Mishap in a porta potty - I am a U.S. Marine and was stationed out of Camp Pendleton, CA. Back in 2002 my platoon was waiting for our birds to show up at the LZ. We had been staged and waiting for far longer than we had anticipated. One of my fellow Marines, having to go to the bathroom, decided to risk it and run to the porta potty (right on the edge of the LZ) in an attempt to relieve himself before the CH53's showed up. Bad timing... As he was relieving himself, the first helicopter showed up and landed near the crapper. The downwash from the blades knocked it over, door to the ground, while my buddy was in it. We heard a yell, followed by a bunch of cuss words, and then a Smurf arm and his now blue colored rifle poked out through the crack of the door. We lifted the crapper up to get him out and both his rifle and his entire body were covered in feces, urine, and the blue liquid deodorizer... which didn't deodorize anything in his case lol.

A company that makes firing replicas of historical guns to order sounds like an interesting business idea. There's probably a lot of old guns out there that people would like to own but can't because they're really expensive and too fragile to fire often.
@TheWinjin2 ай бұрын
And the think that baffles me is the same that Brandon talks about. These guns are ancient. They are old and mass produced, which means that they MUST be simple as hell. How are they so hard to replicate and produce reliably?
@nickolaswilcox4252 ай бұрын
@@TheWinjin not always, muzzle loader sure, thats just a capped tube, but there was a lot of institutional knowledge associated with many of these things and a lot of them only became affordable to produce at scale after they had made thousands of them already. clones will have to deal with that mess AGAIN starting from nothing usually, and then theres the compatibility question, some people will look to them for replacement parts for the originals, this throws another wrench in the works since the original tooling doenst exist anymore and anyone who has repaired cars knows that aftermarket parts never fit right, this absolutely will not work for guns
@Jamoni12 ай бұрын
@@TheWinjinmachines that are mass produced are designed for that. For instance, a very intricate cover plate can be stamped out in less than a second, but to cut all those curves and notches by hand would take hours.
@electric_boogaloo4962 ай бұрын
@TheWinjin what I have learned from watching forgotten weapons is that leading into WW2 stamped receivers were still new. e.g. MP40 vs Thompson. Soviets had to figure out stamped AK all over again after the war. The methods most American manufacturers are familiar with today are extruding aluminum, machining and moulding polymer. Stamping steel is its own art form that we lost institutional and practical knowledge of.
@brigidtheirishАй бұрын
@@nickolaswilcox425 None of this makes sense. You start with an original, take it apart, maybe create models of the parts in a CAD program, but you use the original parts as a basis for making new parts. My paternal grandpa's dad was a woodworker. One of the pieces he'd made for the family that was particularly loved was a nightstand. He knew all his kids would want it after he passed because they'd all commented on wanting it for their homes as they became adults. So, he took it apart, made four identical copies of each piece by hand, and then assembled all the nightstands with pieces of the original mixed in. No one could tell which pieces were original and which were copies. My maternal grandpa was, among other things, a clockmaker. One customer came in with a clock that other shops wouldn't take because no one made parts for it anymore. Grandpa found the piece that needed to be replaced, *made the tools necessary to make the part,* and then made the replacement part. He wasn't a rich man, either. Quite the opposite. If a couple of poor craftsmen can accomplish this sort of thing *by hand,* then a fairly large company with established assembly lines and thousands to throw at a problem shouldn't have problem.

Brandon is now prepared to die he looks around at his team as they are spiraling in the air... they are unconscious a few seconds later.. *CRASH* the helicopter had landed in water and now was fully submerged knowing he had only minutes to act he swiftly got to work he started to collect his teammates and bring them to the land. over the course of 2 minutes he had grabbed 3 of his teammates........but wait he had missed one In the heat of the moment so without thinking he flipped his hair back and made an Olympic level dive into the water, he swims down to the wreck he looks around.... he doesn't see anything but all of the sudden boom! he notices his teammates body with only moments left of breath he had grabbed his teammate and brought him to land. once he had brought him back to land he was looking down at his teammate and he was not breathing..... but as he was looking down at his teammate he heard a loud *SNAP* ahead of him in the tree line. Brandon only knew it could have been enemy insurgents. and he was correct, next thing he knew there were 3 terrorists rushing towards him with bayonets on ak's. as the first one went to go stab him, he had swiftly dodged the attack and got a hold upon the now (victims) weapon. he ends the first one but there were still 2 running towards him, with quick wit he took aim to the terrorists head *BANG* *BANG* *BANG* the enemy's body sinks to the ground, he moves his weapon to the other but it was to late, see Brandon only shot twice the third was from the other insurgent, Brandon drops to his knee's the enemy knew had won so he gets close to finish him off. Brandon thinks about the great times he had had the memories start flashing before him.... he looks up.... the enemy crouches before him looks into Brandons eyes and pulls out his pistol. but Brandon was not ready to die he disarms the combatant with as much strength as he had left and finish's off the opponent. Brandon collapses days later he wakes up in the hospital and all 4 of his teammates were around him and were calling him the "AK GUY" Brandon had saved their lives that day and now they have a huge stockpile of whiteclaws. and thats only the first purple heart brandon has

You asked about port-a-loo and gun incidents. About 10 years ago at my local club range at Wodonga VIC Australia, I was competing in a 3 day IPSC shoot. One of the blokes in my squad was from out of state, shooting a CZ75 in standard, and had just emerged from a port-a-loo. His friend asked why one of his mags was missing from his belt. He inspected the dunny, saw no mag, and when offered a coat-hanger to retrieve it, said that "No mag, not even a gun is worth that". From that day on I'd always remove my belt and lock it in the car before going to the dunny.

the PSA STG thing is especially devastating. it was originally a Hill and Mac gunworks project going all the way back to like 2014, they started taking preorders ten years ago. psa bought them out and now ten years later the project is in limbo again. i heard about this project when i was in middle school. now i can legally buy liquor and it's still not out. i wonder if it'll be done by the time i get married and have kids.

Look man, Im just gonna go ahead and say it. The STG 44 is an interesting part of history and was instrumental in the development of the weapons we have today. But noone wants these things for what theyre gonna cost. You cant throw all your coffee makers and reddots and other cool guy operator shit on it. Not to mention trying to find ammo for it because they havent been able to figure out how to make it work in different calibers. Theres just not enough interest in it, and PSA made a business decision. So as much as it may disappoint you, we’re probably not going to see new production STG 44’s.

Losing stuff in the porta potty isn't the end of the world. I was talking to the porta potty cleaning guy at Laconia bike week, and he said he fished out a bunch of phones from the girls' side..... so, just call the company that cleans them. They can help you out. And if they know they are up against a loaded handgun, it might be safer to let them know, even if you report it stolen too.

The major issue in “copying” the design is getting it as accurate as possible while staying in compliance with ATF so it’s not labeled a Machine Gun, making it suitable for different cartridges without major retooling for each cartridge, and a third possible issue is does SS-D and GSG have any patents on semi designs that they have to navigate around since both are also making semiautomatic clones of the STG.
