The first place I ever went to go look at was a room in a student house, and while there were sooooooo many issues with it, the worst part was when I realized that the doorknob and lock on the front door were duck taped on....😭

I know this is ancient, but I just discovered your channel and so I'm gonna answer your question. In university, I had a couple roommates that drove me absolutely nuts. I'm autistic and literally cannot tell if there's tension or issues unless someone TELLS me. So I could NOT tell if these girls liked or hated or were neutral about me for MONTHS. And then suddenly they decided to have an intervention with the dorm's RA and the entire thing was like the RA starting "now I'm sure everyone here knows why we're here." And I'm like "Uhhh no???? Everything is fine???" but apparently everyone was NOT fine and instead of telling me, they just skipped straight to intervention??? And then they started getting all their friends to report "dog smell" because I had a service dog. And the dorm people already wanted an excuse to get rid of me, so when people started reporting "dog smell" they threatened to fine and evict me unless I took care of it. But HERE'S THE THING. We had a chores contract which I followed to the best of my physical ability, but they ALWAYS IGNORED ALL OF THEIRS and ONE was the trash. On THEIR weeks, it REEKED because it wasn't getting taken out and they'd throw away SO MUCH FOOD. And also they left food rotting on their bed in my room and shit and TAMPONS IN THE BEDROOM TRASH and then complain that my dog (he's a service dog, not a robot - he's off duty at home and has weaknesses like food and bloooood) got into their stuff. It got to the point where I ALSO had to report EVERY SINGLE LITTLE THING they did even if it didn't bother me, just so that the school wouldn't kick me out and would investigate what was going on. And even when they literally HAD AN INSPECTION they cited my roommates because their side of their rooms were literally a major fire hazard AND an actual health hazard. And they told me TO MY FACE that they found no evidence of any "dog smell" but that I had to get rid of the smell that they LITERALLY THEMSELVES COULD NOT PHYSICALLY SMELL or else they'd kick me out. I did not go back after that semester. >.> Oh also with all of this, my roommates entering the apartment started setting off panic attacks that felt like heart attacks and sent me to the ER.... that's how bad it was.

I'm currently in college in a city and looking for apartments has been a nightmare. My current roommates in my dorm are really nice and I wanted to stay with them, but the apartment they wanted was a really long walk from campus in the sketchy back allies of the city, and the previous owners said it had mold that the landlord gave up on trying to fix. I found a nicer, bigger place that was closer to campus, but my roommates said no because of "room layout". Long story short I found different people to live with. My advice for college apartments is to make friends with seniors that might be giving up their places, and start looking early (I started halfway through the first semester and signed the lease about 3 weeks afterwards).
