Raised in the notorious Possilpark area of Glasgow, James English witnessed the darker side of life from a young age, leading to criminality, the loss of a promising football career, and battles with gambling, drug and alcohol addiction.
Now host of the hugely successful Anything Goes Podcast, he has replaced chaos with peace, and helps others find hope through his show, his documentaries, and his efforts for the homeless.

Honestly this has to be the best interview ive seen in a long time. It's nice to see James on the other end, he's suddenly become real if you get my drift. Fairplay Mr English you have come far, you should be incredibly proud of yourselves. Now get back to your own channel and give us another cracking interview.

James, you are living proof that you can overcome diversity. You were born into your family, environment, neighbourhood, etc. That's you, and it never can leave you. You don't want to leave it as you're now nourishing your past, your family, your environment, people. I watched this interview and totally connected with your story. Imagine this girl born into alcohol, a drug fuelled home to a mum who was breaking down due to her being a people pleaser, a father who was severely mentally unstable, an alcoholic and lived in a dark bedroom for months on end. I had 2 brothers who were diagnosed in their teenage years with schizophrenia. My sister was being severely abused at home, and here I came into the picture with no clue what my future really held. As the years rolled by my life was visiting mental health institutions, drying out facilities, watching my lovely mum crumble then a huge situation happened within my family (I'm choosing to skip all the stress, hurt, abuse, chaos, poverty, suicides stories in-between) and I was alone in my flat at the age of 15. Still went to school, still laughed, played the big cover-up. Now skip 22 years, and one trigger from my past leaked into my future. Boom, I went into a world of mayhem. It took all my strength, self-worth, and power to get through. I ended up being diagnosed with CPTSD, then years later, chronic pain, cfs, ibs, tinnitus (daily), autoimmune illnesses. Had to give up the life and career I was so bloody proud of due to ill health all due to me being born into a family full of problems (running through generations). Today, I am a 58 with a very unwell nervous system who has a fantastic life, family who love me, quiet home, learning how brilliant I am at crafting, gardening, etc. No one gave me this life, and I gave it to me. I fought hard with a belly full of drive, love, and respect for myself. I like myself, I'm proud of myself. The story is still there. My life hasn't been easy, but I decided that I'm not going out of this world the way I came in. Keep being you James ❤

The fact that James can sit and admit all the ugly parts of his past…. That’s a real man right there. A man who has acknowledged his mistakes in life and is now doing better. I’ve now listened to both Liam’s and James’s stories, and it’s no wonder they are both tough men. They’ve been through a lot 🙏🏼

I’ve been watching James’s podcasts for quite a while now - I love the rawness and realness of them… real people all walks of life! It’s been so interesting to finally get to know more about James and for him to be on the other side of camera so to speak. What an amazing man James is! I’m so happy that he’s found his role in this world… there’s no doubt he was born to get this people’s life stories out there and connect to them as he does so well. Keep going James… behind you 100% on your continuing journey of success… much love. ❤

I’ve risen up from the ashes so many now times being a hard working single mum. But I’m struggling to make sense of it , I keep saying to myself Trust the process. I’m in constant chronic pain, I’m a single mum of 3 kids I’m the only breadwinner of my family. I’m on reduced hours at work, I get up everyday and keep fighting through unbearable pain to provide for my kids. the feeling of not being able to provide for your kids due to ill health has made me surrender to my knees and made me see things from another level . I get up everyday and still show up. But this has really knocked me on my arse, physically, mentally and spiritually -trying to find sense of it and not being defeated and this will pass soon , Watching podcasts likes this helps.

Hugest respect to you, Ceri. My Mum was a single mum of 3 kids too and went through really tough times raising us. I'm 65 now and will be forever grateful to her. I know that I wouldn't have had many of the chances I've had in my life if she hadn't worked and struggled to provide for us all, just like you're doing now. I hope life catches you a break at some point and hope, too, that you have others to turn to sometimes to help you through. You're kids are lucky to have you as a Mum.

Wow, I was reading your comment then after you said chronic pain with 3 kids and working. Total respect to you, girl. Speak up and advocate for you and your family (which I'm sure you do). I suffer from mental health issues, which then sent me on the path of chronic pain and ill health. My career went, friends went, etc etc, you know the script. You can do this girl ❤

I am a massive fan of James english and wached his anything goes podcast. Didn't expect to relate too his story so much thanks for having him on a lot of truth bombs in this. I watched my friend fall like 90ft off a car park and die i was a few seconds away from him, on that same year my uncle OD outside our house at christmas and my granny died of cancer. I was 15 years old ive came on and off the sesh and watching this really moved me and i feel less alone.

Brought a tear to my eye at times during this interview, When my gran died I remember exactly the same thing , whispering into her ear telling her I’m sorry and then later on hating myself even more because I thought wait on her final moments i have made it about me but I know she would of understood and been ok with it. Now I know it’s a cliche but your dad will be so proud of you James you’re doing amazing.

... Never knew half your story James, so much resonates with me (too much lol) but see the only took one vodka at your Aunties funeral to spark you off again, back in Feb 2022 I had two small cocktails out with dinner after five months on the wagon & that's all it took to light the fuse for me (again) lol.... had a few more stints, a few more slips (EXCUSES) too but right now I'm just over 9 months sober which is furthest I ever got & I have to say this podcast (which I've rewatched again today) has been really insightful & stregnthened my resolve to keep going,... I've had to stick my discipline on steroids a few times lately (figure of speech you understand, I ain't a roid head as well as a vodka lover lol) & these podcasts with no bullshit realists telling their truths help me no end. Respect for the honesty, sincerely, thanks both 💯 Here's to 2024💖
