Could we possibly perform both strategies to route out the invasive ants? It might be too much effort and if that is the case then buy all means I think we should perform the more eco-friendly version until it is clear that more drastic measures have to be taken for the safety and preservation of Antopia.

I think letting nature do the invasive ant killing is dangerous but killing the invasive ants are outright cruel. So help nature a bit and support the native ants with foods etc. I hope you will do the best thing that isnt cruel

I would do a mix strategy. Feed the natives to support them. But also pour some boiling water in the ghost ants and fire ants nest not to fully kill them but just to even it out because it will kill some this way it wont make the native ants a bigger target of the invasive ants. Ps what are you going to do with the terminites. It would be great if you got a new nest of termited honstely plus you dont want lose termites in your yard damaging your new house(incase you will have wood used in your house)

Here is some tactical advice on your plans to help native ants. These are based on real world strategies modified to your ethics and the current conditions. Don't oversupply native ants!!!! If invasive ants find the food you leave for native ants it could draw feeding frenzies of hungry invasive ants, especially for colonies that move a lot like ghost ants. This could force native ants into a war or even cause a minor defeat before native ants retreat. That doesn't mean you shouldn't help but you need to be careful. Place a little bit of jelly at a time. A teaspoon instead of a whole cup every day. Then smash it to increase surface area so native ants can eat it faster. This prevents the likelihood of invasive ants finding the jelly. One of the advantage to captive ant farming is that the cup makes the jelly last longer. For meat place the food near the entrances precut like normal. Just try to get closer to the colony. You can also reverse this by tricking invasive ant colonies into attacking each other this way. Leave a little trail of sweets between two invasive colonies. They will fight and be to busy to bother with native ants. Though there is a risk if one col ony of invasive ants severely benefiting. You can do this to interrupt a invasive colony attacking a native colony with a flanking attack by a separate invasive colony. Non-lethal ant riot gear!!! Keep a vinegar/water balloon ready. If you see invasive ants attacking native ants you can drop drop the vinegar bomb on the attacking invasive ants just behind where they are attacking. This will wreck their reinforcements in the near future and many that grab food from native ants and their young will not be able to find their way home easily. This is the equivalent of taking out ant communication lines and cutting them off. Without reinforcements the attacking ants will loose out overall and provide fresh meat to replace native troops. Make sure to keep the balloons prefilled and readied. Use water balloons won't corrode from the vinegar. Make sure to dilute the vinegar bomb so that it gets rid of scent trails but does not hurt the ants. This can also make a great addition to a video even if it's a one off showing how it won't work. The vinegar bomb is also useful if a group of invasive ants find a big haul. Take the frog for instance. A vinegar bomb would confuse the ants letting you remove a food source from them more safely. Though this might prompt attacks on native ant colonies out of hunger.

I know he doesnt like killing ants, but fireants are pretty dangerous for everyone, some intervention might be necessary to tip the scales if you can find the main anthill to make sure there is a precision strike on not only the fireants, but the other primary hills that threaten the locals. because it is likely that the invasive ants may win the long game. as for how. chemical warfare is out of the question thanks to the local ecosystems and molten aluminum is to dangerous as well. Boiling water on the core nests could help. it would force the native ants to retreat and regroup if continuously done to any center of activity you find forming until you get the queens and failing that, could keep them on their toes so the local ants can push back. other than the aggressive approach. supporting the locals with food and introducing more locals into the fray will help keep the fight going. but might result in over predation if you are not carful. this is a tightrope we are walking on here and the local ants will still attack one another to. but I figure you know how to place the locals to make sure they attack the invasive ants more. the best course of action is likely a mix of all these plans. suppressing the invasive ants with boiling water and damaging nests to keep them on the defensive while empowering the locals with food and troops to keep the war machine running on overdrive.

You are absolutely correct. They are one of the most dangerous ants in America and have been for years. I've seen then attack lizards, snakes, birds, and even climb on our cattle. They can leave painful bites on cattle and can make them stop producing milk because it stresses them out. Our fear is that a calf is born and gets swarmed so make a strong effort to kill off any fire ant colonies quickly. Liquid lead or aluminum seems to be the fastest and safest way for us.

Full grown chickens are likely to eat the fire ants that attack them, but if you plan on raising chicks they would be in danger from the fire ants. We lost all 15 chicks a few years ago because a swarm of fire ants thought they were a tasty snack. It was just a few days after they started sleeping in the adult chicken coop instead of the nursery.

Its kinda the eternal debate when it comes to biodiversity, and ethically there isn't a right answer. Invasive species are often a problem due to the rapidity of their arrival in an area due to human intervention but this sort of expansion isn't entirely unnatural -- many areas become populated by life due to unlikely dispersion such as seeds blown in the wind or arriving via driftwood or as a prey item for a mobile predator's progeny. The fact that an 'invasive' species can out-compete a local rival is, at its core, the fundamental process of evolution and is a natural phenomenon and thus amoral. That said, there is a difference between natural dispersion and human intervention as one is, well, natural, and the other is either a callous disregard or conscious action by an agent, and thus has a moral component. The damage that invasive species can do to an entire ecosystem should not be overlooked, especially in a time of mass extinction (and yes, that mass extinction is anthropogenic in nature). The major concern is to keep any further intervention strictly beneficial to the local ecosystem, and that is worded very precisely. Focusing on singular species does not lead to beneficial action -- this is how you end up mushrooming the problem by the classic example of 'importing cats to deal with the rats' and then having the cats be an equal or worse issue in the future. By using a holistic approach and considering the ecosystem beyond which *ants* are going to come out ahead due to your intervention, you are more likely to come to a more beneficial decision. A reduction to *some* native species is not an entirely terrible outcome overall if it means the local ecosystem is able to maintain biodiversity. This also means that there are likely to be some invasives that do not require intervention and others that do. It is well known that fire ants deplete local populations of many other fauna, and you have evidence that native predators such as the frogs are less able to deal with this new species. There is enough information to know that fire ants are an especially problematic kind of invasive species and what the likely results of their continued expansion will be: decimation of local competitors and, eventually, agricultural issues. The latter is as important a consideration as the former, as farmers generally *dont care* about species that are harmful to their crops, and, as they are running a business, often go for a cheaper solution over a more expensive, selective solution... meaning the methods farmers use to ward off fire ants most likely will also be harmful to native ant species. Of your two suggested actions, elimination of the Fire Ants is the better course of action. This is because it is within your power AND YOUR PASSION, to specifically target the problem nests, where another individual would not be so selective. You know the threat that the Fire Ants present and are uniquely positioned to control their local numbers in an ethical way. The problem with feeding native nests is that it doesn't have the same control as destroying invasive nests. You cannot know how that extra energy might be used -- its is entirely possible, and maybe even probable, that the native nests would expand into the territory of other native species as they are more able to combat local rivals than the invaders. There is also the potential danger that comes with feeding any wild population: overpopulation creating an imbalance in the local ecosystem. I would like to think you are knowledgeable enough to know when to stop, but these sorts of issues invariably arise from someone too confident in their abilities to monitor and adjust the situation. Feeding native nests *could* result in further damage to your local environment. I understand that you care about ants. I understand that you take no joy in the thought of extinguishing a nest of fire ants. That doesn't change the fact that it is the best available choice. It is essentially the Trolly Problem: you are killing millions (of ants) to save billions (of ants, and potentially other species as well). You action and your inaction both have moral repercussions that are unsavory, in such cases the lesser of two evils is the correct choice.

True, natural dispersion does cause natural extinction of species over time. The difference is that humans have greatly increased the prevalence of extinction due to invasive species over a short period of time. Support TEAM NATIVE ANTS!!! Do not kill the invasive ants, as they are now a part of Antopia's ecosystem (kinda). The more species, the better, right?

Please tell AC NOT to let go of the BOBBLEHEADS!!! :( They are part of the 'Original' Antiverse, and he has let go too many of the 'Original inhabitANTS' last year!

I don’t know if you will see this as I’m late but you REALLY need to pour boiling water into the colony as they really do not mess about I can’t stress this enough

I understand his ethical hangups on it, but this is a bit like the "trolley problem" in terms of ethics, except instead of 1 worker and 5 workers, it's invasive ant colonies vs literally every native colony. If you let fire ants and other invasives go wild they WILL 100% eliminate the local populations.
