I've been to Antigua. Beautiful island. It IS pronounced AN-TEE-GA by locals and everyone else. The "u" is silent. Why does Mum have to argue about everything?

antigua means "ancient" or "old" in spanish. in 1493 christopher columbus named the island santa maría de la antigua after a church in sevilla, spain. in spanish it is pronounced "antigwa." the english later took over the island and as usual - bastardized the name. that today's inhabitants still mispronounce it doesn't make it correct, silly!

You really have to be careful with those streets so many wholes. I was at that church last year & they did not charge to visit. The charge must be new but I noticed even in Italy they want to charge to go in some churches.

i was reading about that church. they are trying to restore it. perhaps that,s why they charge an entrance fee. mum was having none of that.🤬 that lady was not very christian telling you off.
