WLWT 5 in Cincinnati (38:55) handled the transition the best. Previous to the shutdown, WLWT ran a 25-minute video of their history. The announcer for WLWT's signoff came out of retirement to bid everyone good night for the last time on analog. For the night light program, they are the only station I am aware of that did their own version. You can see it at the end of the clip. A couple of days later they started playing the NAB night light program.

Yeah, these are definetly some of the best ones in the US. Elsehwere, I also like the Channel 7 ones in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, the S4C Wales one (note: the S4C one is not in English) and the BBC One sign off in Wales and the BBC One and BBC Two sign offs in Northern Ireland.

July 24, 2011 was an important day in Japanese television history in that television stations across the country ceased broadcasting on their analog signals. What was unique about this was that every television station had to transmit an information screen between noon and midnight on that day on the analog signal. The transmitters shut off at midnight that day. The switchover in Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima was delayed because of the three prefectures suffering severe damage in the Tohoku earthquake in March 2011 and digital switchover would take place on March 31, 2012 in these areas.

I remember that day well. The original date for the analog TV shutoff had been set for February - but they changed their minds and changed it to June. I knew that this meant that the transition was going to be right smack into the Sporadic-E season (Sporadic-E is an phenomenon in which VHF radio waves may be reflected back to Earth, about 1000 miles afield). My local station WJBK (Channel 2) was already getting interference from other Channel 2 stations as early as 8:00! I also noted that WRC-TV (Washington) was also being interfered with. BTW: The old blonded-cabinet TV with the WGTE sign-off is mine.

This year in June marks 14 years of the analog signal in the United States being turned off permanently. June 12th was for high power channels. Low power channels had random dates when their analog signals went off the air. If anyone knows exact dates of all the lower power channels, such as FOX 62 in Youngstown, it would be neat to see a full list of them all.

KCPQ and KIRO and KSTW were my favorite TV Channels to watch TV. I used to watch Washington's Most Wanted with David Rose and I used to watch the News, Judge Judy and NFL Games on KIRO and I used to watch People's Court on KSTW. It sucks that there Analog TV Signal is gone forever. I just wish I could go back to the day before the Analog TV Signal was gone forever and relive my favorite shows one more time before the end of an era. The death of analog was basically the end of a revolutionary era of old technology/the first plants of the industrial revolution and in the end, how fleeting some of even the more historic inventions in general can get (especially if it's from tech). I was born FAR past the golden age of analog (born in 2003 and was in the suburbs at the time but grew up to a more rural neighborhood after the great recession) and don't really remember watching it but seeing how impactful it was for a huge outreach for other cultures to be exposed to a bigger Audience, it's unbelievable how much the TV has gotten even with cable not being as popular as it was even a decade ago. Same thing with radio with how the phone basically killed the popularity of it to a lesser extent even with apps like Radio Garden carrying the legacy of it going to a new generation of people wanting to know how their parents used to watch/hear new material at the time (with it being an aesthetic to some) even with all the hurdles of them.

I also wonder when the Transmitter and Repeater stations had to go DTV. Repeater and Transmitter stations broadcast on low power and a weaker frequency and take up less broadcasting frequency space. That’s why cellular companies were much less interested in the near future for those less stable UHF bandwidths during the forced mandatory FCC Repack deal that was finalized in the Autumn of 2008 and the subsequent national DTV switchover of early 2009.
