Also his intelligence, articulateness and exquisite answers are fabulous. His English is phenomenal and very unique sounding. One of the most talented actors I have ever seen, love his mischievous little giggle and smile when Tom Hanks is mentioned. Banderas couldn’t speak English in 1992 when he did Mambo Kings. A year later he’s talking like a pro. I don’t think Almodóvar was his teacher

He must have had some intense private lessons along with hard study. Learning English is not a joke.

He indeed did confirm that he did take intensive English lessons during that time in an interview that he did for Pain and Glory nearly 30 years later.

That said, however, if you watch an English language interview with him, Almodovar does actually speak some surprisingly good English, albeit with a somewhat heavier accent compared to Antonio.
