Instead of having the demon out in the world causing Shannon to be eternally pregnant because of shannon being the opener, the demon out in the world shows that shannon and her baby are actually safe from possession and the couple simply brought the demon out. So my vision of the ending is the slightest bit more positive than yours with shannon giving birth while a demon is wandering around instead of being perpetually pregnant.

I actually read on some other site that since Audrey was the weakest one she was going to be the host for the demon (as seen when her back was beginning to contort apparently), but then she died due to her injury. That left Henry to be the weakened one, having lost his will to live after his wife had just died. Your explanation works well too though, especially the ending you had for Shannon and her baby instead of just that the demon let them live because it didn't need to harm them.

I think if Shannon was doomed to be pregnant forever/pregnant with a demon, Vanth would have gotten in the car with her, or attacked and possessed her. I also think the bendy demon wouldn't have been trying to eat through her stomach if there was a demon baby in there. I think Vanth going into the woods means that Shannon is safe. Jackson was grabbed by either grandma and grandpa's ghosts, happy to be reunited(why didn't they just do that in the first place?). It seems like the house is stuck in a time loop, like the Overlook Hotel. Considering that Ian already sacrificed his mom, there were two mothers sacrificed instead of one, and Shannon was only the doorway for the spirits. Damn, why didn't Ian just go the Paimon route, lol? Just my theory.
