Thanks so much for having me gents! As you can imagine with this topic, there is a lot of speculation involved. My background is as a Nutritionist registered with SENr and the British Dietetic Association, plus I am a UK Anti-Doping Educator. Hopefully some of the info covered in this video was interesting. If you have any questions at all, please just fire in a reply and I’ll get back to you. I’d also really appreciate any feedback or additional thoughts you guys have on the topic 👍 I also have a video coming out next week regarding MMA and Eating Disorders on my (very small channel) so stay tuned if you’re interested 🧠
@nahnahnahhhh2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Tom. I just wondered what you meant when you asked if anti-doping was ethical at the end of the vid?
@tomnutritionist2 жыл бұрын
@@nahnahnahhhh In the longer answer to this question I covered a few areas, it was more like a podcast! One of the primary ethical issues is Strict Liability. There are substantial pressures on the athlete due to the anti-doping principle of Strict Liability, which is described as: “you are solely responsible for any banned substance you use, attempt to use, or is found in your system, regardless of how it got there or whether there was any intention to cheat.” Supplements, medications and some foods can all have contaminants that can lead to failed tests. As you can imagine it’s incredibly difficult for an athlete to know and/or be assured that everything (they take is “safe”. There have also been issues with things like water supplies being contaminated and leading to failed anti-doping tests. Rare but can occur. So it’s not only the athletes responsibility to control what supplements, medications or foods they take. But also any coaches, family members, friends, restaurants or sponsors that may provide them with one of the above. However, under strict liability it still can be just the athletes issue to deal with. This is why education is so crucial and not just for the athlete themselves. Over here in the UK we have a big focus on education the athletes on these principles but also support staff members and family members too so it takes a bit of pressure off the athlete. There are lots of other potential ethical issues such as privacy and whereabouts monitoring, but a KZbin comments section isn’t the right format to explain them all. I’d point you towards the work of my former lecturer at Stirling University, Dr Paul Dimeo. He has a book “The Anti-Doping Crisis in Sport” that has some excellent detail in there plus he also has a few videos on KZbin that explain this point in more depth. Hope that’s useful 👍

Ronda did the smart thing to leave after losing to Nunes. The two biggest stars in women's MMA were Ronda and Miesha. Amanda ate them both for breakfast and finished them by K.O & T.K.O. respectively while making it look incredibly easy. Rousey was smart; she understood that the lioness was about to become the GOAT in women's MMA, so she got out of the way.

@juandenz2008 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I think the editor didn't really know. Steroids were widely used in bodybuilding when Arnold was competing. Based on a quick search steroids were first synthesized in the 1930s, but weren't used by athletes until the 1950s when Russian weightlifters were given testosterone for the 1954 Olympics. If you look at bodybuilders prior to the 1950s it's a fairly safe bet that they were natural.

A few points: 1. Ubereem was most certainly on more than just Testosterone, the amount of water retention he had, especially outside of camp would suggest a compound like Dianabol 2. No Brock Lesnars Physique is not achievable naturally 3. Yes Gyno is genetically dependent and can be caused by non steroidal medication - almost all of those cases happen within puberty though and as far es Testosterone being affected due to fight camps etc., that is true although exclusively in a negative fashion. Gyno develops due to excess amounts of estrogen binding to receptors in the glands under the nipple. Excess amounts of Estrogen happen when there are excess amounts of Testosterone as these two hormones are linked - lower Testosterone would lead to lower Estrogen in almost all cases. So while yes it does not prove steroid use, it does suggest it and these were not good arguments against it in my opinion
