This song means so much to me. 7 years from when I first listened to it, it has now new meanings. But it still makes me express something that my words can't even try to describe. Thanks.

I think this is my favourite on the album. It's all amazing but the last two songs sent me into trance first time.

I imagine the gracious Benevolent ritual of Death Grave and porcelain With baby blue lips and pale pink eyes Descending toward me Her glowing hands cradled at my head And knees submerging me into waves of icy seas I imagine the end Then further downward so that I can rest Cocooned by the heat of the ocean floor In the dark, my flesh to disintegrate into consumption for the earth

I think the lyrics are almost as important as the music itself for a band like this, but you can like it without the lyrics.

Lyrical content is pretty important, but not always necessary to enjoy the song. Definitely necessary if you wish to fully appreciate it.

Yeah it almost spoils it for me the bits that i can understand or think i can; i adore this song but the bit where he sounds like he's talking about drying on a washing board just kills it a little bit. I hope writing this doesn't make anyone else hear it!

Plus I write to Deafheaven and I usually can only write to instrumentals. I prefer use of the voice as instrument in black metal. I used to read cradles lyrics and find them amazing now I'm glad I've forgotten them cos the sense of the song sometimes gets lost in the meaning.

I agree think they are doing a fantastic job, the lyrics are well written, drums well executed, guitar innovative, backed by strong bass foundation.

Nothing is truly original. In fact, anyone who claims that their work is an original, should really start doubting their mental health, because practically everything in this world, not just art, is a reproduction or remix of something that has been released//done before. Deafheaven made the music world take notice that BM doesn’t have to be long-haired metalheads in corpse paint in order to be black metal and I am grateful for that. Fortunately now there are tons of incredible BM bands coming out that are shamelessly breaking away from the traditional ways, paving the way for this new generation of BM. It’s really quite wonderful.

brutalism I don’t hear all of that. I just hear “blackgaze”. Everyone is always so set on placing bands + music into very specific categories, and then judging the band based on this opinion...but for me, Deafheaven is a new wave of black metal. Blackgaze, okay, yeah if you wanna call it that, but I prefer nu-black metal

Love this album....so far I have only listened it through this KZbin video, but I plan on buying the vinyl. My only gripe is that some of the songs end with fade-outs...don't like it, and it's somewhat rare choice how to end songs on music like this. It gives you a feeling that the composers didn't really know how to build a ending. Is it only in this video or is the album actually like that? It's not a deal-breaker, as I said, I love the album anyway, just curious...
