Just watched it. I liked it. It's nice to see a film not based in Tokyo. 7/10 from me.

I don’t think it was totally bleak it was about a man child who couldn’t become mature and and remained a namahage. A tub licker. Also the namahage is used to make children respect their parents. For the rest of the year if kids act bad parents ask them if they want namahage to come back.
