"Dream House" sounded a lot like the rest of the album save for the interludes. Sunbather was just a very pretty shimmery shoegaze with some metal influences. I read an article that said they were doing away with a lot of the shoegaze.. So I'm a little worried but still this is my most anticipated album this year.

This is a greatly mixed track..I know thats not something usually said in the comments often enough. I disagree, I feel the track isn’t mixed very well. There isn’t much distinction between everything and some of the instruments are much quieter than others. That said, they could want it to be this way so mixing is always subjective and maybe it fits the songs better like this. But I definitely feel like the drums in particular are weak sounding and lack a lot of “oomph”.

Deafheaven are pushing what it takes to define what black metal is, it's experimental, shoegaze post-rock heavy and it has vocals influenced by black metal and screamo bands alike. They make pulsating atmospheres with their music a lot like traditional black metal and it's amazing. If you don't like it, that's good but don't go around playing the white knight in the metal community denouncing them for mornonic reasons or logic. You're not cool for hating on something else other people enjoy, if you can't back the hate don't fucking shit on the atmosphere.
