Ya'll forgot the washer that goes on right before the carrier bearing nut.
@xtrchessreal2 жыл бұрын
He put two washers on the other side instead of one on each side of the flange. Major malfunction. Then he wonders why the nut was over driven compared to the original position. ??? So the side with two washers is being compressed more than it should into the new bearing. And the side with no washer will malform the nut against the teeth of the driving propeller shaft. I know its a mistake he should have realized it when he re-watched the video and then gone back to fix it properly. The kind of guy that has a bolt left over from something. Or missing a bolt inside the transmission pan. I'm surprised he compares new parts to old at all - when he is not going to put it back the way it was. Oh well.

I have 2000 Tacoma that had the exact same problem at 125k... an intermittent "pop" in the driveline when pulling up to a stop sign. I was told the transmission mount and center bearing needing replacement by a mechanic. Later, another mechanic diagnosed that the rear leaf springs were wrapping. $1200 later, these repairs did not fix the problem. I then replaced the entire driveshaft and that fixed the problem which turned out to be the driveshaft slip joint near the rear differential. The slip joint had excessive wear in the splines due to lack of lubrication and would bind not releasing freely...thus a pop when it did.

Jim Poole well at-least you finally got to the bottom of it, thanks for watching and commenting, we appreciate it!
@em29657 жыл бұрын
The clunk when stopping is probably axle wrap. extremely common on these trucks, could be as simple as the slip yoke needing lubed, the rear brakes needing adjusted, or it could be the leaf springs. Mine didn't go away until I put new leaf springs in

Hi! The frequency of such cars as land cruiser prado, 4runner, tacoma with automatic transmission there is a problem - when you approach an intersection, you slow down and then at the start you remove your foot from the brake pedal, at this moment there is a push in the transmission. Sadly no. It looks like this is a feature on Tacomas. I replaced everything rubber and I still get the clunk. What I do to keep it to a minimum is switch from Reverse to drive and vise versa but wait a few seconds before applying gas. But even then I still get it sometimes. I don't think it damages anything on the truck tho. I hit 200k miles a few months ago.

Yep I noticed you forgot that washer too man..lol In my experience a "thud" at stops is from axle wrap on these Toy trucks & truck based SUVs. When they release pressure the driveshaft slides into the yoke rather hard, sometimes hard enough you feel you were hit from behind. Putting a ton of grease into my yoke is Toys remedy. I mean it took a bunch of grease inside of mine to stop this too btw not just a pump or two. The 2wd yokes don't have grease fittings like 4wds do so shaft must be removed to grease. A "clanking" and/or the "creeking" sound is almost always first diagnosed as center bearing and/or U-Joint on the Toy trucks. After replacing those the clank was still the same?? Finally I put my pry bar under my trans mount (aka: engine Insulator) and pryed just as you did, as soon as I did it I found the clank noise. Similar to "tin can" hitting under truck as mine bounced but it's not felt? Drives you nuts! My U-joints and CB were really bad too, much worse than this one. At 340k miles on my 2005 Tundra it was time.. Not complaining here in the least, I can handle this repair that often..lol Thanks. Real good job on the vid..

modvs1 I'm chasing the audible metal on metal "screech" on my 2001 Toyota tacoma, any recommendations on what I should check next? Just replaced the center bearing
@modvs16 жыл бұрын
When does the sound occur? The only issue I've had (so far) is the common (infamous) drive line/slip joint backlash on sharp pull ups (braking). Adequate lubing of the appropriate zerk should usually fixes the issue (temporarily). I wouldn't think dry slip joints would produce a metal screech sound.

@texture66 жыл бұрын
I have over 40,000 miles on the truck I think it’s due!
@APDTY6 жыл бұрын
texture6 yeah the key symptom there is it goes away when it warms up, trans fluid needs to be a certain temperature to work properly, make sure the fluid is not low and maybe time for a trans service, at only 40k miles hopefully you do not have an internal trans issue as that is low mileage. If the check engine light is on, make sure to pull codes Incase you actually have an engine issue, if no codes and if the fluid is not low, then I would suggest letting a transmission shop test drive it before changing the fluid and filter, just to get there opinion before messing with the symptoms

It’s a 2003 Tacoma. I bought it with 144487 miles. It’s now at about 189000 miles.
@kyl3dr6 жыл бұрын
@@texture6 Mine drives exactly the same. I put a new transmission in it and it has the same behavior. Over time I've learned that I need to pump the clutch 3-5 times when I start the truck to get the RPM to drop to about 1200. This helps that 1st to 2nd shift be better. Also just learning to feel the shift and drive it the way it wants to be driven is good. My truck has 170k miles and may also need trans mount/center support bearing/yoke grease so maybe this isn't normal, but yeah it is also happening on my truck.
