I AM ATHLETE | Season 3: Episode 16
Brandon Marshall, Jared Odrick and Nick “Swaggy P” Young connect with former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio “AB” Brown in episode 16 of I Am Athlete. AB is currently at the center of the conversation after he was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for taking his jersey off and running off the field mid-game vs the New York Jets at Met Life Stadium. Brandon and Jared travel across the country from Miami to L.A. to sit down with AB in efforts to find out if AB’s actions were reactionary or responsive. #AntonioBrown #MentalHealth #TomBrady
Antonio sits down with the I Am Athlete crew in a Kumbaya session to answer questions surrounding the week 17, 3rd quarter incident vs the Jets. AB walks the crew through what led up to the moment on the sideline where he made the decision to strip off his shoulder pads, shirt and gloves and throw them into the crowd before running into the locker room as he flashed a peace sign. AB emphasizes that coach Bruce Arians tried to get him to play while he was injured, and that Arians then told him to get the F--- out after brown pleaded with him that he couldn’t play.
Brandon shares how he would have handled the situation with head coach Bruce Arians and then asks Antonio if he thinks he could have handled his situation in differently. AB explains that he doesn’t regret the way that he handled the moment at MetLife Stadium and explains that there isn’t anything wrong with his mental health and that he refuses to compromise his integrity. AB brings mental health into the center of the discussion after he questions how do NFL players maintain their mental health while still protecting and keeping their integrity?
Moving the conversation along, AB reveals that his relationship with Tom Brady is still intact and that he believes Brady is a great leader and that he is one of the best in NFL. Brandon asks AB what quarterbacks he thinks is next in line behind Brady. AB responds that he believes Lamar Jackson is the next greatest NFL quarterback and that everyone needs to give him his flowers now.
Wrapping things up, the group decides to give out “flowers” to those that have made an impact in their lives or others. Brandon, Jared and Swaggy end the episode by sharing that the I Am Athlete family is rooting for him and wishes him the best.

He's not being authentic when he says that. He ran off the field because the way he was being treated that day made him feel worthless. He was literally running away from the feeling. He's very affected by others opinions of him. Not to mention it was compounded by a year of feeling unwanted by everyone on the team. If you listen carefully to him you will see the cracks in his ego. AB feels a lot...his problem is he can't own those feelings so he runs away instead.

Muhammed Ali once said "The price of freedom is high" what he was referring to was the act or acts of expressing your integrity in ways that free you to be who you are, will sometimes cost you. And that cost will be huge. AB chose to express himself as opposed to be silent or compromising his pride. He was willing to pay the high price of expressing his freedom therefore he went to the next level instead of acquiescing to others behavior. Of course, he was emotional in the moment but he seems to be willing to pay the high price of being free to express himself freely. Bravo

Brandon hasn't learned yet that you can't convince others of your point of view. Great interview! AB is unique. When you from Florida you stand out. He shared his side. Bucs coach said his side. Fans of the sport are gonna have there opinions. But AB said it best. “Anyone at a job where the boss says to you get the fuck out of here, that’s what I did!” Professionalism out the door! I felt that, gotta respect it. When you at a job and you don’t feel appreciated how do you act??
@wiseguy2312

Professionalism should always be there because you have to worry about future employers especially when it’s on film. Made himself look unstable when he already has a history that goes back to college. Imagine a job that’s thinking about hiring you having video of taking of your shirt, knocking over your desk, kicking over the water cooler on your way out of your last job. AB is half and half he’s right then he’s also wrong because he has a history of having conflicts with coaches and some players and should’ve known this is his last chance in the NFL unless a team calls his jack besides that B Marshall has made several good points in this interview i understand every statement he made because like he said no matter what happens a player has a guaranteed contract to abide by and keep their integrity so they can get paid by the end of the year but on top of that AB made a viable point that if a player voiced their feelings about their own physical well being and the coach don’t like it and thinking your making excuses after you already shown texts and X-rays that an injury is building up in your ankle and your knees and then tell you you’re done get tf out of here then therefore the coach is wrong for not showing no consideration and he can’t talk to players like that.

A lot of people dont get it. AB walking away from the Football field in "that manner" did cost him some opportunities. But what ya'll dont realize is it also opened a lot of opportunities. This is what AB is saying. Throughout his career, everyone was telling him to change who he is, and whatever. But his decisions led to Tom Brady personally wanting to team up with him to win the SB. You guys are programmed to think a certain way, but nothing in life is promised. Imagine if he did what everyone else wanted him to do and never got the results that he got after. He's turning into a pop culture icon. I dont even watch football like that, but I pay attention to AB's moves because he's ona different kind of timing. I dont gotta overexplain what I'm saying, if ykyk

Huge missed opportunity to hold him accountable for his end of unprofessionalism. I got no issues with AB expressing his transgressions & it's actually great to hear someone stand up for themselves in the realm of integrity. However, they dropped the ball in getting AB to understand the consequences for his actions not only this latest incident... but everything over the course of the last 3 years. There has to come a point where someone tells him to his face just how wild he's been moving since 2018. I think this interview could have gone better if Brandon would just let AB talk, explain what happened, what was his mindset at the time and why he did what he did. Give him all the room to express himself instead of trying so hard to tell him how Brandon would have handled it or how it could have been handled differently. Maybe near the end ask him if it played out the way he wanted and if not, what will he be doing moving forward. Then maybe discussion the corporate game and strategy vs the players and various ways to mesh the two together for a win win of knowing when to end it. Coming off the top trying to tell him another way to handle it is not working.

In both podcast interviews he’s done since the incident he’s either been defensive or not interested in directly addressing anything, a lot of deflection from the point at hand In this one it looked like he didn’t want to speak at all How do you come on a podcast and look like your being forced to speak, questions asked with 1 word answers knowing they want you to expand.

@@KDubb-ws9zc B Marshall during the height of his career was just as erratic as this brother and although it's no fault of his own as football is a team game, AB has reached heights in the league that Brandon unfortunately didn't get a chance to achieve during his career. I'm not saying it's right, but it's hard to listen to someone who didn't achieve all of the individual and team success that you had. AB broke it down tremendously. He disregarded the 30 Mil because he wanted to be a champion and play on a contender. That's a move that B Marsh probably wouldn't necessarily make because he has chased the bag throughout his entire career and to this day, is still chasing the bag.

Brandon is a control freak number one! Number two, he has the opportunity to allow AB to explain to the world what happened and why he did what he did. But he won't let him without giving how he would have reacted. Its not about you homie! To have that same Coach recently get fined $50k for slapping a player gives sooo much context to AB's story, but you're to focused on trying to be an OG rather than allow more light onto the situation. Give AB the floor, not spend argumentative time in an attempt to correct the man that doesn't need correcting. I love what he's saying! Too many of us black men are afraid to express ourselves when we're being wronged because we're worried about others reactions. "Controlled," as AB stated. I love that! 'F' being controlled! All Brandon needed to say was, "You know what, as a man, you got the right to show your discuss in any situation however you deem it necessary!" He didn't kill nobody or harm anyone when he did what he did. He already knows people are going to judge him. Fuck it! Man don't want me here, I'll excuse myself out the door. He told him during the game. Who has control? Brandon, the Coach should have been the one to maintain his composure. Based off recent events, it's obvious he can't do it himself. Finally, number three, AB alright with me!

This would have been an entirely different conversation with that cast of people. Missed opportunity imo.
