Actually people says my room also is like museum. My family says that,but I don't think it's that much old. I have decorations(paintings,mirrors,dolls) and old antique chairs,but my wardrobe and table is modern(I bought them both about 10 years ago).;)

It's a shame you don't live in the UK. I have an addiction to buying furniture and you can get vintage furniture for really low prices here, cheaper than flat pack Ikea. I once got a 1950s dressing table for £12 ($15). Everyone wants the latest modern style so when their grandparents pass away or go into residential care they give the beautiful old furniture to charity. I get to have gorgeous 1930s sideboards for next to nothing and all the money paid goes to help doctors cure fatal diseases. Retro, thrifty and warm fuzzy feelings. It's amazing.

Minimalism is kinda overated. In times like these, it helps to be more of a maximalist and you can sell some stuff if you need to...to buy food or pay a bill. Minimalist gave it all away for the maximalists to keep and collect.

Only once in my life did I try the minimalist approach and boy did that gloriously fail! 😂 If anything, it solidified my sentimental attachment to all my wonderful collected items. Oh and stashed supplies like beads and buttons have been organized thanks to that undertaking! 😂 The only sad thing is that I discarded some things that I miss to this day. 😕

Not totally related but it made me think. Today we were going through old family photos and I found a family portrait of my family from the Edwardian era. (So like my great great great great grandparents and aunts and uncles). Then, there was this one woman named Alice, I have no idea how she is related to me but no matter. In the Edwardian photo, she looks about eight or nine. Then, I found about three or four images of her from the 1920s 1930s and 1940s. It was really cool because I suppose I kind of got to see the transformation of her grow up.

Antiquing is the best! I have been after one of those lanterns for ages but they always seem to be priced at $70 or higher here, so I think you got a super great deal. The Chablis wine (of your tray) is super delicious, and I don't even like white wine normally. I was just in that region last year visiting some family friends and we drove around to taste the Chablis. It's sorta pronounced shab-lee. Very tasty stuff, but pricey to get the real French ones here in the States!

I’ve had a couple of glass kerosene lanterns for years and they still work. What I really want though and can’t afford when I find a good one, is an old butter churn that still works well. I love homemade butter.

Well welcome to the group since I was 15 my grandmother always told me I had an old soul because of the fact that I loved antiques even then and younger for that matter as I got a little older I learned that if you work with the right antique shops they will allow you to put things on layaway it may take a little while to pay it off but they are very kind and they're willing to work with you so you don't always have to buy knick knacks sometimes when you add up all the knick knacks you could have bought something big and beautiful keep that in mind and I'm so glad to hear that you're finally buying the house that is awesome congratulations God be with you

Just saw this vid for the first time and was amazed how much we have in common. I love finding the same things in antique shops or auctions and have vintage photos in my home as well. I find them comforting. These people were loved by someone at one time and then these precious mementos were tossed aside. Bravo!

So happy you are able to buy the house. Now you can really go to town on it and I can't wait for a house tour! Our house (in UK) was built in 1902 and is in a conservation area. You have to compromise, can't replace the sash windows so no double glazing and it's freezing in winter but amazing original features. One of the best compliments we received was from my son's friend when he was just a teenager. He said to my son "your mum's house is like a museum".

I love antiques! I love the Art Deco period, my husband loves Atomic Age 50s. Furniture, kitchen stuff, cases and trunks, glassware etc. We use most of them too, not dust collectors. Just bought a trunk for a Hufflepuff project. I’m 50 and have been drawn to old stuff since I was a kid.😁

I think it might work VERY well with your hair now that it is a bit longer. My hair is past my waist at the moment. (Just remember they are usually more decorative than structural).

The lantern should still work. My father collected coal oil lanterns, and we used them reasonably often, especially when there was a power outage. Though I get why you wouldn't feel inclined to mess with it makes sense.

I loved watching you showing your haul! The lantern was awesome! My daughter’s co-Ed wedding shower was in our backyard and we used my father’s collection of lanterns as part of the centerpieces. She wanted a Lord of the Rings/Hobbit feel, so we did greenery down the 10 eight-foot tables and put fairy lights and mercury glass tea lights along the greenery. In the middle were two decent sized hard back books, painted gold and sitting one on top of the other - the slightly smaller one on top and at an angle. THEN the lantern was put on top of the books and we had fairy lights inside of the lanterns. It was an unusual and gorgeous table setting, especially once the sun went down! Oh dear, I went down a big long rabbit trail there... but I do love old lanterns!

We have several Dietz lanterns we actively use for camping and as backups in power outages. Your lantern will probably work with very little effort. You can find replacement parts online including wicks, even Amazon has some. Good deal on that, too. Our last one, which has a red globe for use on the caboose of a train, set me back $45. Love your channel...I ran across you via Bernadette Banner. I’ve always been a granny deep down, too. Only now I’m nearly old enough to be one IRL!
