Im subscribed to this one fic that updates once every few months and every time they update its a blessing, im also subscribed to a few fics that havent been updated in a year or so, and when/if they update i will be absolutely ESTATIC! I renember reading a post about how a fic someone likes got updated after like, 10 years of not updating and the comments were nothing but supportive, ive seen this with other fics too, just with less of a time span, moral of the story: its not embarrassing to update after a while, in fact your readers will love it, so if you wanna update a story no matter how long its been then go right ahead

I am this AO3 writer. Was nearly done with latest chapter that I kept procrastinating on and one evening one of our 40' poplar trees broke in half and blocked our driveway. The top and bottom half was still connected by a few bits and the driveway is the only way in our out from our property as we're surrounded by trees. So while I stood a distance away holding a flashlight so my dad could see, who was in the thick of things, by the top of the tree that was cutting some supporting branches in hopes the rest could come down properly so we could cut it into logs....well it did but evidently I was a bit too close so when the upper half finally came down the rest of the way, the part that had previously been attached knocked me on my head and took me down to my knees. Didn't lose consciousness but lost my glasses and held my head in the dark while just thinking "Well shit". Felt something wet drip down the side of my head and knew instantly I had a cut and was bleeding lol. Will be honest. I was totally fine aside from the bleeding and was able to walk just fine tho dad was a panicky mess who was holding on to me as if it was needed. In the end it was only 4-5" long of a gash that needed staples. Made tons of Carrie jokes since this was back in october. Had to share the story once I finally finished the latest chapter bc "haha its the ao3 writer meme"

@@kobban63 yeah. Like, they had to search through the night to find their bodies while we were there. Lucky they found both within the first night. The surreal part is that, because one of them was an excellent swimmer and the other wasn't, and the one that swimmed hated their brother and father, there came rumors that he shoved his brother on the water on purpose, but ended up regretting it and trying to save his younger brother. Its weird as hell.

One of my favourites of these was this fic that ended on this massive cliffhanger of the main character being about to give birth while imprisoned by her enemies. It went silent for two whole years before the author came back out of nowhere with "I had a baby a week ago and finally felt equipped to write the birth chapter" and just?? Continued as normal from there???? Story was great as always, updates were completely consistent. Just needed to do some serious research lmao
