Norepinephrine is an American term. Epinephrine is a word used in the states instead of adrenaline. Similarly, in the UK we call norepinephrine noradrenaline, it is a key neurotransmitter in the sympathetic nervous system. The sympathetic nervous system is just a way of summarising/grouping the neurones in the body which exert the effects of stress which you discussed. So for instance norepinephrine, or noradrenaline, is released from neurones which travel to the heart, which causes its pacemaker to fire faster. Arousal in this context might not be sexual; it can also mean the level of stress/alertness experienced. I am a 3rd year medical student hope this helps.

Anxiety is so hard, especially when you consider it can be a trait of a neurodivergency such as ASD or ADHD because the usual tips and tricks don't work. Anxiety has absolutely screwed with my life but it's nice to hear it be spoken about properly xx

Fun fact from my doctor! (writing this early on so assuming it’s not covered) but the reason as to why you get nervous shits/are sick when anxious - as you were wondering! - goes back to fight or flight and fear response when humans were living in the wild, the body would need to ‘release’ anything inside them that might hinder your ability to be in a prime state to run from a danger or a predator! :)

The best advice I've seen about anxiety that's literally changed my entire life is 'Do it scared'. Anxious about doing something new? Do it scared. What stopped me overcoming anxiety for so long is the idea that you need to stop being anxious to do things, you don't! Usually, you can't !! The most ridiculous thing about anxiety is that you need to do scary things to make it better (almost paradoxical). Ever since I've just started doing things scared I've achieved so much and gotten over so many little fears and anxieties that I honestly feel like a completely different person !!

I do this as well, when i feel anxious about things i take it as a sign to go for it. Even if it turns out to be something i did not enjoy. But earlier this year I got diagnosed with autism as well as an anxiety to the point where I have the worst anxiety and panic attacks over anything, talking to people in a shop, leaving the house etc. Music is something that’s helped me so much! One of my favourite artists is Declan McKenna and if I feel like I’m about to have a panic attack I will just play his whole discography cause it’s something I’m familiar with and something I find comfort with! As well as these podcasts help me relax and unwind and make me feel less anxious. Thank you for these podcasts. 🤍 I’m editing while I’m watching: I did cheerleading for 13 years of my life, I would compete in front of loads of people and have the time of my life! Ever since I quit my anxiety gets worse over anything like I said leaving the house which makes me so anxious. I recently joined a gym and started off small such as swimming and after I feel so much better once I’m back home, cause I feel refreshed and excercised!

For a feature podcast mentioning anxiety I would recommend you delve into the history of anxiety in women. You mentioned London doctor using orgasms to relieve women’s anxiety but we’ve struggled for many disorders to be recognised in women (eg autism ADHD). Usually it being labelled as ‘hysteria’ due to lots misogyny of the time. Though these women the London doctor preformed on were consenting the doctor was vastly more educated and took that as an excuse to take advantage of these women. Regardless, I throughly enjoyed this episode as a sufferer of anxiety it’s so lovely to hear public figures especially men talk about these issues in such respectful ways. xx

i study dietetics and in recent years the relation between diet and many different conditions and diseases has been found. Vitamin D deficiency can often lead to low mood which is why some people may experience seasonal depression (the main source of vitamins D is from UV rays from sunlight however many cereals and foods are now fortified with it). Overall the food we eat can impact our lives so much more than most people realise, however, you should enjoy all food and never restrict your eating but instead be more conscious of what you put in your body!

As a psychology student the hypocratic humour is a topic that we studied in almost every subject, not because its true but for being the first reference that psychologist can go back to. And to me is such an interesting topic because is comparable to zodiac signs, every person falls into a type of humour: melancholic for black byle (because mela means dark like in melatonine), choleric for yellow byle, flematic for flem and sanguine for blood. And when someone presented somo kind of mental suffering they would drain the humour that was causing the illness. And a current vestige of the humours is the personality type A, wich is proven to be predisposed to have heart attacks

6:01 personally, I suffer from anxiety disorder and it mostly shows with physical symptoms. The biggest one is the swallowing, making it so hard to eat because of the costant feeling of choking. Follows up sleep apnea, where my nose completely closes up and along all breathing channels. It feels like a full body shut down and like you could die right there, every night. As you guys have mentioned, it's hard because if at first it started with some triggers (which i was however unable to clearly identify), it has now become a daily basis issue that makes everyday life burdensome. I unfortunately got it checked too late so now theres no go back...if anyone is feeling more anxious than ever, def see a professional!

Studying mental health in college has learnt me to understand that anxiety is normally the base plate for more complex and confusing conditions like ocd and eupd. Anxiety can be hormonal, genetic but you normally develop it from being around people who suffer it like a cat developing ur personality. When not treated anxiety is commonly the cause for developing a range of mental conditions When you are young you soak up information like a wet sponge so normally it is developed very young.
