Question: What are the most important things you consider when your building an army list?
@Dakkadez6 жыл бұрын
I think you hit on most of them, but I also consider board control. Having a fast, anvil unit (Ironjawz Gore-gruntaz or Vulkite Berzerkers as an example) that can block off sections of the board can control the flow of where your enemy is able to move and attack.

THANK YOU! I have been looking for days to find someone who could explain the keyword/faction/allegiance interaction. I have been going through LoN battletome and those areas stumped me as i am brand new to this game. Watching you make use of the warscroll builder helped greatly! Now to take another crack at building a list.
@AoSCoach6 жыл бұрын
I’m glad it helped! A piece of advice specific to LoN players. You have the option to have allegiance to Deathrattle (for example) or you have the Legion of Night/Blood/Sacrament which doesn’t rely on keywords (other than Death and being in LoN book). Flesh Eater Courts aren’t in LoN so they are treated as allies.

As a matter of fact, I've been sitting here trying to figure out how to gauge optimal unit sizes in lists. A video on choosing the right unit strength would be quite the help. Just looking at my Dwarfs, I want my Longbeards in units of 30, but what about Hammerers? If I'm taking an odd unit like Endrinriggers that come in sets of 3, is it better to keep them sparse and run MSU, or run 9+ of them in a single unit? What do I need to keep in mind when I'm putting it all together? I've been looking at various lists online in forums and I run into a lot of players running MSU and ignoring "horde bonuses" entirely. A guide with rough suggestions on how to run units in specific roles would be nice, like a few examples of how to run an anvil or hammer unit.
@AoSCoach6 жыл бұрын
Take a step back and think about the role that you want them to play. Are they a hammer or are they an anvil? Using the Endrinriggers as an example, taking 9 models would reduce the amounts of drops in your army and will give you a better option of taking the first turn. They'll hit their opponent like a truck and it's easy to buff them with a Khemist. If your opponent attacks them, there could be a good chance the unit loses or is destroyed by battleshock. That's the risk you play. If you ran them in 3x3 units, your drops would increase but you can move three units around the board independantly to seize objectives or split your attacks. Losing models will unlikely cause further damage with battleshock and it's harder to buff them because you'll have more units than characters. When I was running SCE Prosecutors in my Freeguild army, I would run 2x3 units because it gave me tactical movement. In a scenario like battle for the pass, I have 2 fast units who could seize the middle objectives. If they could hold them until the rest of my force got there, they made up their points. The great thing about Disposessed is that you can turn an Anvil into a Hammer with the Pick Axe artefact that lets you tunnel.

Thank you for taking the time to breakdown AOS army building. I think a lot of confusion would be cleared up if the Battlefield roles, like Leader and Battleline - were put in as key words of the Warscroll. Is this not done to sell battle tomes?
@AoSCoach6 жыл бұрын
I guess the challenge is that units can be battleline in specific allegiance armies, and regular units in mixed Grand Alliance armies. EG: Skinks are battleline if you are Seraphon allegiance BUT aren’t battleline if you are Grand Alliance Order... but i see your point. This is only relevant for Matched Play too, which is only one way to play the game.
@jeremyhill97204 жыл бұрын
The whole allegiance thing I just couldn't find any clear and concise information on and it was driving me wild. I needed to know how I could use the new ossiarch bonereapers with the legions of Negash (such as the allegiance to Death since I need more than a few hundred points for Negash lol). Now that I know I can pretty much buy anything Death and figure it out later, it really helps. Great video, very clear, thanks :D /Happy necromancer sounds
@AoSCoach4 жыл бұрын
Glad it was still useful, I’ll be recording this video and other soon. It’s quiet old.
@jeremyhill97204 жыл бұрын
@@AoSCoach Maybe the allegiance info is in the General's Handbook? because I haven't been able to find it in my Battletome or Core Rulebook anywhere. Still hoping there is some rule that lets Ossiarch Bonereaper/Nighthaunt/Flesh-Eater units count as Legions of Negash for rules purposes, cause I would like to have a fairly coherent army with a bit of each (specifically favourite units) but it feels like you lose a lot when you go with a Grand Alliance allegiance. That being said, I can't live without my good ol' skelly minions and death mages/necromancers, so I may have to cut my losses lol.

Question: What are the critical new player skills to develop? For example, knowing each of your own army unit's primary role on the battlefield. It would be great to have a bootcamp for new players. Not sure if anyone does that type of thing. Perhaps Beasts of War in the UK.

A little confused how matched play works. Using Battlescribe, it offers abilities from old generals handbooks. If I were to play competitive, can you only use the generals handbook 2020? Or can you use all of them?
@AoSCoach3 жыл бұрын
First off, drop BattleScribe. Age of Sigmar’s best list building tool is a free tool called Warscroll Builder. You build your matched play army using the latest Generals Handbook (which is currently 2020) as well as any White Dwarf publications.

@@Epicfailgaming001 when you're playing with your mate, do whatever you want. When it comes to competitive or matched play events, we only follow the latest GHB including battleplans, points, and army composition rules. In addition on the Games Workshop website you will also find erratas, where they have updated rules or points. We do this cycle at least 2 a year.

Hey Mate. Looks like a fun list and nice work on taking a crack at such a large formation. From what I can see, you haven’t met the requirements of The Goretide and seem to be missing a few units. I also believe you need 3+ warscroll batallions on top of the Slaughterborn... and it looks like you have 1 (Skulltake). These mega batallions are very hard to fit into 2,000 points. My advice is to start from the basic. Build your minimum list for Skulltake, then Slaughterborn and then Goretide. I think you’ll find that it’ll put you in 2.5k or larger
