Our family has a similar clock that my great grandfather bought. He was a streetcar operator and he eyed it and stepped off the streetcar to purchase. My mother has it now and dad used to wind it it every eight days. (I love the sound( I’ve heard it my whole life) It doesn’t work currently and dad passed three years ago, so it sits silent 😢

Scott you are awesome. Me, my brother and my sister, now all in our 60s, were first introduced by our mom, to antiquing as kids. I love how you go into the history, the lifestyle of the persons who first owned these items back in the day, your incredible knowledge of the manufacturers, the restorations you do, and you've taught me so much about wonderful antique glass items that really opened my eyes to a facet of antiques that I never really knew much about. A whole new world of collecting. You ROCK! Thank you.

Fun fun thrift trip! Thanks for taking us along!!! I just love how you stop and show us things on the shelves even if you don’t buy them. I wish I had courage enough to drive on I 95 or any highway. I am missing out on some awesome shops . Stay cool and hydrated 🌞. Ridley Park Pennsylvania was stifling today. I am sure it was difficult to leave the Jersey shore😢! Happy thrifting Scott.

That song at the end poking fun at Jersey was so amusing! It reminded me of when I was a kid in the 70s and my parents watched All in the Family and the way they pronounced Jersey on that show was funny to me, well most of the way they talked was funny to my Southern ears, talking about the "ter-let" and hearing "verses" 😂. But as to Jersey, there was an episode where Archie and Edith went on their second honeymoon trip to "'lantic City" as Edith called it and Archie is dissing everything about the place the whole time. Or when Mike and Gloria were looking to move out and were looking at houses in Jersey and Archie says, "Nobody wants to be in Jersey". I guess ya'll are used to New Yorkers looking down on you in Jersey!

I have got a clock like the one you talked about. It was my grandparents. They lived very near to Edmonton Alberta Canada 🇨🇦. They were poor folk, farmers. They married in 1925, their only child was born in 1926, and my grandfather died in 1927. My grandmother never fully got over the loss of her husband.😢

About the quick “no” on the lampshade: good possibility that the proprietor had been asked that several times before- that was a fantastic lampshade - and depending on where you came from in the building, he knew. But man, that would have been hard for me to pass up - quality! And your clocks - holy cow! Not only a deal, they were gorgeous. Our hone was built in 1892 and it still had all the original knobs and door hardware, and flooring - oak on the main and stair threads but it was switched to pine on the upstairs.
@oldcuriosityshop2656 ай бұрын
Actually, I think the proprietor didn’t want to be bothered. He wasn’t paying me any attention at all and really had no clue where I was in the building. The lamp was positioned in an area in which he couldn’t see and they were actually several lamps in different booths with mixed matched lampshades. I wasn’t annoyed, but honestly, he was a bit dismissive. No worries 😀

I think you need that green clothesline. Nothing like air dried linens. Those branch/lichen lamps would look amazing with christmas lights (you could change out the bulb colors w/ season); If I got, I would be tempted to gild the dark leaf/vine on them. Let me know if that music box turns on in the middle of the night..

That kitchen clock is great, Scott. I think that with a good cleaning and oiling and maybe some adjustments, it would run. Even the alarm bell was trying to ring. But, you forgot to show us the other one! I will have to keep watching your videos to see it, I guess. Always fun shopping with you, thanks for the trip.

I love old mechanical clocks. I try to open them up when they are overwound. As long as the main spring isn’t broken. I try and clean it especially the pivot points and put a dab of synthetic clock oil on those points. I guess old oil gets sticky. I’ve revived a few miniature cuckoo clocks.
