I know you're probably all thinking "but everybody has hard times too" but not everybody has "it"... $1185 for a barely stable apartment with improper roofing. Over $1000??? Those apartments should be only 600-700 for that mess. I live in Ahwatukee, this year we paying 1850 for the 2 bed 2 bath. I have lived here in Phoenix since 1969. You are doing such a great job documenting the city. Especially the dismal housing situation. I live in a Tuff shed I purchased. It has no running water. I have access to the main house. I am retired, pay lot rent and utilities. Twice as much as I qualify for in affordable housing. I am on waiting lists 2 to 8 years long for affordable housing. I was relieved of a home I owned for 20 years illegally by B of A. Lost about $200K, 5 years later I was awarded 500$ in a class action suit. I may not need housing, waiting that long. Single all my life, often working 2 jobs. Never done drugs, never afoul of the law. I have come to HATE Arizona.

So sorry what you've experienced. I moved to Arizona in 1983 after grad school. I absolutely HATED it. It was a dust bowl with one freeway, hotter than hell and cuckoo people even then. People don't realize it but even then homelessness was an issue there because the warmth is safer than the cold so folks would come there. I'm glad I listened to myself and got the hell away from there. I didn't go back for years except thru the Phoenix airport. I finally visited again in 2003. It has changed somewhat especially the infrastructure. I still wouldn't live in Phoenix or Tucson but I love the northern area.

@@maniswil2It's not a competition but L.A. is larger so it will have more "hood." The difference is there is more poverty in Phoenix. L.A. property values are among the highest in the country. Even in Compton the home values are in excess of $500k which is a mortgage of over $3k a month. That isn't a ghetto. It is hard to take L.A. seriously as a ghetto when only yuppies can afford to live there. L.A. today isn't L.A. of the '80s and '90s. These are facts. My family is from East L.A. and Boyle Heights.

I love her openness and I am glad that she is getting help with the doctors. She has been through so much. It is a shame the apartment will not fix the situation with the rain coming in. That is a health hazard and the mold is unhealthy. The rent is way too high.

Big Super most people don't know that you are in TRENCHES of AZ. I commend you for walking them streets and getting the visuals out of how many are struggling. This is truly a gift from God that you have.. Everywhere you go , people from all walks of life.. Open up and pour out , and tell "Their Stories" to you. and the gift is.. You're Humble and pass no Judgement on them. That Gift is your Ministry. God bless you and keep doing what you're doing here. We'll keep watching and Praying. Praying for the young lady from the D just like me.. lol My heart felt for her .. but through it all.. her home was clean and nice she kept it up.. even though its in the hood and not the best.. She has a good heart. I would love to just bless her in some way.

Yo this sister is so so right. Unfortunately even the “nicer” apartment complexes have the same issues. Some of the same conditions and the management. They retaliate for speaking up about what they should already be doing. What you are paying super high rent for. I think you found another lane super.
@Jase9
@Jase9 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Its ridiculous, the people in the management in the apartment complexes treat the people like shit because they know there's so many people looking for a place to stay, they could fill that apartment up immediately! In fact they have a waiting list!

I’m going through it now! Last Friday, my manager gave me a 60 day notice, because I’m complaining about the issues they’re not addressing! Although I was planning to leave when my lease is up late October… I’m so tired of dealing with rude, unprofessional, evil people… It’s like, how you gone get mad and retaliate against someone who tells you the truth! Guess they see me as a trouble maker and whistleblower…. Oh well

If she puts a written work order in via email and it's not done with in a reasonable time frame she can fix it or have it fixed and back charge them to her rent and she would win in court....the time frame they didn't fix it though is very important and depends on the issue...I been doing maintenance 12 years. She has a lot of ground to stand on depending on how long it's been since she had submitted those written or emailed work orders..az is a landlord favored state but some of her issues are rediculous.

It should be a crime how landlords take all this money from residents and don’t keep up with things that need to get fixed!! Especially people who are trying! God I pray you send someone to help this young lady who’s been through a lot already. God you know her heart and her situation please intervene and send some help for her and her children so that they are never homeless again but live in a safe and healthy environment please Jesus. Thank you Lord. God bless you and this young lady and her children as well as her surroundings 🙏❤️

I've lived In Arizona all my life (17) and let me tell you... I have fond memories of living in Phoenix, but damn was it bad. My mom, brother and I decided to move from our gross old home, but damn all the decent places we're so dang expensive. So we decided to move out of Phoenix completely, since we left, it doesn't look like nothing has gotten better, I hope they do though.

I live in Arizona and it’s crazy how much rent is for most places. I remember just about 3 years ago it wasn’t that bad, house I live in was only $1,175, 3 Bed 2 bath. It’s now $1,600, and we’re lucky cause we kept renewing the lease so they couldn’t jump the price up like crazy. We have 5 people in this small house. I lived here all my life, born and raised and I wanna live here forever basically. It’s come down to a point where I feel I will be forced to move away to a state with cheaper housing, having to leave my family behind

More like 2k - 2.5k for anything acceptable house wise even then it's trash compared to what you could get 5-10 years ago in glendale even for $800-1k, not super outskirts. I left AZ born and raised there as well so i can relate, i left the country actually, never looking back. Life is much better in the places you wouldn't expect. Best of luck hope things get better there. Move to where you have peace of mind if you have to, stress is far too much on everyone in America. Don't lose your health and sanity ultimately. I was losing my mind working 16 hours a day can't even find those jobs anymore to keep up

I was in the same type of relationship. We were married for only 1 year but we're high school sweet hearts so I thought. He started to physically abuse me in March and I didn't leave till November of the same year. I left him when he put me in a choke hold and told me "if I'm gonna die your gonna die with me" (he took a bunch of pills). My story is very long and won't say more but I feel your pain and I am sorry you and your kids went through all of that. You are very strong now don't ever let anyone ever bring you down. You are very inspiring woman.
