Some weeks ago you said that maybe you can put a webcam in one of the colonies. Maybe you can stream this black dragons, for science purposes.
@justjoking52527 жыл бұрын
Oliver de la Rosa that is a very good idea.
@cecilbowman13367 жыл бұрын
Oliver de la Rosa this is such a cool idea! he could have a few small webcams set up in different corners of the terrarium! my only concerns would be 1) that the invading pharaoh ants could potentially disturb the footage or use the cameras to somehow get into the tank and 2) if the cameras were wireless it would make it more of a hassle for him to upkeep, and if they werent, it could also potentially help the invading pharaoh ants to either get into the polyrhachis setup or destroy whatever computer he used to keep the stream running by traveling along the wires! this could potentially be remedied by him putting a barrier of baby powder solution just above where the cameras are set, so the ants fall into the water and get eaten by the fish before they can disturb the cameras (and also keeping any wires away from the walls) but thats not foolproof, because if the pharaoh ants slip far enough above the water they could potentially flail around and push themselves far enough away from the wall to land on the rocks and completely bypass the water barrier! (wow this is a long comment im sorry lol)
@justjoking52527 жыл бұрын
Nic Smith. That makes sense.

The cameras can be outside the terrarium, in the same way he records normally

@TamTroll7 жыл бұрын
i just made an island in my sandbox, filled the sandbox with water, then placed a bunch of ants from a colony in my back yard onto the island, watching them scurry around as the water rose and the sand-island slowly crumbled. I'd sometimes bring survivors home to the colony. "survival training" i called it ;P
@creaturesoul44697 жыл бұрын
When I was a little kid I was apparently a f*cking sadist because I used rip ant’s antennae off and watch them scurry around in panic before killing them. I regretted it way before I discovered this channel, but looking at these ants always makes me feel guilty again. I guess I’m lucky that they weren’t dangerous ants though, I used to and still do pick up pretty much any ant I see to let them crawl around my hands. I really do love ants. It’s weird, when I was younger I used to step on ants and squish spiders and bat moths, but now I love ants, try to relocate any spiders near my house (even though I’m still arachnophobic), and I’ve saved a few moths from the ocean before. I have limits though, mosquitoes have no sympathy from me, and I’d probably let my dad destroy a wasp nest near our house.

The skull would be the most likely candidate as it is a hard shell so that the ants don't need to build as much as they would have on the leaves. I have a feeling it will be okay for a while now with the current setup

Oh, good point! Let's hope so! Thanks for watching! Ant love forever!
@SIG4427 жыл бұрын
For the yellow crazy ants, you really need to do something before they manage to find a smart way to escape. Way to many in there to keep them happy. Also, if you would place too many people in the same cramped space, you would quickly see irritation and fights happening. It may be less for ants, but i fear with this number of ants and the small space they are in it may as well happen. Cannibalism may be around the near future for this tank.

I hate how people are like "this is stupid why add suspense and act like you don't know where the fog came from when you did know" and I'm just like "looks like someone has never seen the magic school bus." this kind of storytelling and mimicked surprise adds a little spice to the videos. instead of just being all boring like "yo hey dudes uh... like ants Canada here I so those ants we got they moved into the skull and uh I installed this cool humidifier in the tank here so that's cool Uhm I got some facts about these tree ants *insert factoids here* alright that's it for this video please like and subscribe seeya" he's trying to make them interesting as well as informative and people are ripping on him for that? This platform makes no sense.
@RubixB0y7 жыл бұрын
It's like 15% recapping previous episodes, 20% storytelling for kids, 5% hyping up future parts of the episode, 45% fun facts and research contributions, 5% new interactions with the ants and 10% hyping up the next episode, . It's clear the content is fluffed up to the max and aimed toward a young audience. So, for the older demographics that videos on Trending attract, they are really only getting value out of the 45% of facts/contributions and new news with the ants. The rest of fluff and the playing dumb that comes along with scripting a overly-detailed, first-person narration to hit the ten minute mark comes across disingenuous and really it's just a turn-off. I'm not implying he should change for the older audience that just want to learn about ants and not tell ambling stories, but that doesn't mean people can't voice their opinion on the videos. Personally, I watch the videos on 2x speed and skip forward with the right arrow key when I can tell it's getting fluffy. I really like the content, just... ya know... about half of it.

It's not about adding spice that's the issue, it's the fact that he purposely put something to add effect. There is nothing wrong with dramatizing an occurrence that happens with the various animals that he keeps; however, this is the first time that he deliberately did something but then feigned ignorance. Yes, this is not an uncommon trick, but for a channel that has been thus far honest with the drama by hyping ACTUAL slightly mysterious occurrences, it is pretty cheap to create one yourself. It's fine if you don't think this is a big deal, but it's unfair to discount others who feel differently about this tactic. For them it feels dishonest and like reality TV.

Hey man I love the channel, been subbed for over a year. But this video felt kinda disrespectful with the entirely fabricated cliffhanger. You could have kept this video about the science and it would have been great, that part was really interesting. I'm sure the drive to keep such a frequent upload schedule must be crazy, but try not to give in to stuff like that. Your genuine passion and love for the subject are what keep people coming back, not the ants, and not the drama.

For the Golden Empire's population problem, try introducing some more predators! I got a smol list *Orchid mantis:* Same benefits as the other one; but they stay smaller (Could feed on ants their whole life, I think!) Add a male and female so they can breed; they won't overpopulate, as their cannibalistic nature keeps their own population in check, as well as the ants likely eating many of the young. They also stand out much more among the foliage, so you won't loose them, but they just look like flowers to the ants! *Jumping spider:* They make little cobwebs, and can jump out of danger as their name suggests. They are pretty small and would no doubt eat the ants if given the chance. Put in a few, but probably no females, as they may breed too much and fill the setup with webs. *Oogpister Beetles:* These beetles eat ants; they simply go into ant territory and eat them. They flick off ants that try to bite it. If these don't help by themselves, then there's always turning down the temperature to reduce egg-laying rate and the rate at which workers expend energy. Hope this helps, so you don't have to take other measures! Ant love forever! (Like & reply to this comment so he can see it!)

It's interesting that a species of weaver ant would chose to move into a resin aquarium decoration. I wonder if they occasionally use other homes in the wild and it just has not been recorded yet.

I wouldn't call it clickbait, just being overly dramatic. In the last video, he intentionally made it sound like the ants could be dead, especially with what happened with that other colony. :P

I just recently stumbled across your channel, and before I started watching some of your videos I honestly didn’t even give a second thought about ants. But now I come to appreciate them so much more and really marvel in the way they live and behave. Your channel is so relaxing and tranquil, and I really like how you are constantly involving your “ac family” in the commentary. It’s like you’re not just talking into a microphone but talking to US and with us. You have a knack for creating a very calm inducing experience while watching your videos and I have to remind myself that half these videos are actually about insects. Amazing work. Truly beautiful

Guys, even though the mist was a bit clickbaity, it helped drive away the pharoah ants! Be thankful for mist that guards and protects The Black Dragons.

This isn’t a good thing! The ants have WAY too much humidity, and that has resulted in them moving into a place with no moisture. With the addition of the fog, this whole idea just spells trouble.
@jimothyj26387 жыл бұрын
Yeah but it’s also affecting the Black Dragons
@givemeshrubs42957 жыл бұрын
technically it was the pharaoh ants vs the fog that he named the "dragon's breath". sooo... no clickbait! techically.
@ArtisChronicles7 жыл бұрын
I'm not thankful to it, it's just there to provide extra humidity to the dry skull. It's a solution to a potential problem.
@YourFriendCan7 жыл бұрын
The content is still just as good. Maybe even better, but the presentation is starting to get very 'click-bait'-y. 'What happens next will shock you!' 'Wait until next week to find out the answer to this crazy mystery!' 'What could this crazy fog that's killing the ants be!? Just kidding, they moved and I put in a fogger' The content is already really good. You don't need to use fake drama to try to get people to watch.
@joelkoonce61967 жыл бұрын
Laughing Can 86 He never said he didn't do it. All he said was "Uh oh what's this? Tune in next time to find out." Have you ever watched any TV show or movie that ends in a cliffhanger or subverts what you expected. Yes his content is good by just showing the ants but he is not doing anything that normal writers and filmmakers do.
@YourFriendCan7 жыл бұрын
I'm not saying it's anything other people don't also do, I'm just saying I'd enjoy the content more without it
@joelkoonce61967 жыл бұрын
Laughing Can 86 but everyone is being so critical of his style at the moment. I understand everyone feels connected to the channel because of the way he includes the "family" in everything he does but in the end he is an artist who can evolve and try new methods of writing, filming, and editing. Do you have a problem with him not being exactly like he was in the beginning? If you like his content you should support his growth as a creator and that means even when it isn't exactly like you would have it. I'm sure he will be doing something different in the next six months. We can't all start criticizing Everytime he does something new.

@joelkoonce61967 жыл бұрын
Patrick L you must not have much experience with suspense writing or subversion. It might seem like lying to you but it's the same a show going "Tune in next week to find out what happened on the next exciting episode of Dragon Ball Z!" Did the writers lie because they made it seem like Goku would get beat and didn't reveal their secrets until the next episode? You must not enjoy much TV or movies if you think this is considered lying.

That's not what I'm saying at all. Obviously there's bad writing in shows and films. Look at Lost. I'm just saying that there's a formula to it; a certain a approach to pull it off that many film and show writes know very well. This is clearly his first time and it clearly backfired big time. I watched this and was already imagining the comments. I am in no way condemning him. I just think he got a little carried away and it didn't land very well for his audience.
