God bless Wayland. He truly brought Madame to life. I loved her potty mouth. That's what made her so friggin funny. Wayland truly had a gift with her and puppeteering in general.

Wayland was TRULY a genius with this character. Used too watch him and Madame all the time on Solid Gold.

God I miss being a kid. I can remember seeing madame on TV sitting in my parents basement or at my mom mom’s house. I was 10 when Wayland flowers passed away. What a talent he was.

I got to see Waylon Flowers and Madame live in Toronto at a department store called Hudson's Bay (at Yonge and Bloor). If my memory serves it was the early 80s and they were there to promote promote cosmetics or a perfume.

Wayland Flowers was so good with Madame and the way he maneuvered her extremities; you would think that she was a real person.

Where's the compilation and PBS POV on Wayland Flowers? Someone who was a Trail Blazer, no pun intended, in American Culture. Way Before RuPaul honey, Madame was ruling the airwaves with her wit and sharp humour. Oh what we'd give to have that Ol'Girl around now to let us know, what's what and who's who in the what.

I never remember Madame not having arms and hands,...I think this one must have it's limbs removed at sometime before he received it. Wayland used those arms and hands nonstop when he performed her, so I can't even imagine her without them!
@slimdude2011 Жыл бұрын
This is definitely not the original puppet because the original Madame that Wayland Flowers has performed with was buried with him. It was one of his last wishes that he requested to his surviving family members to do before he died. Wayland Flowers had made duplicate puppets of Madame and had a variety of other puppets that he performed with as well, but Madame was the star. The original Madame is with him because Wayland and Madame were one.

I concur. This Madame was simply missing her hands. This could be because her hands and rods might have been salvaged for another Madame.
@SHANNONANDROD Жыл бұрын
This particular Madame still has her arms, her hands and rods are the only thing missing. When this one was auctioned off, the auctioneer featured detailed photos of her and she clearly had arms.

at 1:11 the guy on the left says he is 88. He was born on November 26, 1939 and On October 11, 1988, Flowers died at Hughes House of complications from AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma at the age of 48 a little over a month before his 49th birthday. :'(
