Honestly, i think The Wall pulls it off really well. It caught me off guard the first time i heard it on Hey You, which doesn't revolve around the riff (it's a rather small section), and then on The Trial, where it plays during The Judge's part. I think the remaining 90% of the album is varied enough to forgive the repetition of the motif.

Not necessarily, it’s a great album as well. I just love Dark Side. It’s a solid album. I’m not gonna say “iTs tHe gReAtEst aLbUm eVeR mAdE” . It’s just personally my favorite album. It’s just a solid album from the artwork, to the themes, to the songs and overall structure of the album. You could say it’s not as ambitious as the albums that follow but it’s just such a solid album honestly. I seriously love it but if someone else thinks it’s a bit over rated thats fine, I can kinda see why it could be viewed as over rated when compared to some of the following albums but even if you thinks it’s a bit over rated, or not as good as the following albums, I don’t think anyone could deny that it is still a good album. If you think this album is garbage I don’t think you’ve given the album a real chance.

DSOTM has the “Wolverine problem”. If someone asks who’s your favorite X-Men character and you answer Wolverine it’s automatically discounted as being the basic answer, despite the fact that Wolverine is fucking awesome so obviously it’s a common answer. Dark Side is, by all accounts, one of the greatest works of art of the modern age. It is a phenomenal album, and so of course it’s the favorite of many which makes it seem “uncool” to like it

Dark Side of the Moon may not be their most musically complex album (as that one is definitely Animals), but it can change people's lives like no other album. You have to connect to the songs and the general theme of the album, and it may be different from the rest albums in how mystical and cosy it sounds. But once you realise the scope of its message, you absolutely fall in love with it. As a prog rock head myself, it's still my favourite album of all time, slightly above their other ones.

It's a 10/10 album as a whole but On The Run isn't exactly an ear worm lol. I get the concept of it and the album but that doesn't mean it's sonically pleasing at all. I usually just skip it

I can kinda agree with him on the aspect of it not being their best concept album or most ambitious, but it is what got them into the public eye more and that definitely makes it a favourite for many. I wouldn't say its overrated, because it is a solid album, meaning I can put any song from the album into a playlist (except for brain damage and eclipse) and it won't sound jarring or out of context like a song from The Wall.

I mostly agree. However, as a counterpoint there's something to be said about an album that can balance being challenging and ambitious with being crowd pleasing. Again, I would argue The Wall is probably still a better example of this. But DSotM is also much shorter. And more palatable.

I somewhat get why people like the album, what I don't understand is the global hype around it, when Pink Floyd have done less flawed albums in the past. (I'm even willing to admit Meddle is a superior album due to that even though I still like DSOTM more than it.) When an album has such high praise, you'd expect it to be as flawless as possible. Thankfully, Led Zeppelin IV exists.

Dark Side is the greatest album that ever was or will be. Why? It's simple, yet complex. It's thematic, yet generic. It's shallow, yet deep. It's consumable, yet decipherable. You can throw in "Money" or "Time" into a playlist, or you can spend 43 minutes of your life and enjoy the full album. Absolutely perfect. Oh, and American cheese is also the greatest cheese that ever was or will be.

Rumour has it that one time Oloff was sat next to Jar Jar Binks on a flight. Jar Jar kept kicking the chair in front of him and generally being obnoxious, nobody knew what to do. Eventually one of the flight attendants came over and asked Oloff if he would perform one of his songs to calm Jar Jar down, and when Oloff began rapping the first verse to Doing It Stealthy, Jar Jar immediately relaxed. I feel like the first tweet applies way more to the wall than dark Side. There's like one melody reprised on Dark Side whereas on the wall there is a central riff and chord progression used in about a third - half of the songs on the record. It's not my favorite but DSOTM is a great step forward for them as a band and probably the best album as a whole they made up until that point.

EXACTLY the wall literally does what he claims dark side did. Which is fine I don’t mind it, the wall is still a solid album. But in reference to what you said about dark side being a step forward, I feel like a lot of people don’t take that into account when thinking about this album. This was really the finding that sound, going from a psych pop band and losing their front man, and having to basically figure out what kind of band they would be all over again and having some albums that didn’t do so well in the mainstream. Then making what it considered to some people to be the greatest album ever made. It’s not just the album it’s self but also the history leading up to it.
