I’m going to do this when I have my next day off! I was up again most the night because my bedroom wall adjoins my neighbor’s and he plays loud explosive movies and bass-heavy music all night. He’s retired so doesn’t have to be concerned if he gets sleep for work! White noise isn’t helping a whole lot. I did go over a few months ago around 2:30 in the morning and tapped on the front door. The front window was also wide open with even louder volume than I heard from the wall. His wife came to the door (sleeping on the couch, maybe because it’s so loud in the apartment) and said nothing and shut the door when I nicely reminded people need sleep for work, sorry but sure would appreciate it being turned down a bit on a weeknight, etc.. They used to be cordial until I mentioned it. Now just dirty looks. Their upstairs neighbors have called the cops numerous times but (when Noisy Guy was friendlier) he told me he just tells the police the upstairs neighbor is nuts. The management here do nothing. I am looking forward to trying this! :)

I have a disorder to sound as it is. For months I’ve been dreading someone moving in the unit above me and it’s finally happened. I hear every single noise they make. I hear them talking , walking, breathing, watching tv . ALL OF IT. It’s enough to make me cry tbh. I’m going to try some of this on the weekend . I'm ultra skeptical about this. I'm an engineer with minor knowledge of how acoustic waves propagate and can't imagine the electrical boxes being the main channels through which noise flows from room to room absent a door or window. My guess is that the acoustic waves in the original room vibrate the walls of that room, then those vibrations pass through the studs and vibrate the walls of the second room, acting as a sort of speaker and creating sound waves in the air of the second room that are similar to the waves in the first room that produced the vibration. This makes me think that acoustic panels in one or both rooms is the best solution. Not insulating the electrical outlets with putty...

From what I've seen, Soundproof Guide's channel often is about shilling Amazon products (they get an affiliate marketing cut.) Sometimes in their videos they make bold claims without providing evidence, such as the claim that gaps in a wall allow 50% of sound through the gaps. My question is how big of a gap, how much surface area is the gap, what shape is the gap, how much surface area is the wall, what type of wall, and what type of sound frequency or frequencies? And more importantly, where is the proof showing any of this? I know the putty in this video was mostly for demonstration purposes, but I found it amusing that the outlet they used in the video was on a non-connected wall. So, muffling the outlet wouldn't have blocked much sound anyway, since it would have just travelled around the non-connected wall. Still, maybe the concept in the video is true, idk. Maybe there is a Mythbusters episode about it? One can hope.

I tried playing loud music on my iphone right next to a socket in my bedroom, and I could hear the music coming right through the socket on the other side of the same wall, which has another socket that's located right behind or next to the bedroom wall socket. So I dont know if this putty works because I haven't tried it yet, but I'm certain that the noise does come straight through the sockets. My wall has no insulation inside, so I realized the air is connected from bedroom to living room through the sockets.

My husband & I will be moving into an upstairs apartment with 5 of our kids, ages 2-12. I am nervous about disturbing our neighbor's, as my kids have never lived in an apartment before & are very loud. It is all we can afford, though, so I need as many tips as possible. I have had talks with them about not running, jumping, yelling, dragging toys across the hard floor ... etc, but the reality is that it will take time to break those habits. Hopefully my neighbor is patient & gracious during the adjustment period. I am looking for any way to help dampen the sound other than the obvious ones. Would pool noodles on the walls help much? I have seen people cut them in half & make wall art, and you can get them at dollar tree. I just don't want to waste money on solutions that make minimal impact.

There are wall panels of all kinds and please get a thick carpet etc. Speaking as someone living below children playing apparently on hard floor without any insulation whatsoever. Any plushy materials, curtains, carpets, etc. absorb a bit of noise, and there are decorative wall panels, too.

I hear at one wall that it in the middle of my apartment - so NOT facing the next apartment -- cooking noises, cutlery, chairs on floor. I hear from the other wall behind me and esp. from the corner facing my bathroom, people talking, and their shower and toilet. When the lady next door is in a specific place, I hear every word she is saying. The windows are great, I live with closed windows all the time. I hear walking, and I hear music and people laughing from what must be several apartments away. Hear bass sounds clearly. Soo .... Hello, I have a question that I can’t find any answers for online. I rent a room in a shared apartment and there is a door between my room and my flatmates room. This door is never used, we never open it, but it lets a lot of sound in from the other room. I can clearly hear every word of what my roommate is saying, when he’s talking on the phone. What can I do to soundproof this door? We can use heavier stuff than blankets, because the door is never used. I was thinking of a making a sandwich of isofoam and vinyl and putting that within the doorframe, but the vinyl is pretty expensive. You could reply here in the comments with a quick thought I would really appreciate it! Thank you for you videos.

You never mentioned if you had the power turned off. It's always good to share safety tips in these videos. You wouldn't want to be responsible for a viewer getting electrocuted would you ??
