My HTML/CSS/Javascript books as well as ChatGPT have been referencing Chrome Developer Tools but I had been shying away from diving into it. This was a great introduction for my current level. I feel ready to dive in as well as informed about the power of the tool itself - especially love the margin/border/padding element display, needed this a while ago

Thank you for the work you put into these entertaining and fun videos. However, as a Japanese Studies graduate who is doing an MA now in samurai history, allow me to share a few criticisms. The presence of women on the battlefield in Medieval Japan has been greatly exaggerated recently because of modern-day politics and pop-culture. Tomoe Gozen in the Tale of Heike, a fictional epic, is just one and on top of that, she is most probably a fictional, made-up character. Jonathan Clements really isn't a good source, but even he confirms this in his book "The Samurai". Women did fight when they had to defend castles and villages while the men were gone, they did train martial arts with naginata and tanto for self-defence, but they did not take part in pitched battles as groups of combatants during the medieval period. Sometimes they would also accompany the men on campaigns, but not take part in the fighting, like Hojo Masako. There were a few exceptions like Tsuruhime (who actually is a historical female samurai unlike Tomoe Gozen), but they were just that - only a few exceptions. One more thing concerning your sources - National Geographic is just terrible, I don't really recommend them... Some years ago in a documentary they said that more than 20% of samurai armies were comprised of women, simply because there is one mass grave near Kamakura where lots of the skeletons were of women, without any proof they were actual combatants. In reality, it's a mass grave where massacred people (not killed in combat) were buried together in haste, probably after the sacking of Kamakura, most were slashed on the heads with blades. Unfortunately, most good sources are only in Japanese (authors like Higuchi, Sasama, Kondo, Owada, Nishimata). One really good English author on samurai is Karl Friday, though very academic and harder to read. Sorry, I know the idea behind your channel is to be entertaining and to just focus on games, not to be academic, just decided to share.

Thank you for your input. I love Japanese history so reading this was great. I’m also glad you understand the point of the video to simply correlate the game with some history, but in the end… it’s just a game right? 😅 they can romanticise and use elements to bring more impact, diversity and fun 🙂 Again, thank you very much for your input ❤️

AOE twists history at will. Most stories are not even close to the truth. A great way to mislead people about their heritage and origins. Ultimately the truth.
@BellaCapilla2 ай бұрын
It’s just a game, in the end. They can romanticise historical elements to implement diversity, impact and fun as they wish. It doesn’t make the inspirations behind it any less interesting or insightful 😉

Wow, great video! Half of those places, I didn't know and I am German... Though, I must say the Landsknecht is a little bit misrepresented in the game. They should be mainly pikemen. They had a big rivalry going with the Swiss pikemen. Greatswords were used rarely and just for very specific tasks like bodyguards or "special operations" in small units were pikes didn't work well. For context, the "doppelsöldner" used them and were paid double because they went on high risk operations. And, I would introduce a mechanic that they can generate resources when attacking enemy structures. They were infamous for plundering. The Landsknecht songs are epic though. :)

Why is the Ghana empire and the modern Republic of Ghana so geographically separated? I mean are the people of modern day Ghana in anyway connected to that medieval empire.
