I live in Kentucky in the hood and everyone knows exactly how I feel about Russia. I even joke to my family that my mom told me on her death bed my real dad is a Russian named Sergei Kalashnikov who was the nephew of the inventer of the gun. More seriously I would always put Putin's speeches, press conferences, interviews, etc on when my husband's friends are over, and I have really been able to enlighten them. I caught Putin's Munich Speech in 2007 by accident and after that I followed Russia closely. I have been much more immune to Anti-Russian propaganda bc of it. I am out of time but if anyone is interested in my argument of why I don't believe Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva really had a dirty drug test I will get back to you. Sorry, Sam, that really sucks. I haven't lost any mates over Russia specifically, although near the beginning of the SMO, on my birthday, after having a really nice morning with my brother on a hill we always used to visit as kids, it came up in passing that I understood why the SMO had to be launched and had been keeping track, somewhat vaguely, of what had been happening over the years that led to it. My bother began to shout at me. It wasn't an argument, it was a loud lecture to do with what a nob I've always been when it comes to toeing the line. It was awful! So awful, in fact, that I quietly at first, and then a little louder, and finally at shouting volume asked him to let me out of his car so I could rather walk home than fight, it having been my birthday and all. I lost my best mate in high school, a really lovely young woman by the name of Yael, by naively expressing sympathy for the Palestinian people in conversation with her. Thing is, it had been about a year since we'd last hung out, and although I knew she was Israeli and that her dad was a veteran of the Six-Day War, I'd never pegged her as the type of person who'd hate an entire group of marginalised people for ideological reasons. On the contrary, I thought: Jew - grandparents who survived the Holocaust - no stranger to stereotyping or marginalisation - we might as well be comparing our favourite show tunes. But no, alas, that was the last time Yael and I ever shared a patch of lawn together. On the upside, and there IS ALWAYS an upside somewhere, if one looks for it, over the last three years, I've found it increasingly easy to discuss Russia in polite conversation. As a matter of fact, I've actually found running into people with a fairly well-grounded opinions on Russia politically and culturally in general to be increasingly common, but I am South African, and we are the "S" in BRICS, and BRICS has already done some pretty magnanimous things for us from an economical point of view, so there is that. Do I think even half of the people I've had these conversations with are even aware of BRICS activity in this country and across Africa in general? Nope, I doubt it, but it has to be considered. Things are changing, Sam. I hope you and your mate are able to make up sooner than later. Somebody's going to have to swallow a little pride, but the ability to swallow one's pride is a bit like the ability to swallow swords - it's a rare talent that amazes as many people as it grosses out, and it takes practice and dedication to learn how to pull it off. Then again - and this is something else I've noticed about the whole Western narrative regarding things - Western politic and journalism today is all about storytelling. Facts seem to mean less and less to more and more people all the time. Consider that "telephone conversation between Trump and Putin" just after the indisputable election results were announced. That story was first published, if I'm not mistaken, by "The Washington Post", a well-respected American news outlet. I think the "New York Post" published a confirmation of that story shortly afterwards. And now, we all know that "The Washington Post" made the whole thing up. In a just world, somebody, or a group of people, would be going to jail for that, but no. I think someone might have gotten a wrist-spanking. Maybe someone was suspended. The fact that the news has been fabricated by a mainstream news outlet never even really became news! My point, although I admit that I'm coming at it a little bit side-on, is that in the Western world, everything is about the narrative. Now, the news cycle is drowning in aliens, P Diddy's diddling and as for the remainder of our Western narrative, we're getting a whole lot of Syria, specifically focused on Putin's loss of political control in the region through Assad who's been made out to be some kind of Russian stooge. But even that's backfiring! The very rebels who've ousted Assad are showing support for Putin and by proxy, for Russia! And that's not a bad thing, politically speaking. A president is supposed to stand as a representative of his or her country, and that is EXACTLY what Putin does for Russia, and THAT is why, in my opinion, (and I'm sorry to say it, but I'm really nobody important and what I think has very little bearing on anything at all,) in time, the Western world as a whole, as unlikely as it seems now, will have to come 'round to an understanding of their place in a geopolitical narrative in which Russia is actually one of the good guys, It's gonna take a whole lot of aliens and other silly tabloid-type headlines, as well as a whole lot of deflection and clever geopolitical engineering, but the narrative we all depend on to save ourselves ever having to admit fault or error will simply have to slowly mutate into one in which Russia is no longer NATO's sole reason for existing. Once that's happened, if that can happen (and I think it can, or something like it will,) you and your mate will be having a pint somewhere and talking about football. Hell, man, maybe you and your mate will be having that pint and talking about football in your home town. Eff me, mate. I'm sorry! I seem to have written you a bit of an essay. I suppose I can relate to you a little better than I perhaps let on. Still loving your channel, Sam. Thanks for all the navel contemplation you've helped me to avoid. I look forward to more of it.

Hi Sam I have a similar thing. Longish story. My whole family have had a dentist for nearly 20 yrs, seeing him 4 x a yr for checkups and polishes often having long conversations with him on many different topics. He is half German and has lived in German (with a Nazi father no less). My dad (deceased) was especially friendly with him. Anyway, a few times more recently the dentist had been saying some weird comments. Eventually it was clear he harboured a lot of anti-Russian racism and even apologism for Nazism. This was a red line to me. I am half Russian with family from Kiev. So I will be reporting him to the dental regulator in England. I am sad because someone held such unsavoury views.

im in a whatsapp group with a load of mates that i played poker with and its mostly the same in there. They have fallen for every bit of nonsense the BBC has put out. And when things don't come to pass they just seem to move on. Like the "running out of munitions" narrative of 2 years ago.

When my Russian wife came to live in the UK with me I feared she would receive some sort of backlash from uninformed people making uneducated comments but I have been pleasantly surprised. Generally the UK public are intelligent enough NOT to believe the main stream media . In fact the media here are being called out more and more and are at risk of being totally irrelevant as they spout their propaganda . Yes that happens in Russia too of course . It's sad though that your friend hasn't got intelligence to actually look at things with two eyes and not half blinded by following MSM Keep up the fantastic work Sam , both I and my wife look forward to meeting you one day in Russia ,although we generally stay in the south of the country when we are there .

A smile, raised cheeks and crinkled eyes signifying contentment and positive emotions, it's a visual cue that someone is feeling joyful or pleased, that’s all I could see on people’s faces in your video, but unfortunately those addicted to BBC and the like cant see that due to their addiction. I can’t say Russia is the most democratic country on the planet but also and definitely is not the country ruled by a despotic tyrant abusing his absolute power in an unfair or cruel way caring little for the welfare of his own people, those happy faces in your video are proof of that. BTW, I really like those decorations, thanks for sharing Sam.

Hello Sam, I am a big fan of your channel. I am from Canada, but lived in Manchester UK for a while, and now I'm in Novosibirsk. I too am disappointed with the Man U result, and have friends in the UK lecturing me about how foolish I was to move to Russia. We have a bit in common I'd say. I just move on and know that for every friend I lose in the UK and Canada, I will gain new ones here in Siberia. This also sounds similar to what is going on in the USA after their presidential election, and some people are cutting out others if they voted for Trump. Look at the 4B movement of women in the US for example.

Pfff, a friend...!

Regarding your friend who no longer speaks to you, it brings to mind a verse in a famous song by Simon and Garfunkel, the Boxer - "All lies and jest Still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest". This is the mentality the entire western world has about Russia - they believe the lies because they want to believe them.

What is "Russian-style friendship"? I have a friend in Russia whom I met in 2000 (although we lived in neighboring apartment buildings for several years before that). Then he built a house in a village outside the city, and so successfully that he also seemed like my mother-in-law's neighbor (we were separated by a fence). He is like a brother to me, we used to go fishing and hunting together, celebrate holidays with our families, and he would come to my bathhouse. Since 2017, I have been living on the other side of the city and we rarely communicate anymore, but I know for sure that if either he or I have any problem, we will both immediately rush to each other's aid. Is such a friendship possible, for example, in the States? 🤔😁

I have had the same Best Friend since i was 13, im 45 now; she and i do not always agree, we have even gone seasons of not speaking because we dont necessarily agree with the path the other has chosen; the funny and cool thing is, we dont ever completely stop communicating entirely, we will check in with one another via family and leave gifts for one another 😂 If someone is truly your Friend that connection can not be broken.

Are you familiar with Edgar Cayce the sleeping clairvoyant? Over sixty years ago he said " from Russia comes the hope of the world not now but in the future". Over the years I've probably read most everything about his remarkable life but when I read that statement I thought, can't be he is off on that one. This was back in the 80s. No internet back then. I was brainwashed by US bullshit. Well he was definitely on to something.
