Try going the chemical plant act 2 and play through it until you reach the area with the huge space(the one where if you head left you can reach a special stage ring) and glide with Ray,you gain a ludicrous amount of speed

Micah Buzan yeah Ray and even mighty to an extent feel way more like additions only for speedrunners and not for regular people cos they don't feel as natural to use as sonic tails and knuckles, but probably are better once you've spent time learning them. Mighty annoys me though, I keep accidently slamming into the ground cos I guess I'm used to double tapping the jump button for the last 25 years

I was late to the Sonic Mania party, having picked up Sonic Mania Plus about 3 days ago for the Switch, but holy crap. This game beat the shit out of me with nostalgia. It's literally my childhood encapsulated into one Sonic game. And for that, I LOVE it.

I had a pretty tough childhood but one of my pleasant memories is playing video games with the few friends I did have. Literally, videos games helped me read by the time I was 4! They'd have to make 3 different transitions from Hydrocity to Mirage Saloon. One for the plane level, one for Knuckles', and one for Encore Mode. Though I guess there could have been a fade to them jumping on the Tornado or even just flying on it before fading to the level proper.

I just wanted to chime in and say that your little cartoonized version of yourself might be the only one I've seen on KZbin that actually looks like you and doesn't try to slim 20-50 pounds off. I've been shocked in the past when I've seen some of my favorite KZbinrs for the first time (usually streaming on Twitch) after only seeing their little cartoon portraits.

Being able to use the "game options" on save files is my favorite addition. I can't play through the whole thing in one shot, so if I want to beat the game with the insta-shield & Knuckles, I don't want to have to give up the emeralds when I start up again. They put in a sound test code for the emeralds anyway, so that's cool. The flying Super Sonic code is pretty sweet too.

Personally, I feel that the team mechanic of Encore mode was exactly what the game needed to carve an unique identity for itself that feels wholy different from the Genesis-era titles. Sure, the reused zones did have new layouts and gimmicks, but it still wasn't enough to shake off the feeling that I were just playing through a grab-bag of Sonic's greatest hits.

I didn't think anything was wrong with the hydrocity transition personally. It explained what it needed to. A path opened up to get them out of that otherwise inescapable area. The rest you can just put together, "oh they got on the plane to hunt down eggman and now they got ambushed."

11:08 There's already mods of Sonic Mania (and its Plus expansion); Of the few I've seen, there's one that makes Sonic's sprites look more like Sonic 3, one that replaces Sonic & Knuckles' respective hues to look less pink and turquoise, and also a few custom levels, too. On the Plus side, the only one I saw was of the Encore and Mania palettes being swapped, but I'm sure the mods that were for base Mania work with Plus.

A better Hyrdocity-Mirage Saloon transition idea for Mania-Mode would be: Sonic & Tails get shot-out or Hydrocity by a hugh gush of water, just like what happened in Sonic 3. Sonic & Tails land in Angel Island (which would make sense because Hydrocity is next to Angel Island in Sonic 3) They then go and get the Tornado which they left in Angel Island in the Mania-Mode opening cutscene. Mirage Saloon then starts and they are on the Tornado.

When you play as Tails or at least have Tails by your side in Mania or Encore mode, when you beat Metallic Madness and you go into Titanic Monarch. Tails has a jumpscare when the lightning strikes which is a reference to the movie... "AHHHHHH! IM AFRAID OF LIGHTNING!!!!!"

The encore stage layout changes were actually quite obvious for me all the way though the game, I even enjoyed them a little more and found it easier to find the chaos rings.... though the special stages to get them is another matter, those were hard as balls! I did enjoy the character swap mechanics quite a lot, though agree that I'd prefer it be able to swap between all 5 instead of needing to use the boxes, but when it comes to accidentally hitting a box? I never had that problem, if I had a duo I wanted to keep, I had no trouble keeping them unless I lost one of them in battle against a boss or a pit!

With the Hydrocity to Mirage Saloon transition, what I think would have been pretty neat is Sonic (or whoever your playing as) walks through the passage into a room and it has the Tornado. That would have been awesome. And for Encore then the tornado lands and then everyone jumps out and proceeds through the zone.

i don't understand How people don't see How great is have all characters on your dispose all time, The Level Design on Mania is already perfect but now with Encore Mode i can fully explore everything and put Sonic(and Knuckles) in places where he once can't Go without glitches (The best example is The 2 Bosses of Lava Reef) the Encore Mode is not "underwhelming" is The best thing i didn't know i needed and now i need every game to have one Encore Mode as well
