Perhaps the most underrated artist alive. Dirk Wears White Sox is probably in my top 10, def in my top 20 all-time faves, and i've worked at a record store for 10 years and have been worshipping music since I was 3.

My first ever gig was Adam and the Ants on the Prince Charming Revue tour in 1981. Kings of the Wild Frontier is still one of the best albums I've ever heard and stands up today. That sound was timeless and hence hasn't dated at all.
@jas227 жыл бұрын
I agree about "Kings" - it is a terrific album. I do not like the others much at all, I think because they were considerably less about the song elements and more with the unusual vocals. But I have been enjoying "Kings of the Wild Frontier' and their hits the last couple of weeks. I had no idea, though, that Adam had such an opinion on drugs and so forth. He was so damn cool because of that while still being expressive, unique, and quite a performer. I think the world of Marco's style of playing and how that made the songs on "Kings" what they were. Another guitarist I love who is shadowed but contributes so magnificently to his band is ironically named Marcos...Marcos Curiel of P.O.D. and The Accident Experiment (which I enjoyed much more than POD).

I was obsessed with Adam and the Ants as a teenager, and because of them, I steered clear of alcohol and drugs. So many of my friends came to bad ends as a result of drugs and drinking, and Adam helped me avoid all of that. Now as a 56-year-old man with teenagers, I’m so grateful to Adam for having the integrity not to steer kids in the wrong direction. In that comment that he told the fan about how his parents were his best friends was amazing.

In my 50s and its a sobering thought to know that life will never get better than the 80s.
@tenthousanddaysofgratitude Жыл бұрын
Life seems better in the 80s because we were teenagers or young adults then. That was our youth. We romanticize our youth. But if you look back to the 80s, we were at the apex of the Cold War, coming out of the stagflation of the 70s and people were becoming incredibly selfish, individualist and greedy. The yuppie lived alongside Adam Ant, Billy Idol and Souixie and the Banshees. Kids today will look back in 30 or 40 years with the same fondness we have for the 80s. It’s our youth we miss. We did have a wicked time, didn’t we? 💖
@stormy33076 ай бұрын
@@tenthousanddaysofgratitudeHate to break it to you but everyone is still looking back at the 80s as the peak of humanity. Because it was. Of course it wasn't perfect, nothing is, but it's as close as we got.
@vi-ys1ul2 ай бұрын
@@tenthousanddaysofgratitudeI’m in my youth at 16 years old and I can tell that there was some kind of cultural shift that made life suck more for teenagers now. Social media has rotted peoples brains beyond belief. And it’s like $100-$400 to go to a concert or show of someone you like. We also live in a pop, rap, and soloist dominated era when I prefer rock and metal. Only decent thing that’s come out of this generation is some good indie artists here and there

I was at a charity benefit on the HMS Belfast about 10 years ago and there were all these well known people there. The music for the evening was Adam Ant and Hawkwind of all people. It was a funny line-up. I was talking to a friend there when Adam Ant arrived. I glanced over and said to my friend, "hey, it's Adam Ant." He heard me. He was cool and went down into the bowels of the ship to get ready to play. I hung around on the deck and after he was done playing, he walked by with his arm around a very pretty Asian woman. As they walked by, she said to him, "you dropped your guitar when you were finished!" Without missing a beat, he looked right at me and said to her, "that's rock and roll, baby." 😂

My favorite Adam and the Ants album is _Dirk Wears White Sox,_ but I don't think that version of the band was as talented as the next one; they were just very creative and Adam had great songs. I heard the American edition first, and when I got the full CD edition (many years later), which had all the songs on it, I realized what was originally released in the UK was a very different album, and sadly not as good. It's incredible how he came back from major career changes to such tremendous success. Had to LOL at some of those kids, though -- they don't know what they're talking about, they just love the music, but they don't know why. Just say that!
