This was a lot of people's introduction to Antonio Banderas. I had no idea who this actor was as he ran into the hospital. All I know is that I thought he was gorgeous. His performance in this film is excellent. Wonderfully understated. I've followed his career through the years. He continues to give extraordinary performances.

I've never been a fan of Tom Hanks, as an actor or in terms of looks. But this movie is on a different level completely. His acting is superb, and he's quite attractive. Even in his sicker scenes, his eyes are amazing. I was 13 when I saw it for the first time at the cinema, and I cried my heart out the whole way home and cried myself to sleep. Now, 31 years later, it still makes me cry the same way 😭😭❤️

The great thing about this movie is how whenever a stranger is in a room with Andy it always focuses on what he's touching or if he maybe coughs everyone watches etc. But whenever he's with people he knows he's holding a baby or people are kissing him like it's no big deal. This movie did so much to help remove AIDS stigmatisms it's ridiculous. It's basically a movie about AIDS and the plot of Andy losing his job is secondary.

@Sonny, Your comments remind me my friend Sammy who had AIDS and died in 1993. The last I went to see him I asked if I could bring my kids (5 and 1) along and Sammy was delighted. I found out later that weak though he was Sammy demanded to be taken to Wal-Mart to buy little stuffed animals to give to my kids. During our visit, my daughter needed a diaper changed. Sammy shyly asked if he could do it and I said sure. I'll never forget how he showed me his hands so I could there were no open sores, reassuring me without words that there was no danger. I knew that, but so many didn't at that time. Afterwards I sat my daughter on his lap and my son stood by Danny's shoulder and leaned against him. Sammy cried when we left. He died just 2 weeks later. The world is full of unkindness and misunderstanding. We have to spread love around more. Namaste.

I loved that they casted Antonio Banderas as the boyfriend in this movie. Antonio was a heart throb back in the 90's and to have him play as the gay boyfriend to Andy who was dying from AIDs was such a great move by the casting crew. It helped normalize homosexuality by having someone as good looking as Antonio play in this role. Most people back in the 90's had a stereotype on what a gay man "should" look like and Antonio was not someone that came to mind back then. Great movie all around, and I still cry every time I watch it.

Why is getting a colonoscopy so shocking to them? It seems like standard procedure despite being a difficult procedure. My guess is that they are both worried that his condition is getting more serious?
@VeracityLH4 күн бұрын
I think it's because the doctor jumped the gun before the bloodwork had even come back. Colonoscopy isn't a primary test unless you have a history of lower GI issues. There may also be some subtext here. Guy with AIDS comes in with diarrhea - must be a bottom - colonoscopy.

What are all the initials i am puzzled about when Andy was actually diagnosed with either H I V THEN AIDS

HIV is the virus causing the disease symptoms. AIDS is a syndrome resulting from infection with HIV. It's 'Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome,' when HIV (the virus) has disabled your immune system. Look it up.

The character of Andy was based on two real lawyers who lived and worked in New York and Philadelphia respectively. One died in 1987 and one in 1990. This means that almost certainly they were diagnosed late by today’s standards. The guy from New York was more like the movie Andy. He also had Kaposi sarcoma. The first antiviral drug was FDA approved in 1987, and of course it took time before it was widely available.
@kaykwak99552 жыл бұрын

@ThePlaton204 күн бұрын
The doctor was rude but he was right. Kaposi Sarcoma causes hemorrhagic lesions in the colon, if that goes undiagnosed and untreated it can cause life threatening GI bleed. Even if the blood tests are "relatively" normal (in real life nobody with HIV has "normal" labs) the colonoscopy needed to be done, and it needed to be done urgently.
