Love your videos, Tony. I ran the 200m in 23.20 my last year of high school. Thinking of picking up sprinting again here 10 years later. Training effectively a few times a week should produce some decent times

Hi coach, so at the start of the video you said Barry Ross plan fit FTC, then you show your programs with 3x5, so do your athletes do 2-3 reps or 5 reps? Thank you as always

From a distance runners perspective, I would rather see my kids running xc and then indoor/outdoor track. Unless the kid just really loves football/basketball, I think in upper high school he would probably benefit from running more. Most distance runners are pretty small and skinny so I'm not sure it would even be a good idea to play football. What do you think?

For sure. Okay sports you love (and are good at). 🏈 and 🏀 are great sports for sprinters and jumpers. Obviously XC is good for distance runners. 🙂

Do you think calisthenics is just as beneficial while doing sprints 2 times a week vs hitting weights? I’m looking at it with a boxing perspective, to not let the weights slow me down, but still want to increase speed without losing my strength

Lots of ways to get strong. Sprinting in and of itself is the most under-rated strength builder I know. Med balls, plyos, pull ups, push ups, lunges, farmer carries, and isometrics are fantastic. However, I would NOT neglect the weight room. Lift heavy but never let it interfere with speed.

I’m against year round sports specialization. I’ve heard a lot of your points on coaches’ poor conditioning/overuse/overtraining (not just football coaches), but …..do you see the dilemma? …Give up a kid to the risks of damaging conditioning?

Sorry, unless athletes need to lift for football, lifting should be minimal in-season. Why would we ever want a secondary recovery issue? Sprinting is extreme work. I could take care of in-season strength needs with nothing more than pushups, pull-ups, and med balls.
