You know, this always made me think of the main discontinuity between English Dracula and Spanish Dracula. Lugosi needed a stronger Mina in English Dracula, and "Eva" needed a stronger Dracula in the Spanish film. Lupita Tovar was absolutely gorgeous, while Helen Chandler was just ... there. And that in a nutshell is probably why neither are the Dracula films WE needed.

Always preferred her performance than the Dracula actress counterpart because she gave a more sensual dynamic of that character. I wish someone could splice both movies together and just get the best performances and best shots - sort of like a “Frankenstein” reconstruction 😂 She lived to be 106 years old. That’s awesome! Great video spotlight on Lupita Tovar, Antonia!

This was a great video. I always wondered about her and wondered if she had a career outside of “Spanish Dracula” which an old coworker introduced me to years ago. He knew I was a Universal classic horror fan and he admitted “It’s better than the English one.” He left it to me and 😊he was right. It was hard admitting that since Tod Browning was burn in our hometown, but hey, sometimes you gotta be truthful. Lol. And while I like Helen Chandler, Lupita seems to give the role more vibrancy and passion, so I’ve tended to lean more towards her performance anyway. Her life story is so fascinating from the poor Mexican girl to helping Jews before WWII - it all sounds incredible. So thank you once again for sharing your knowledge with all we movie buffs. It’s greatly appreciated. ❤

What bothers me about the Spanish Dracula is Carlos. He’s so over the top. Mugging for the camera just turns a potentially interesting alternative version of Lugosi into someone who might fit into an Abbott and Costello Meets film. Sorry, just my opinion

What a life. A good reminder how important antifascist praxis is for all of us. You just can't miss with this series, Antonia! 10/10 fricheks
