I think the reality is that Rory's real goal in life was to go to Harvard. She achieved that and that was it. She was interested in journalism, but I doubt she cared about it as much as getting into Harvard. I mean even when Paris was making those charts during their last year at Yale, Rory wasn't interested. She always seems to be a step behind. It's the same as how Rory didn't know she had to do extracurriculars to get into Harvard. I guess that's the consequence of having a parent that never went to an ivy. Rory must have been confused about her two worlds. One side is priveleged and the other is average. Lorelei was never stuck in between. She was forced to live a priveleged life and had that identity until she completely left it. Rory was going back and forth so she could never really fit in anywhere. If she hangs out with normal people they will consider her spoiled and rich but if she's with the rich kids she won't relate to their upbringing and she doesn't live the same lifestyle. It's hard especially since she's a people pleaser. She would have to explain her whole life story for someone to really understand her. I don't blame her for not being comfortable called priveleged, but at the same time she's not average. You can compare this feeling to how children of immigrants in the U.S. feel. They feel loyal to both countries and have two identities or maybe biracial people. It's not easy.

She is socially awkward and super intimidated and has yet to learn the necessary social skills to be approachable and polite, but that under no circumstances means she's robotic. She worked her ass off for Harvard and still didn't get it and that sucks. Yes she works a bit too hard, stresses too much, and needs to learn how to take breaks but saying that she's just away from an anxiety disorder is a messed up thing to say🙈 Secondly I'm not saying Rory didn't work hard. Please read what I said carefully. I said that she got in without doing half the work Paris did. Rory has always worked hard, but it's those who work extra, after hours (like Paris did including extra curriculars that she did) who make the mark. Rory sure is a gifted child who works hard, but everything just happens to work out for her. Everyone treats her like she's a goddess who is always bright and right, just like her mom treats her (she even mentions in one scene "If you see a girl walking around with a halo, that's my daughter Rory" ) . She's got rich grandparents who she even borrows money from at one point without even asking her mom. And the ONE time rory faces rejection from Mitchum Huntzburger, who rightfully says "The thing is in the real world, it's never enough to do just what's asked of you" Rory takes that to heart, steals a boat, is sent to jail and literally drops out of Yale. She lacks the drive that Paris had. Paris picks herself up after such a hard rejection of Harvard, gets into Yale successfully, has a boyfriend who becomes her future husband, has two wonderful kids and a successful job. Rory on the other hand has none of those things, because in her head she's too entitled to these things, so naturally doesn't make an attempt to put in the extra effort that requires one to make her mark. @@salonikullar3627 I'm going to apologize first by saying after the halo bit I'm not reading the rest because just started season 2 of Gilmore girls and I really don't want to get spoiled. Please take my answer with a grain of salt, because you have obviously seen more of Gilmore girls than I have, so I'm just explaining it from my perspective. Paris, the poor girl was constantly under stress, CONSTANTLY, which made her lash out at other people in her environment because, for Paris, everyone who is not doing what she wishes to accomplish works as an individual within her vicinity is just another reminder of her greatest fear, Rejection. She reverberated this almost hive mindset throughout the entirety I've seen her at Chilton. Who was the first to sabotage Rory the minute she saw someone different? Paris What's most ironic is that Harvard is the place that now looks for applicants that express some sense of individuality, as high marks and scores on papers is just not enough to know that you can be an amazing student, unique and interesting enough to be considered. So all of those extracurricular activities that Paris does is ironically the exact opposite of what Harvard wants because she has no interest or fascination with them, she's only doing them just to get into Harvard, a very black and white anomaly for this show, making it no different than playing safe in exams and giving the most traditional and cliche answers for exams and sticking to the rule book. Also if i'm not mistaken, Paris comes from a very wealthy family

Not all valedictorians make it big in life, not all toppers make it big in life. That's the reality. If you work hard and keep going and if luck is on the right side of the line then you make it big. What I kind of found unrealistic was that her private school focussed a lot on memorizing obscure trivia facts, and we never really see her doing the sciences/maths, or anything more applied - and I’m not sure I would consider someone with purely encyclopedic knowledge “smart”. I guess that’s realistic too, in the sense that she kind of follows a poorly constructed idea of intelligence and never really sees the bigger picture outside of literature.

Dean is so insensitive to Rory and her life. She couldn't spend time with him because she needed to work towards her goal of going to Harvard. You can always spend time with people, but Harvard is a one-time thing. Also, in season one, where Rory and Dean broke up because Rory didn't say "I love you" back, and Dean got mad about it, its just ridiculous. Its her choice whether she wants to tell him that she loves him or not, and he should've stepped back and thought about her life and why she wouldn't have wanted to make things so official. Granted, Rory did kinda help wreck his marriage later, so...

I remembered how much I loved Gilmore Girls when it aired when I was same grade as Rory (16 years I was in but was held back in kindergarten) and feeling the vibe in senior year of the pressure of applying to college. Even watched graduation repeatedly on tape since getting close to graduate of thar nervous feeling. I know lots admired Rory on her reading and academic and loved her fashion but to me was the opposite where my fashion was more of hippy artsy fashion and for reading had a hard time since English wasn’t nice to me (have a speech/language disability which yes complicates things when try very hard). Also got to socialize with friends in high school and was extremely active in school activities and volunteering. I was happy on those accomplishments being very active and not pressuring that just to get into college. For Rory, man she needed a lot of work than she realized. Thank you Paris for reminding her.

Rory was a bad and entitled girlfriend. She cheated on Dean, with Jess, and no wonder he became jealous. She never communicated with him, instead she would run off to Jess. Rory kissed Tristan, flirted with him while with Dean. He was 16 as we’ll mind you, of course he’s going to get upset when his girlfriend won’t say I love you. I mean who wouldn’t!? She ended up using him until Jess finally wanted her. Then when Dean is married, Rory felt ENTITLED to have him back, she played a huge role in the affair. When her mum confronted her, she said Dean is mine mine mine. No Rory, you didn’t want him remember? I’m sick to death of people making out like Dean is the devil. He was a GREAT boyfriend, besides being overbearing at times. At least he didn’t up and leave, not communicate like Jess did. He stuck around and actually tried with Rory. She was the one who pushed him away. She was the one who went behind his back with other boys.
