Wow. 177 TAS @ 18.5 GPH in this video and a manual mixture control like it's the 1960s. My Sling TSi on order will do 153 TAS @ 8 GPH with FADEC. 15% faster for more than double the fuel consumption, or in other words 22mpg vs. 11mpg. And the Sling TSi is practically 1/3 the cost.

All this but still a mixture knob like it's 1960. Wild that they're 7 generations into a million dollar "modern" airplane and still no FADEC.

I know right? Great point. I’m bet though if they added fadec to a piston engine it’d be a fortune to certify.
@JustSayN2O10 ай бұрын
@@mxcollin95 It's already been done. 30 years ago!! Please read the following which I copied from a pertinent website. If you copy the text below and paste it to a browser search box, you can find more information about this engine: +In the early 1990s, Toyota began working with Hamilton Standard to develop a twin-turbocharged aircraft engine derived from its four liter V8 Lexus engine. This project resulted in the FV2400-2TC, a 360-horsepower fuel injected engine equipped with Hamilton Standard FADEC engine controls. Such an engine is twice as powerful as the non-Toyota powerplant used in the TAA-1. The FV2400 received FAA type certification in February 1996 and production certification in July 1997. Before the project was shelved, media reports indicated that the engines would be produced in Japan, and shipped to Hamilton Standard to be equipped with the FADEC controls, and it would be marketed in direct competition to engines produced by Teledyne Continental and Lycoming. Flight testing of the engine was done in a Piper Malibu, and though some media reports state that it was also tested in a “Burt Rutan-designed single”, it is unlikely that such a large engine was tried in the 4-place TAA-1. What’s more, there is some contention by industry experts that Toyota didn’t really plan on producing the engine, but rather it was an R&D exercise with the actual goal of getting their feet wet in the ways of product development, flight test and certification."

Only issue I have with this update is the removal of the avionics and nav switches. What if their is an electrical fire and you need to isolate/turn off these functions? An amazing looking airplane and panel - kudos for what they have accomplished. However, given that Garmin has said they are no longer able to support their 530 /430 products and are not providing a clear upgrade path, could Cirrus or Garmin help us understand the technology refresh / insertion they are planning for the G1000 products in these Cirrus aircraft given that an airframe could easily be in service for 50 or 60 years - way longer than the avionics can be supported?

Even more expensive. Same speed. Same range. Encouraging pilots to just let the airplane figure it out. Profits go to China. I would rather see a new aircraft that is faster and goes farther and/or simpler and lower cost. This is cool, but the right kind of cool for me. I am sure that a ton of low-time folks will love that they can skip the part where you have to think on your own.
