Lol YES, or as a kid, seeing one of your teachers at the grocery store, and their spouse calls them by their first name. 😂 Back in 1983, _Raiders of the Lost Ark_ was re-released to theaters for a couple of weeks, and my siblings and I went to see it again. I ran into my sophomore-year (year I was in in high school) biology teacher coming out of the previous showing, and she said, "Oh, it's so good, you'll love it!" I said, "I know! We saw it two years ago, and it's great to see it again in the theater!" I introduced her to my siblings (both younger), and we said that we'd see each other in school Monday. Then her husband walked up and said, "Vera, do you want the rest of this popcorn?"

Lol. Short story. I was loopy from what a Doc kept me on (Ativan, high dose) for days when I didn't need it (it was a ER drug given, ONE dose only). Mom called the ER doc asking why I was still on it days later since MINE didn't give answers. ER doc showed up when my Doc was assessing me one day, I said "HI Sean", and my Doc went PALE... Oopsie, I gave him 'wrong' (read:accurate) answers and he thought I was delusional and kept me on it for days. "HI Sean" to the ER Doc got it fixed in a minute! (Days to come off it though...). Note: I've 'known' Sean since I was born...at the time of this, I was 38.

I'm an ER nurse, and we've had two cases just this year of priapism (an erection that lasts for an unusually long time, usually 3+ hours, or is painful and can't be reversed even after orgasm). Each time the patient is so embarrassed they have showed me a note on their phone in triage instead of saying it out loud. They're also shocked when I make them top priority and get them back to a room right away. Priapism, like penile fracture is an actual medical emergency, especially because that trapped blood can clot and then cause a host of complications. The treatment is pretty simple: We drain the blood so that the corpus cavernosum can relax and the patient goes home that same day. So, listen to the doctors: If your penis is really sick, bring it in! No shame!

if you were really rough with giving oral to a penis and bruised your cheek or roof of mouth then the dentist WOULD be able see the bruising and they will probably ask about it (I know from experience...). They also look for bruising in the mouth with children to look for signs of possible sexual assault. My sister got her certificate in dental assisting and had to learn about that.

omg thats crazy dr/ dental assistants need to look out for this . Yeah. As a petite woman…a very, very good friend who is dental assistant has warned me about the bruising…but it takes a trained eye and apparently you having done “A LOT” (quite recently) to notice. That being said, if you are a teen, or an adult, they usually ask about boyfriends and look for other signs of SA etc…but it takes pretty rough stuff to be seen clearly. That being said, as a former teacher, it is so (heartbreakingly) more common than people realize…I’m so glad they look for it (and other signs too). They aren’t going to automatically assume you are being hurt, unless you ate just very, very young. Some kids see very few mandatory reporters a year… dentists, doctors, nurses, etc. who catch such things are rockstars! (I just wish they didn’t have to worry about it at all). And if you are a teen…don’t worry about it…but if they do ask questions about boyfriends, whether you are “dating someone” “how is it going” “what they are like”…” etc, it may be more than just general interest (or it might just the general interest…I KNOW my friend had no room to judge, and doesn’t…she just wants get patients safe!). But, if they ask, don’t assume they have seen anything. Dentists, dental workers, are are covered by HIPPA too…they can NOT tell your parents (or anyone else) if it was voluntary…and are safe people to trust with the info. have been SA’d (or not). They’d lose their jobs and might be prosecuted if they told anyone other than the authorities…or anyone else…(if it was voluntary. If you admitted it wasn’t, they’d make sure you were protected and safe). So unless it’s your mom’s best friend or the town gossip, I wouldn’t be concerned about it beforehand or not. They know other signs to look for if it’s voluntary or not, too…again, no one is going to assume it isn’t without other evidence. (Who can tell I taught teenagers who often had anxiety?)
@bunnyrabi10 ай бұрын
I would not say that a dentist would notice nor would I say a dental assistant is trained to notice. Dentists are all different with all different specializations they also all have different experiences. Dental assistant school is less and less required these days and a lot of schools don't even teach ad much as they used to. However of course any obvious abnormal bruising would be taken notice of, and may be referred to a specialist if the professional who noticed is not experienced enough to diagnosis it.

In addition to the lesions (in excess of 20 in number), he had purplish palate that looked like Kaposi's sarcoma. The small lesions appeared to be primary herpetic gingivostomatitis. He reported that he already got "cold sores." I said its likely a different herpetic infection. Encouraged him to have immediate HIV test. He asked if the purple could be anything else. It is common for people to have one side of the body slightly larger than the other. I have done no studies, but have long suspected that this extends to all of the body, and one side being larger causes curvature. Also suspect that babies find one arm to be stronger and learn to grasp with that hand. A long time ago I read somewhere, for whatever it is worth, that the two sides of the body "grow independently" in the womb, causing the slight mismatch.

They’re there to treat what ails you and get you back on your feet as soon as they can. Trust me. I was 37 years old and had been bleeding rectally off and on for a few months and finally decided to get the courage to tell my doctor. He referred me to a gastroenterologist and they did a colonoscopy where they found a cancerous legion. I was then booked for surgery to remove it within a few months and thankfully the legion was caught super early on so no further treatment needed other than to have regular colonoscopies from then on to keep an eye on things.

@hailyjohnson40710 ай бұрын
@nataliemcmillan2605 many non-Westernized cultures have a third gender in their culture. As one commenter mentioned, it is present in some Indian cultures, as well as some Native American/Aboriginal tribal cultures. Additionally, biologically, there are several types of abnormalities with hormones vs chromosomes that could result in someone being intersex (meaning their biological sex is not distinctly male or female). Although rare, it is still common enough that medical professionals need to be aware of it and sensitive to it, because it's common enough that they will likely have several patients throughout their career who are intersex. Gender and sex are also considered as two separate things based on modern literature and research, so it is possible to be biologically one sex but mentally identify with a gender that does not match your sex. It's a very interesting topic, and if you want to know more, I would suggest googling information about intersex, two-spirit, non-binary, and trans people to learn more, as I'm certainly not an expert, just someone who likes to read.
@roboslug75829 ай бұрын
@@nataliemcmillan2605 Technically, even if we accept that gender and biological sex (as determined by genitalia, ie phenotypically) are exactly congruent, with no deviation psychologically or physiologically, there would still be four possible "gender configurations", because two squared equals four, similar to how you would predict Mendelian inheritance with two inputs. In such a minimalist case, there could be people with male genitalia, female genitalia, both (hermaphrodite), or neither (sexually ambiguous). And all of those configurations are real and have been medically documented, which breaks the binary phenotypical classification of sex or gender. And it only gets more complex from there. If we view gender in terms of genotype, there are also more than two, because sometimes people can have multiple copies of either an X or Y chromosome. Granted, virtually all such cases are genetic defects that cause a person to be unable to reproduce. But that said, such conditions do exist and have also been medically documented, which breaks the binary genotypical classification of sex or gender. Lastly, that first assumption I mentioned--that there is no gap between the presentation of external genitalia and the psychological affinity toward one stereotypical mode of sexual expression or another--is just patently false. For starters, there's a spectrum of targets of sexual attraction, with people falling on all different points between straight and gay. There's also a spectrum of intensity of sexual attraction, from hypersexual to asexual. And there's a spectrum of sexual identity, including man, woman, and numerous variants of "I'm not sure", "I don't care" and "None of the above". And that's admittedly a purely psychological thing, but then again, the love that people feel for their partner is also a purely psychological thing. Does that make it fake or imaginary or worthless? In my opinion, no. I think love is a very real thing, even though it's literally "all in my head". So, by that same reasoning, a purely psychological expression of gender, even if it's defined in terms that do not closely match the phenotypical and genotypical definitions of sex, is equally real, and has a similarly profound impact on emotional expression and, consequently, happiness. That doesn't mean I necessarily always agree with every public policy proposal offered up by the non-binary community, but I don't deny the reality and validity of their gender identity simply because is not manifest genetically or anatomically. And if you find yourself disagreeing with them on those points, by all means, try to have that conversation with them in a respectful and meaningful way. Incidentally, for non-binary folks and allies, please be open to such conversations, because there's a lot of complexity here and there are often viable solutions that work for both sides. But the real point here is, don't be so quick to dismiss something just because it doesn't match your own experience. The human mind and body are incredibly complex, and their many features and functions rarely fit into neatly ordered boxes.

When I was 6 I saw "sex is good" graffiti'd in the school bathroom. I asked my mom what sex was, she said it was a very special kind of hug that only adults do. When I was 12 or 13 my mom gave me the full, in detail, talk. (I was homeschooled at this point, so I didn't have a class for this.) She took me out for a walk in the woods initially just to explain that I'd be getting my first period soon, I asked more questions and she ended up unprepared. So since she didn't have any materials, she took a stick and drew diagrams in the dirt for me. My first question was to demand that she tell me that she had never done something so disgusting. She reminded me that I exist. I remembered that I have a bother, did some quick math, and exclaimed in absolute horror, "OH MY GOD YOU DID IT TWICE! 😱" My second and last question was "but what if he pees in me??" She explained that it's not really something they can do once hard. I hid in my room for the rest of the day after swearing off sex and demanding that my dad confirm that peeing inside someone isn't an option. 🤣😂 The swearing off it hasnt gone so great. But oh well. Again, all age appropriate. I knew the correct names of all my anatomy and my brothers as well. I just never made the "penis meets vagina" or mouth or whatever connection until 12 or 13 when it was broken down for me by my mother in the above conversation. That conversation also included condoms and birth control. I knew vaguely about periods because mom had Endo and thus awful periods, but I didn't know the details so she broke it down for me. Nothing she taught me that day didn't have an already solid foundation which began construction pretty much from the time I could talk. ☺️ Editing to add another thought so I don't bombard you with reply notifications, sorry. 🤣 The earliest I knew people would want to touch me was when I was about 4ish, when I threw a shit fit that my friends that were boys could go outside without a shirt on, but I couldn't. My mom had to explain to me that it was for my safety. Good times. She and I both know it's not about the clothes btw. She was just doing what little she could to try to mitigate if she could. But yeah, people hurting me, and the word "sex" were not connected in my head until later. But I have known practically my whole life that it was something to be aware of. I didn't need details to know that someone touching my body in a way I didn't want was bad. Those can come later.

Don't most adults know that? one is the foreskin one is the clitoris.
@woedendstewadpier492210 ай бұрын
There are differences between male and female circumcision. It is however possible to remove the skin covering the clitoral gland. That would be the equivalent. Of course nobody in their right mind would do that because that would expose sensitive parts to friction and dryness. You have the same effect for the penis and the gland in the penis is way bigger too. I am very disappointed that they talked about cancer prevention (which they say basically almost never happens anyways) instead of the very real protective functionality of foreskin. Just thinking about having frostbite on this sensitive gland dents shivers down my spine.
@DanielleNicoleMakeup10 ай бұрын
@woedendstewadpier4922 totally agree! My point was that female "circumcision" is not "just" removing the clitoral hood though. It is often sewing the vaginal canal almost completely shut and attempting to remove the entire clitorus removing any pleasure and causing serious health problems. This thought alone makes me shiver too. We need more education and respect for our bodies

While the circumcised person may be less likely to acquire new STDs, there is some concern they may spread them easier as some levels of circumcision can completely remove what self lubrication and reduce mobility of the skin that the penis has, and thus causes more micro tears in partner's; which can lead to higher infection rates for many STDs. That stuck with me when researching circumcision and foreskin restoration.

It was incredibly uncomfortable getting a pelvic exam by a male doctor before I even hit puberty. We had quite a few visits with him but he never identified the issue and all his remedies failed. The only thing that eventually worked was seeing a chiropractor, but that only fixed things for about a week or so at a time and we couldn't afford to keep going every week (plus he did a bad adjustment on my neck once and I told my mom I was never going back. Some great points. I feel the need to reiterate the circumcision stance because that should absolutely be up to an adult to make about their own body. Personally I can't imagine the benefits of circumcising outside of religious reasons because the benefits of NOT circumcising are so many. But when your child is older they can decide for themselves if they should remove it. It's not up to you to decide for them. Period. No exceptions.
@tinkeramma10 ай бұрын
There are limited benefits to some children who are dealing with other concerns involving the penis. Circumcision as a treatment for something problematic that's actually happening seems very different to me than ritual surgery on a newborn who can't consent. Depending on the severity of the problems being addressed, I don't agree that there are no exceptions. I know a mother with a medically complex son who had recurrent UTIs that affected him so severely that the UTIs and fever plus his other conditions became life-threatening. He was young enough that even if he didn't have a developmental delay, there's no way he could consent. At the same time, that decision was clearly made in the best interest of her child, not for aesthetics, religion, or avoiding the minor effort to keep an intact penis clean. Parents need the authority to pursue medical care for their children's conditions when they become reality and not theoretical. Everything else can wait.
@makeavoy10 ай бұрын
@@tinkeramma sorry I meant cosmetic circumcision, I should have been more specific. The authority to allow surgery for medical benefits is something that's up to a doctor. A parent doesn't decide if you need your appendix removed, the doctor does. Circumcision shouldn't be any different, but I know that's not going to happen. At the very least parents should be educated on the benefits of keeping it. Because it wont grow back.
@tinkeramma10 ай бұрын
@makeavoy Depending on the country where a family lives, the parents' role varies. Certainly surgery isn't happening without a doctor, but in the US, parents are definitely involved in the decision. Currently, doctors are also consenting to performing cosmetic circumcision. I'm not sure how we address that versus the religious rights people have here, but I agree -- this should not be done to someone who is unable to consent.

The issue with circumcision that the men in my life have mentioned is that the head gets desensitized because it is constantly exposed. So it's constantly rubbing against much harsher material than the inside of soft skin.
@woedendstewadpier492210 ай бұрын
When you talk about circumcision, please mention the protective properties of foreskin. It protects the gland from dryness, friction and frostbite. While a circumcised penis will adapt somewhat to the friction part, and a little regarding the dryness, nothing can prepare the gland for cold weather. Sometimes the foreskin is retracted and the gland exposed in the pants (can happen when you have had an erection while wearing pants), I can tell you how uncomfortable that is. It feels like somebody forcefully rubbing sandpaper on my most sensitive body part. Maybe mention that instead of saying something about a cancer that basically almost never happens anyways. And if you get the cancer you can still remove it. I would rather have both my ears and a finger removed, than my foreskin.

@meganwoehl527710 ай бұрын
It also reduces risk of STDs and infections. If we're talking about grown men who consent to this, there probably isn't much benefit as they should be responsible enough to clean it and use best practices for preventing an STD. For children that have it done without their consent, while there is a huge issue around whether it is ethically/morally right to do this before they can consent, there also is the huge benefit of decreased infections. As babies, parents can clean beneath the foreskin for them. But as the child gets more independent and starts cleaning themselves, there's a good chance they won't be cleaning it too thoroughly and are at risk of infections. So its not just a cosmetic choice, it's a hygiene choice. I'm still undecided if I think it is right or wrong to perform it on someone who cannot consent, but at this point I'm just going to mind my business and let the parents decide. I don't have kids, I'm not sure if I want kids, so I'm not going to judge a parent for deciding either way.

@meganwoehl527710 ай бұрын
Yes. However it's quite rare to get bruising in your mouth from oral, unless it was very rough. It's important that they are able to identify it though because young children who have been forced into doing that are far more likely than an adult to present with bruising. Dentists are also mandatory reporters, so noticing something like this (something that typically doesn't leave much evidence behind and can be easily missed by other mandatory reporters) can literally save lives. If you're an adult, or an older teen who has performed oral consensually though, no need to worry. Dentists are also part of HIPAA so they cannot disclose this to anyone unless they have reason to believe it is part of abuse.

@Areyousayingidontknowmyname that makes absolutely no sense. Sperm aren't animals or living beings that can experience pain. Veganism is not the same as plant based. Veganism is an ethical stance that intends to reduce animal cruelty and exploitation as much as possible by refusing to consume or use products of said exploitation. It just so happens that "plant based" generally fits in with that goal. In the context of consenting adults, consuming or using semen would definitely be considered vegan, even though it's not "plant based" because it doesn't rely on exploitation or suffering and is freely given, or taken with consent.

Also humans are animals and can give consent, both statements can be true. I don't think just because humans are animals it voids the consent statement. It's interesting that she's saying that literally removing nerves doesn't change sensation. It would have been nice if she would have talked about the risk/percentage of penile cancer. Reducing your risk from 0000.000000001 to 0 doesn't seem like a reason to amputate part of your sex organs just in case.

It's not just about penile cancer though, it also reduces your risk for STDs, like she says in the video

Whether or not circumcision changes sensation depends largely on what type of circumcision surgery is performed. There are multiple types, some are more invasive than others. The less invasive surgery type only causes a minimal change in function, if anything. More invasive surgery? More problems. The foreskin itself doesn’t really have very many nerves on its own. It’s just a small flap of skin. It’s the structure near the foreskin that has all the nerve endings.

@@marthahawkinson-michau9611THANK YOU, sooo many people keep describing it as this barbaric act that is basically abusing a baby for no reason and removing function, which isn't true.

@@material-cheshirekhatter2413I only see people describing it as what it is, a usually unnecessary body modification procedure. And it does cause pain and has its own risks. And doing it to a child who can't consent, on the off chance it prevents an unlikely infection or cancer just seems unethical to me.

RE circumcision and cancer. If it seems focused in the foreskin anyway, wouldn't that be the part removed if cancer occurred as an adult? And does penile cancer hit a small or large percentage of uncircumcised men? Because unless it's actually an issue that is happening enough to make it a "problem", I don't see why circumcision would be the go-to pre-treatment for an ailment that might never come. It's like taking out an appendix to avoid possible appendicitis at some point in your life. Effective, but most likely unnecessary. Considering most of the world doesn't perform this on their babies, have we checked how many males are dealing with penile cancer in other countries as a result?
@ouwebrood49710 ай бұрын
It's a ridiculous argument to justify circumcision on children to prevent the extremely rare cases of penile cancer. By this reaoning, it would make more sense to do preventive mastectomies, but we all understand that would be really bad.
@cassievining34010 ай бұрын
@@ouwebrood497 I agree completely. Think of all the women who’ve died from breast cancer. It would make far more sense to do preemptive mastectomies as a preventative measure for that then to continue circumcision in the off chance of cancer developing in the foreskin. We all know (if we’re being honest) that Americans generally have an impossible time working through cultural changes, and men who’ve had it done aren’t likely to want to say it’s unnecessary mutilation because it already happened to them. Is it the absolute worst thing that can happen? Not if everything goes right. But odd cuts, infections, and if it’s being done by Mohel, there was one instance (that made it to the news, anyways) of a Mohel that had passed Type 1 Herpes to three babies, one of whom died.

Vegan usually reflects the rejection of the commodification of animals. So this has to do with consent of the animal. So if you have consent of the human animal you are taking something from then it’s probably vegan?

IF only the meaning was only about consent. .But its not its about it being a product of an animal.. Sperm is also a living creature in its own way. Cant give consent. Awkward hey. All those Vegans out there murdering in the billions ;)

@jelatinosa10 ай бұрын
@@Areyousayingidontknowmynameyou are conflating "plant based" with veganism, as many people do and is the reason for this question. Veganism is an ethical stance that intends to reduce harm and exploitation of animals as much as possible by avoiding the consumption of the products that come from said exploitation. If human sperm ever becomes such a commodity that men are rounded up and made to ejaculate against their will to take their semen, then it would not be vegan. If you consume the semen of your consenting adult partner who freely and willingly gave it, it's vegan. Non human animals cannot consent, and to stay on the topic of semen, the way humans take semen from a bull for example, is cruel and disturbing. They put a prod up their anuses and send a painful electrical current through their prostate and the muscle that prevents them from becoming erect, forcing them to ejaculate. In that instance, it's not vegan. Also, the act of using that semen to forcefully impregnate a young heifer is not vegan. Then taking away the calf so that we can collect the colostrum and milk she produces for it, is also not vegan. Buying the milk or consuming it wouldn't be vegan because it creates demand for the cruelty and exploitation to continue.

I know a guy who woke up and had to pee but he had morning wood and couldn’t bend it down to the toilet. He bent it so hard that it snapped. He said it turned black and was bleeding internally. He went to the hospital. The doctor said it was under so much pressure that the meat just snapped. He had surgery to repair it. It healed eventually but He says it still has a knot about halfway up the shaft. I’ve also heard of this happening when a woman is on top and she leans back too far.
