Interview someone from KFF or the Guttmacher Institute for abortion stats and demographics...Who and why women choose abortion Secondly, have someone on that talks about how pro-life advocates would do more to decrease abortions if they voted for legislators who supported living wages, affordable healthcare, child tax credits, paid parental leave, affordable childe care etc.

I worked in Moscow for an American in the 90s who was sent over there by a US investor to buy up Russian factories from starving workers. It wasn’t just the Russian oligarchs that took advantage of the situation. Plenty of US foreigners, 20-something cowboys dressed as investment bankers, went over there and bought up all the Russian ruble-based “stock options” and then with USAID help, set up the first Russian stock exchange, so they could turn them into US dollars. I was there and saw it with my own eyes and knew some of the individuals involved.

As someone who was there when Stephanie was there, and someone who follows a lot of content like this from all of the usual talking heads, let me say that Stephanie is the best, most clear-headed, sober source on this subject. I also appreciate her wonderful balance of empathy with the average Russian (who has zero culpability) and calling it the way it was with regard to those in power. As Yeltsin was rapidly deteriorating in the end, his small circle of power brokers wanted a "patsy" they could control - thus a no-name KGB agent. But Putin was more clever than they anticipated, and took over in short order.

Russia and Italy are very close to each other in terms of nominal gross domestic product, which is the standard unit used to measure the size of a country’s economy. Nominal GDP is the total cost of all goods and services produced or sold in a country in within a certain time frame. Russia’s 2013 nominal GDP was $2.1 trillion, and Italy’s was $2.07 trillion, according to the World Bank. That’s not the only way to measure a country’s economy, of course, and this is where the two countries differ. Purchasing power parity takes nominal GDP a step further and shows the value of this level of economic activity if it took place in America. (The Economist explains it by showing how much a McDonald’s Big Mac costs around the world.) Russia’s GDP calculated for purchasing power parity was $3.5 trillion, while Italy’s was $2.1 trillion. So in 2013, Russia had a higher level of economic activity than Italy, but because goods and services are more expensive in Italy, the overall value (nominal GDP) ended up the same. Also, Italy has more wealth relative to the size of its population than Russia does. Italy’s 2013 GDP per capita (per person) was $34,619, and Russia’s was $14,612. (Politifact)
