Timber Hawkeye, best selling author of Buddhist Boot Camp, prescribes gratitude as medicine for people to heal themselves from the inside out. His message invites the best version of you to resurface, inevitably leading to the true meaning of success (being happy), and better health (mental, physical, emotional and spiritual). In an ongoing effort to eradicate society's ever-growing sense of entitlement, which he considers nothing short of an epidemic, and replace it with a sense of appreciation for each breath we are given, Timber's intention is to awaken, enlighten, enrich and inspire, by sharing mindfulness-enhancing techniques that anyone can relate to and implement in their daily lives. If you find value in my work, please show your support with as little as $1/month through / buddhistbootcamp or make one-off contributions on Venmo @TimberHawkeye or through Jemi, where you can also schedule a private one-on-one Zoom to discuss the topic of your choice: jemi.app/buddhistbootcamp - Thank you for being a Soldier of Peace in the Army of Love.

I used to have panic attacks, I would find that due to a road accident and an old car with mechanical problems that my anxiety levels would soar when I drove. I used to take that moment when the traffic lights were red, or the traffic slowed to a crawl to do a quick body check for tension, recognise that my shoulders and neck were feeling tense and relax, to take a deep calming breath in and slowly release my breath while I was doing this. For me that worked really well. (also helped when husband recognised the problems with the gear linkages and got the car fixed)

Timber, My first experience with panic attacks happened many years ago. When I went to the doctor thinking I had a serious heart problem (palpitations are one of my symptoms), he helped me to see exactly what you are recommending. Once I recognized the (really scary) symptoms as arising from the anxiety, I was able to take some of the power away from them and that began the calming down. I am relearning to do one thing at a time, and I am going to refocus on that moving forward! I value your insights and support! Namaste!

I think practicing doesn't eliminate these emotions altogether, but it has helped make me very aware, and better understand them, like you said. I found myself getting angry on the way home from work today, because of something another driver did. I took a second to catch my anger, and realize I had no control over the other drivers actions, only how I chose to respond. I kept breathing, and just moved on.

I listened to this video maybe about two yrs ago just because would listen to anything from Timber. But today, I needed it. I went through an experince where i knew I had to stop supportimg someone coz I will loose myself. But someone close to that person begged that i stay some more coz it was the darkest moment. After regaining some strenght for two days i went back for 9 more days and true enough, I lost it. It has been a month since then but I can feel that all of the peace gathered from meditation in past years were gone. I had to restart. Best lesson learned, help yourself first.

I agree 100%. I named Anxiety Angel for some many reasons if you think about it. Anger is Big Angel on steroids. I will definatly make this a moment by moment awareness. Thanks you! I love the message!

I read something similar a few years ago and it said to observe the demons ie anxiety, anger and depression and just acknowledge them and tell them your watching them. soon after you will be able to talk to them as such and tell them to go away. well, it took practice, but I see those "demons" rising up and now I can totally control them like they are naughty beings out to run amuck. I have tried to explain to others how to do this but they look at me like I'm crazy, but you have explained it so well that people will be able to do it. Thank you. It truly does work. I lived a life full of fear, depression, anxiety and now I can finally control it and be free :-)

I have PTSD. When symptoms of this specific anxiety takes on, I take myself closer to nature. Go on walkabouts near the beach or the Arroyo. I observe the ducks and the geese in the water or the seals at the seal sanctuary participating in "Seal yoga". Or feeling the warmth of sunset kissing the day to sleep. To remind myself to breathe in the good, exhale the ugly toxicity of PTSD symptoms. Prior years back, I did CBT ( cognitive behavioral therapy) where your brain is being retrained if a trigger should emerge. And I'm concurrently are on a super low dose of an SSRI prescribed by my doctor. I'm a student in psychology and loved learning about Mindfulness briefly. I'm new at practicing Mindfulness in regards to my specific anxiety but, I love it. I believe that the more life saving tools given in regards to anxiety, depression, and etc, the better. Xo Amz

This video reminds me a great deal of cognitive behavioral therapy. There's a work book called "mind over Mood," which I actually completed. I needed a refresher though, and this video was it, thank you! Meditation, Yoga,and Buddhism have helped me live with mental illness in a way that medication can't and therapy falls short of. Namaste.

Thank you Timber. I suffer from depression, and have been told by professionals I may require medication. One of the most difficult aspects of the past couple of years has been coming to terms with that. It's really sucky to think being "happy" isn't a choice for me in the same way it is for you, and I feel like I have to work extra hard to maintain what comes so easily to other people. But meditation, and the practice of mindfulness has been a big help. It can't solve the problem, but it gives me the insight to know when I'm hit with episodes of depression; that it will pass, and it helps me work through it in the moment. I'm doing by best not go onto medication for personal reasons, and I hope through exercise, meditation, eating right, and living life according to my values I can manage myself in a healthy way.

Michael Santaly You're doing it right, brother: eating right, exercising, meditation, and reminding yourself that all the highs (and all the lows) are temporary, like waves.. we just have to learn to surf them. Please don't have the impression that it's "easy" for any of us (it's called practice because we ALL need to do it.. constantly). You'll find the right balance to have the medication work with you, not against you, and never identify with the the depression. It's something that you have, not who you are. Thank you for sharing, Michael. I appreciate you.

Thank you Timber, this video is perfect in timing. I suffer from anxiety as well as add and depression. I'm definitely gonna try this because I recognize the part of letting your thoughts control you instead of the other way around. And giving names to my anxiety etc should create some perspective and distance from it. Thanks for sharing the thought. :)

Lifelong anxiety sufferer, started and continues to be worse in social situations and has morphed into general anxiety. Awareness and focus are beyond doubt very effective self help methods which I use daily, however before medication awareness of the moment was difficult as I was simply aware how anxious I was. Both together has been best for me. Thanks for raising the subject Timber 😁

I have noticed that keeping awareness on my breath slows my breathing down and I can get out of the hyperventolation loop. Its probably a combination of Samatha and Yoga breathing but it helps my Anxiety attacks and Panic attacks..

Thank you for your kind & helpful perspective and efforts. I've suffered from depression most of my life. But only in the last year has anxiety also become actually debilitating. Especially for the last few months. Since beginning a new & extremely stressful job having to daily deal with a very, very difficult person. For the first time in my life some days I feel on the verge of a breakdown.... I try to meditate but have a very hard time doing it regularly or effectively.

This is really great advise. Thank you ! I found it curious naming your emotions. Alot of times in our society we think of emotions as negative making us push them away or get absorbed by them. It seems like giving them a name might make us be more gentle with yourselves when feeling them. It also seems like it will bring more awareness to them and make them more friendly to work with. I like this idea and am going to try it. I have also found over the years that sitting quietly and focusing on the moment really does help with anxiety. In my most difficult times I find it hard to do but always have hope that if I keep trying it will get easier . Blessings to you !

I suffer Anxiety and its so bad i struggle to just sit down and read a book because i will be stressing about work, wondering if i locked the car and even thinking about something so stupid like if my bank account still works on my computer which is nuts, i freak out about work and wonder if my boss actually likes me and i stress about if i said something silly at work and now no one likes me and will not want me back, i also stress about money all the time, i wish i could just calm down but my mind is always looking for something to freak out about. I thought once i got my car license a lot of this might stop for some reason, but as soon as i got my lisense my brain was looking for new things to worry about, anxiety is like a drug

Wow! I am experiencing a lot of anxiety from work and it is triggering my eating disorder. When I think about my work day, I realize that I multitask until my mind can no longer focus on a single thought long enough to get any work done. That means I do my work after hours when no one and nothing is vying for my attention. Time to think about who my demons are and give them names.
@TimberHawkeye
@TimberHawkeye 9 жыл бұрын
Kate Green Multi-tasking is not as productive as we are led to believe it is, and even when we get a lot of work done because of it, the quality is never 100% (arguably, it can't be 100%, because we never gave it our full attention). We spread ourselves very thin for too long, until, like you said, your "mind can no longer focus on a single thought long enough to get any work done." It then affects other aspects of our lives, and we find we can't focus on anything for too long (not just at work, but at home, when we try to read, or even in our relationships, when we try to hold a conversation about a single topic, our mind jumps around from one thing to another). It's fixable.. and as difficult as it may be to quiet the mind, it will be far more difficult to live the rest of our lives without it. Make you wonder if the problem is really attention deficit or sensory overload, ya know? First things first: awareness, and you're already there, sis.. Namaste.
