The Nurgle hero regiments have some fun rules. They have ones that are specifically for Infantry, or for units that have Fly

tbh i think they will do with the warcry units like they are doing with the FW units in 40k when you get the battle tome they are out.

Definitely possible. So far they've usually given them a bit longer than that though.

I disagree. FW units were made and managed by a different sub-company (FW instead of GW proper) and they were resin. Them getting removed from 40k was no surprise. WarCry on the other hand is GW and plastic, just like AoS. And at least some of the warbands feel like they were specifically made to buff up the unit count in smaller AoS armies. All the WarCry cultists getting cut from StD was simply because that one army had a big warband bloat. I do not expect such a cut in any other army.

This auxiliary system is the vex of the system. already I’m trying to build an army for storm cast, but there’s little heroes that you really need to buff your army, but you can only end up taking them as separate heroes. They can’t join the rest of our regiment to buff that drop unless I’m missing something.

What do you mean "to buff that drop"? Basically you should take around 3 heroes that are allowed to take the units you want and have no auxiliary units..

You basically get a cap of 5 heroes + knight questor or vexilors (that can go inside many other regiments, or lead them) before getting into auxiliaries. However, the buffs any hero provides aren't usually limited to their regiment (unless there's something specific about that in the warscroll rule itself)

The new army building system really strongarms some armies into "flavourful" lists, while other armies can just take whatever. It is feast vs famine. Also, I feel like we should separate between flexible unit choices and flexible hero choices. FS are definitely great regarding the former, with all heroes being able to take all units. However, their flexibility is only medium regarding the latter, since they can only take Grimwrath Berserkers and Doomseekers as "bonus heroes" in other regiments. Meanwhile, other small support heroes like Battlesmiths and Auric Flamekeepers are forced to be in a regiment of their own. Which greatly reduces their appeal. FS are enviously staring at KO, where every minor support hero can become a "bonus hero" in some of the other regiments.

As a Lumineth player with quite a complicated roster for list building I still really enjoy the way we're building lists now. I do agree with you about fyreslayers though.

Overall I'm kinda conflicted on this new system on one hand it's quite thematic and leads to fluffy yet fun armies most of the time but on the other... it's an entire paradigm shift that is quite a bit more restrictive than ever before and feels a tad bit hamfisted There are also some additional less than obvious factors that will play a massive part as well Like how almost every deepstrike ability (aside from IDK) completely screw with you drop numbers because if you deploy a unit out of a regiment you can no longer one drop deploy it So you'll ideally want to put a single tricksy unit with a leader you want to single deploy so it only eats into 2 of your drops And things like the GHB rules incentivize you to have a tanky general and take a deathstar as their only drop for bodyguard/tactic denial purposes Seems like 2-3 drops with no aux will be standard for competitive lists with 1 or 5 drop lists being almost entirely unviable outside of some funny memes

Are you sure that’s how it works with the drops for a Deepstrike? My understanding was that each unit in a regiment still uses the deploy ability, but they just have to use them back to back and only count as one drop as a group. I’m almost 100% sure individual units that deploy in a regiment still count as 1 drop so long as you put them all in reserve at the same time

@@ryanburruss yeah I read into it more and it seems you are correct about being able to use deepstrike abilities in a regiment deploy action, thanks for catching that! so on second glance that aspect is a bit less wonky for 95% of armies with maybe SCE being an outlier since it has a stipulation that might mess with deployment order

Considering Sacrosanct are not going to be updated, why did GW gave them such horrible rules? Now you not only do you have to beg to be allowed to run them, but the rules are bad on top of that.

I also thought they'd make them pretty good, just as a farewell vibe. Then again, if they were super good, people might feel the need to buy them, only to see them go within a year. Just a thought, not an excuse 🤷‍♂️

Most sacrosanct units have a sensible equivalent in the main stormcast rules, and anyone who wouldn't let you play them as a 'counts-as unit that is still getting updates' probably isn't worth playing with. But it's a shame the rules won't be as thematic.

We're so used to the old system that this one might seem more difficult, but I actually didn't like putting this in regiments afterwards either. I've been toying around with the list building and so far, I kind of like it.

Nah its pretty straightforward. App also tells you everything. Restrictive is what it is. Doesn't mean it's a bad thing but. Wil see.
