I saw Spearhead in Seattle in 1999, during the WTO direct action. The city was under martial law, so their show was canceled. My friend Perry was working sound at the Pioneer, so he invited them down to play there instead of the Showbox, a totally illegal and awesome move. The whole band had puffy faces and bruises from getting maced, pepper sprayed, and hit with rubber bullets all day, just like all of us in the crowd. Krist Novoselic was in that crowd too, maybe 50 people tops in the house. I waited until all the girls had gotten their hugs after the show and handed Michael a big fat joint from some herb I had grown in Montana, where I was living at the time. He blazed that puppy up and ripped it down like it owed him money!! One of the greatest nights of my life. Michael is a legend, I can't fathom how he isn't more appreciated outside of the US and Auz.
