RIP Marcello Gandini, legendary designer of the Lamborghini Miura. He's driving this car to heaven right now...
@andyelliott8027
@andyelliott8027 2 ай бұрын
The hands you see on the steering wheel are not those of the actor Raf Vallone who you see with the cigarette and sunglasses they are the hands of Lamborghini's test driver Enzo Moruzzi who did nearly all the driving in the opening sequence. Raf Vallone just did enough driving to get the required camera shots of him.

What a great memory. I was only a toddler when this film came out at the cinema but i remember watching this on tv in the 70s for the first time and i was just transfixed on this film, especially this opening theme. Just watching this today brings back a very long distance memory of when i first saw it.

The Fast and the Furious is a 1955 movie from director Rodger Corman. And none of these remakes (including the Italian Job) can hold a candle to the originals. That because in this era of dead creativity all they can do is mine the past for their "Ideas" rather than come up with new concepts and story lines. Western culture is dead and running on yesterdays momentum.

If you like this you may be interested to know that iain Tyrrell of Tyrrell's classic cars (video on youtube) found the actual Lamborghini Miura featured in this movie, restored it into pristine condition, recorded the song in a friend's recording studio and drove it on the same road 50 years after this opening scene was shot, The video of this quite unique event is on youtube if anyone cares to look for it

I am a big Iain Tyrell fan, great Sunday afternoon watching. This was a customers car that they ‘borrowed’ before delivery, disconnected the Speedo so it wouldn’t show the miles they did. You can see that in this sequence.

I saw this intro on TV as a little kid back around '75 or so when this movie was on one night. Then my mom said it was bedtime. I remember trying to put it all together in my head for days afterward. Beautiful car, beautiful scenery, nice music, then suddenly, shockingly fiery explosion. Why did they kill him. I never forgot it. It wasn't until the VCR rental era that I was able to see the whole movie.

I saw it at the cinema when it came out in 1969: I would have been 10 years old at the time, and it was, believe it or not, the "B" feature to "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang", which we'd actually gone to see (Perhaps the idea behind this double-billing was that they both had "car" themes?). I had similar impressions about it, and the Mafia in their black suits really "creeped me out"...

I recreated this, blasting the music after seeing this movie as a kid. Didn’t do it in a Miura but in my VW Passat buzzing along the Great St Bernard Pass in the Italian Alps, murder with no power steering lol. Just beautiful I could do this listening to Matt driving through there with full volume on. My missus thought I was mental, the kids asked me to turn it down as it was embarrassing them lol

What makes this s classic is the way all the elements pay off the casting ,humour 1960s stylish cinematography music and the thrill of the over ambitious small time criminals getting more than they bargained for ...just brilliant and even after all these years. It moves the story with a cheekiness in the performances and slick pace and iconic stunts

I can remember years ago when I was offered a second hand Alfa Romeo, that Matt Monro jumped into my head as an earworm. Some classic motors in this movie, but none more so than the mini's and that scene that is close to the heart of all Coventrians cos it was filmed in our sewer. To drive a Lambo or a Ferrari in the alps, must be almost like driving a Morgan through the Malverns :)

The Mrs. and I got married in Italy, there was one point on The Honeymoon that She was filming Me on a video while in a busy town. I automatically started talking to the camera with instructions to Charlie.....so ingrained is this film into all of us 😁😁😁

Amazing "POV" when POV was never heard of! I was ducking and diving....no...I duck and dive, every time I watch this sequence. I feel the curves. Beautifully done.

I usually skip the opening credits when I watch old films, but these I had to watch twice because they were so good. It's no wonder that newer films moved the credits to the end of the film. They just don't know how to make them as good as this anymore.

Iconic, timeless film. I feel priviledged that I was born (in 1966) before it came out. And yes, massive sacrifices were made to what I see as the most beautiful object on four wheels that humankind has ever produced. Big, big budgets in those days I guess!
