A few viewers have brought this up, but one recently in particular made me realize a mark we hadn't quite discussed before! SO, that said, let's take a look at the good ole essilor "invented" anti-fatigue lenses! Essilor paved the way with Eyezen, the other major manufacturers jumped on board almost immediately (who wouldn't ride on those huge coattails of marketing budget?!). But do these really solve a problem, create one, or what the hell even are they?!

Since lockdown my uni lectures has all gone online. I spend maybe 4 to 6hours staring on digital screen and this has tired my eyes. I went to my optometrist who suggested eyezen lense. They took time measuring the distortion and I really appreciated that. I got crizal and transitions and I must say they made whole difference. My eyes are more comfortable and the ant glare has really helped. Thanks for the info!

I'm starting the process of getting add prism for distance and reading. They told me eye zen would be good for me since I would need about a +.75. I suffer from migraine, dizziness and balance issues I'm hoping will decrease with prism. I'm going multifocal because of the double vision both near and far has created this situation for me. I hopeful I can get off of some of my meds. That's the plan.

I wouldn’t look to the eyezen with prism even with a low add for a host of reasons…. While on paper it works, it doesn’t manage shifting the channel to accommodate for prism as well as other multifocal lenses. Asking for trouble IMO. Prism done properly can definitely help with your issues though :)

Sorry for the delay! A real progressive lens is going to do you more justice approaching the power of the eyezen 4. I would look anywhere else 😝. The new IOT Endless Plus is pretty hard to rival if you insist on sticking with the anti fatigue lenses though :)

I have strong negative prescription with astigmatism, recently got a pair of Hoya Sync III 13. So far, I am not too happy with the lenses. I feel like my clear field of view is narrower than my previous standard single vision lenses and I am noticing more blue color fringes at high contrast objects(such as ceiling lights) when I use the upper portion of my lenses. Is the normal? Will other brand (Zeiss digital smartlife) lenses be better in terms of aberration and distortion?
@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 5 ай бұрын
In this regard not necessarily. Without knowing the exact ar and material combination (often see this packaged with Hoya recharge which would cause dramatic blue color fringing around lights) it’s tough to say. As seen here I’m generally not a fan of the higher add options in these anti fatigue lenses as they create a ton of sacrifices for little benefit. At 1.12 add bump, a properly designed progressive or other mutlifocal would be a better choice handling both astigmatic off axis error and field of view much better than an anti fatigue lens. Happy to make you a set of my own lenses which pretty universally impress across the board 😎👌🏻

I have Eyezen lenses with +1.00 ADD, and am thinking of replacing them. I experience a lot of blurriness to the sides both near and at a distance (I find the latter more annoying). Meanwhile my ADD has increased to 1.25. Will «regular» progressive lenses have less blurriness to the sides than the Eyezen lenses?
@ThatGlassesGuy03

Too many variables to say, but in general eyezen is a very bottom of the barrel progressive design already which doesnt perform well as you go beyond 0.75 add, so there isn't much worse out there. 🙃

I would need a lot more info to compare those for you, not really a quick KZbin chat type of deal. There’s a reason I don’t get into preferring one brand over another in video, and it’s because each brings something to the table for a different subset of wearers. A good optician is key to any lens.

Thanks for the great video and explanation. It's unfortunate that the entire video didn't upload properly. A couple of years ago, I was prescribed an anti-fatigue lens with +0.73ADD, which I ignored and just continued on with my single vision glasses, lifting my glasses up when reading close. Last month, I was prescribed an anti-fatigue lens with a +1.25ADD. I've ordered a new pair of single vision from Zenni, while I figure out what to do with the anti-fatigue lens. You mention not to bother with a +1.25ADD anti-fatigue lens, I guess in favour of full progressive lens? Any thoughts on the Nikon Relaxsee Neo Super lens at +1.25? Should I go with the Hoya Sync or IoT Endless plus at +1 instead?
@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 Жыл бұрын
Correct on opting for a full Progressive. If you’re gonna do it the endless plus and the Hoya sync are the best out there. I haven’t had my hands on the Kodak, so maybe not the best to compare there. I’m trying out a new lens soon with a 1.00 add, will definitely be reporting on that beast after some time with it, but it’s early prototype so not quite available to the average person… yet. 😎

Why do the Zeiss SmartLife lenses also have prism?
@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 2 жыл бұрын
There's no special prism in the smartlife lenses, just the standard prism thinning practically all modern lenses use to reduce thickness at the bottom edge. Essentially it is yoked prism, and doesn't really affect things. 2 progressives in particular actually don't employ this in order to improve comfort of vision at near by not requiring the eyes to move as deep into the lens while still getting the affect of looking deeper into the lens. It's magic 😝.

@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 2 жыл бұрын
When there isn't enough add power available or the lens design doesn't work for you... in the case of the real power boost lenses like the sync they stop at ~1.12 because typically thats where you can benefit from the intermediate zone of a full progressive lens. Back in the lined bifocal days we considered it to be above a 2.00 was time to discuss trifocals, but the intermediate demands in those days for a single do it all pair weren't as high :)

You'll find that aspheric cr is pretty hard to come by these days. An atoric freeform lens is easy though, and arguably better than aspheric at reducing peripheral issues in plus power. If you get the chance I highly implore you to try either the IOT endless or the Rodenstock Impression 2 monofit. Both unbelievable lenses for true SV wearers

I was prescribed eyezen 3. I’m 42 with mild astigmatism. Vision isn’t bad but I’m noticing the strain more and more. I don’t think I have difficulty close and pushed back on progressives. These seem just as bad and right now I hate them. Should I just live with it, get regular single vision if correcting astigmatism will relieve strain, or try a different anti fatigue? No other options were presented but I’m now realizing there are others.
@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 2 жыл бұрын
Not a huge fan of the eyezen personally, the Sync (HOYA) is probably my favorite anti fatigue. I would always recommend a true GOOD progressive over "MOST" anti fatigue designs, especially approaching 1D Add power as the eyezen 3 does. The thing is, after 40 MOST people have lost some of the ability to accomodate at near. That's where these do help, but they're still largely "baby" progressives.
@jthj
@jthj 2 жыл бұрын
@@ThatGlassesGuy03 would that be better at the top? My biggest complaints are probably the distortion on the sides on the entire upper range it seems as well as the difficulty I’m having at my desk with my monitors. I have to kind of hunch forward and tilt my head. So it feels like I’m trading an improvement in eye strain for bad posture which will surely cause upper back/neck issues. It seems like the only thing they work well for is my phone. Everything else feels like a struggle to find clarity. I’m going to go talk to the optician tomorrow as they need an adjustment anyway as the right feels a little loose and they slide down if I’m looking down a lot.
@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 2 жыл бұрын
@@jthj you may find the adjustment alone will help a good bit, these can be pretty particular to fit :)... as for computer work, to optimize that you'll need another pair entirely, I have a video about that floating around here somewhere too... let's see... kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXSzYYmAjtmfobs There we go. The best way to think of progressives is a compromise to do a little of everything in one pair, and higher add powers with astigmatism and being post op only serve to complicate matters further. Of course no progressive will provide the peripheral vision a line lens will, and I still love lined lenses for a desk 😁

@@ThatGlassesGuy03 Thanks I really appreciate your feedback here and this video. After what I experienced I watched a few and most seem to just repeat the marketing talking points. Yours really did good job in helping me understand what the heck is going on here. I have one last question. Another gripe I have is even in the "good spot" these still don't seem as clear and sharp as the cheap sunglasses I got of EBD. It seems like a lack of optical clarity or aberration from my photography experience. Aside from those being single vision the other difference is the sunglasses are 1.6 vs the Eyezen's being Airwear polycarbonate. Is the material to blame?
@ThatGlassesGuy03

I'm looking for a decent pair of computer glasses for work and this video helped me a lot. Anti-Fatigue Lenses branded as a single vision lenses seems like a snake oil. I can see the argument that all the anti-fatigue lenses are basically progressive lenses, because they’re blending two focal points together. But that’s going by a very strict definition, even though most people equate progressive lenses with add power. Whereas EyeZen+1,2,3&4 all have small add power in the second focal point, EyeZen Start and EyeZen+0 have no add power, they merely use the two focal points for your normal distance prescription.
@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 3 ай бұрын
The real problem is that some of these are actual new architecture in lens design (Hoya sync) but many of the rest are just older progressive lens technology repurposed and produced in lower adds, sometimes rearranged with more focus on the near reference point. Overall it creates a rough introduction to multifocals especially as you push up to the 0.75 and above adds. Much better to use a well designed freeform progressive that optimizes all fields and gaze angles IMO. Of course, that’s a more expensive alternative.

Eyezen presents consumers with a conflicting proposition. See better up close at the expense of all other lines of sight. As a single vision user who has an astigmatism seeing well up close was a big relief. There are major trade offs such as a poor line of sight for anything else. I find my eyes are ALWAYS on a swivel with these and i have to believe there's something better out there. Would you say progressives are an option for those under an add power 1?
@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 3 ай бұрын
Absolutely… and a proper progressive affords access to better tech in lens design than the power boost lenses. Particularly as you get closer to that 0.75 and above these start to fall apart, and don’t handle oblique astigmatism well either. I’m not saying a progressive will eliminate your concerns but it would be better.
