Since I had some inside insights in the incoming expansion, I've mixed *truth* with speculation, plus added a hint to something in the thumbnail. Can you spot it? 😉

I really liked the work and effort you put into this video. Besides new civs, could you imagine with "the largest expansion" there will be more campaigns in the documentary styles like the ones, which already exist? So gameplay wise there wouldn't be so much new content (for multiplayer as we hope). Dont get me wrong, i really liked the campaigns and I am sad about it, that not every civ in aoe4 got a campaign. I think this is why I like this channel, you learn about history in an entertaining way :)

I can guarantee to you that we will get enough new civs. But I would like to some more campaigns too, which I don't think it's gonna happen. New maps and biome is also something we can count on. But how would you imagine a Malians campaign to be? xD they weren't exactly in many conflicts. I don't think we'll see a Malians campaign soon.

New Maps and Biome are nice for a fresh look. I agree with you, a Malians campaign would be hard to do. Therefore the other civs have more potential, but I dont believe they get some (hopefully the new civs will get some interesting playable missions), too. However I am still excited for the expansion :) @@BellaCapilla

@@BellaCapilla AoE 2 already managed to find a topic for a Malian campaign. You don't always need to be fighting an outside power, sometimes your own internal conflicts are enough. Albeit that does make it a bit more dry due to less variety of civs in use during the campaign.

I seriously doubt we're going to get 5+ civs. Keep in mind that AoE 4 has a lot more civ differentiation than AoE 1 and 2. The expansion may be more on par with the major expansions of AoE 3, whose added civs cap out at 3 in a single xpac, as it has more unique civs.

Is there any mention of an xbox release? I'd still argue that age of empires 3 surley has the biggest, the 2 released for the original game had 3 completely unique civs, every thing about all war chiefs and Asian dynasty civs where all unique, I know the balance was all over the place bit still I'd be very surprised if the there was as much extra content as there was in them.

I wonder is the feudal wonder going to be a choice between Shinobi and Shinto priests? Since one is confirmed an age up building and the other looks like a unique building just maybe not wonder level

Hol' up! They literally said the greatest expansion yet of the AoE series? And here I was thinking they had only said of AoE4. That changes everything, bought AoE 2 gold edition back in 2003 or 2004, and the conquerors expansion that was included, was massive! Spanish became quickly the favourite civ of that expansion among the many that were introduced along with the significan number of campaigns and maps, not to forget anither great set of soundtracks and music
@BellaCapilla
@BellaCapilla Жыл бұрын
well, wouldn't make sense to say that was the greatest of aoe4, since they never released one for aoe4 before xD hehe but yea, they said "age of empires" during gamescom :) I think it will be great! :D

@@BellaCapilla actually a very good point that vast majority has likely glossed over. In full technicality, all previous civs have been nothing but "free content updates", not expansions. This is indeed the first official "expansion" of AoE4. You've really opened my eyes and made me indescribably more excited for the first AoE4 expansion, perhaps trumping conquerors for AoE2, by how much, no one but devs can say.

@@ArawnOfAnnwn it does have a lot og differentiation, but you can also put it into context what that expansion was for the game. Conqueror's expansion was a whole 50% increase, if not more, relative to the entire AoE2 Age of Kings game at the time. For Sultan's Ascend to also be a 50% increase if not more, relative to current AoE4, there'd have to be at least 2 campaigns and also 5 new civs and an entire new soundtrack and a whole host of maps

There is many things that can be found and speculated around these images. But when it comes to units, you can see that the Japanese have quite many variants. Most likely, as you mentioned on their cavalry, they will have the samurai with banners sort of be a transformative unit, aka Lodya ships on land, able to switch between roles. Archer, Melee and perhaps Cavalry, but definitely between Archer and melee, as you can see the banner samurai above the farm-landmark are using bows, but also ones to the far right are using swords. In AoE3, the japanese Samurai could switch between 2 weapon types at least. So I wouldn't be surpriced if they added the same mechanic to AoE4. Also at the top right corner of the base, where you see a Barracks, Archery range and stable built next to each other, you can see a Cavalry unit with a bow. Note the bow he carries, but also the colour of the Horse being unique to any other cavalry in the picture. When it comes to the heavy cavalry (Lancer unit), their little round shields are placeholders, much like the Lance their spearmen are holding. but the Japanese did infact use round shield, even shields made out of turtle-shell! You can look up Tinbe-Rochin, a Japanese Martial arts still practiced today where they use a small round shield + spear. There is also depiction of samurai using Rattan-shields. But square shields were indeed the more common type that have been found. Another thing to note is that the Katanas on the non-banner samurai (the red ones), and their size. This is highly possible to be a No-dachi, rather than a normal Katana, which makes sense as Katanas were side-arms for samurai. And you can just look to HRE if you have doubts that the size is just for visibility. as HRE has both a short 1 handed sword modeled in, and a big zwei hander about the same size as the No-dachi for their Landsknecht. There were also mentions that the Samurai got an ability to charge in to battle, ignoring incoming damage, without it being any more detailed than that. But I imagine being something akin to the BANZAI Charge on the no-dachi units from Total War Shogun. Which makes sense, as the Nodachi was often used in charges for shock-troopers, but also intended as a anti-cavalry weapon. So perhaps these are MAA with possible weaker armor values but Bonus dmg against Cavalry? The Shinobi aka Ninjas would most likely function exactly like the Spy-unit from Command and Conquer Red alert series. A unit that can disguise itself and thus not being struck down by base-defenses, and then enter buildings to slow down production / steal technology research. (if they researched +1 ranged armor, and you send a Shinobi to their blacksmith, you will get their +1 range armor researched at the cost of sacreficing the shinobi) It might also be something as simple as putting fire on buildings, causing them to burn and loose HP, forcing the defender to send a villager to repair it less it Burns down. Then on the last screen shot, about hte Floating Tori-gate and the shinto priests. I believe you can also see a unique building that probably replaces the Monestary, instead they get a Shinto-Shrine which most likely be a Economical building that helps boosting the eco of the japanese, this is to compensate the fact that the japanese most likely wont have access to deer and boar. So to compensate that, they can build structures that passivly grants resources, something akin to Rus-hunting cabins. The shinto-priest might be a economical unit that somewhat functions as a Prelate or even Imperial Official, buffing nearby units with rituals, which shinto priests were mostly in charge off. Be it bountifull harvest that boost food econ, or support from the local kami to grant defensive bonuses to units close to these shrines. the Floating gate landmark perhaps working as a Shrine itself or plain out give hte shrines a big boost. Due note the 3 Saseins (Offering box) infront of the landmark behind the priests. It was common to "donate" food and in modern day, currency, in order to gain blessings from the local god. That in game might be translated to passive income gained from nearby eco-units. The Onna-bugeisha/Onna-bushi are most likely a type of Militia unit, which make sense, first of all if they were a unique unit, this would grant the Japanese a huge unit-rooster. But as a Militia unit, not really. It also makes sense to be a militia unit as the Onna-bushi were often left in charge to defend the lord's estate, and many would be trained to fight back any potential invaders that might exploit the weakness when the local lord and his retainers are out on a campaign. At least thats what I think of it all.
