breaks off in strips and chips, does not matter how good your prep work is.
@eastwoodco9 ай бұрын
We don't know the formulation of competitor products... but this will seal the rust off from receiving any more oxygen and stop it from rusting any further, then can be left or top coated, and has EXCELLENT adhesion properties. We've seen those other guys stuff fail and flake off after a year or so - ours will not do that.
@danielbyrne58624 ай бұрын
I am using Eastwood on my floor pan repair over por 15 because it sticks better to bare metal and also rust I have both. with less prep . I have read about por 15 not sticking to clean metal.

@caseybyington71979 ай бұрын
They thoroughly explained it, but let me help you further. By "just cover up the rust" he means that people ask if it "just covers up the rust and the problem, leaving the rust to continue to rust." Then he explains that, no, it creates a barrier that denies the rust oxygen, therefore stopping the rust from rusting further. Do you work for some other tool place or something? I see negative people on here all the time. I've bought quite a few things from this company and so far I've had great experiences. I've also been associated with some of their other services and subscriptions and what not and it's been great. I don't understand the negativity around this company at all.

I'm sorry... what was your point? It clearly says "rust encapsulator"... not "dissolver" or "converter".... ENCAPSULATOR. It's a polymer coating with a solvent compound that allows the binders to seep into the rust for better adhesion than typical chassis paint. That's it. No more. No less.
@eastwoodco9 ай бұрын
Hot take in the comments! Simply put Rust Encapsulator Plus seals off the rust and denies it oxygen so it can't rust any further - encapsulating it so that you have a clean rust free surface to work with.
