This will most likely result in the agency being sued by the innocent victims. I understand the suspect turned this into a deadly force encounter when he fired at the Deputies. However, they should have identified and been aware of what was behind the suspect before shooting. Tragic situation and hopefully the 3 innocent victims all make a full recovery.

The police have a duty to act in these matters, they were responding to a call. Citizens don't have the same duty to act. If a citizen acts reasonably in self defense, there isn't a criminal act nor are they civilly liable for damages as long as their actions are found to be reasonable and prudent. In either case, if the actions of police or citizens are found to be unreasonable, unwarranted, or reckless, then legal action is likely to occur. Real life can get messy, this isn't a movie.
