Hypertension is another name for high blood pressure. It can lead to severe complications and increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, and death. Blood pressure is the force exerted by the blood against the walls of the blood vessels. The pressure depends on the work being done by the heart and the resistance of the blood vessels.
(1) Primary (essential) hypertension- For most adults, there's no identifiable cause of high blood pressure. This type of high blood pressure, called primary (essential) hypertension, tends to develop gradually over many years.
(2) Secondary hypertension
Some people have high blood pressure caused by an underlying condition. This type of high blood pressure, called secondary hypertension, tends to appear suddenly and cause higher blood pressure than does primary hypertension. Various conditions and medications can lead to secondary hypertension, including:
(1) Obstructive sleep apnea
(2) Kidney problems
(3) Adrenal gland tumours
(4) Thyroid problems
(5) Certain defects you're born with (congenital) in blood vessels
(6) Certain medications, such as birth control pills, cold remedies, decongestants, over-the-counter pain relievers and some prescription drugs
(7) Illegal drugs, such as cocaine and amphetamines

Sir please tell if non selective blocker is used then action of adrenaline will increase in alpha1 receptor of blood vessels causing vasoconstriction, so how can we say that decrease in heart rate causes decrease in blood pressure because the corresponding vasoconstriction will increase blood pressure. Kindly reply, I am very confused.

Hello sir I have a doubt As you said blood pressure decreases with the decrease in cardiac output and peripheral resistance. Agree on that But in lippincott specially 2nd point in beta blocker topic for propranolol which is non selective beta blocker, “ it says - it cause peripheral vasoconstriction “ which means bp will increase but beta blocker decrease the bp” so why it cause peripheral vasoconstriction So i am confused in that mechanism Can u please explain Thank u

As i have explained in videos (May be in other part of HT) that there are 2 types of beta blocker - selective and Non selective. In case of non selective its action may be diff. And as per the consequence of compensantory mech. It may try to adjust the pressure of blood which has been reducd by Beta 2 blocker.
