He is my favorite and I’ve seen him destroy the tumbadoras.it was a summer concert back in 91 in Rochester NY,he was playing with Eddie Palmieri.everyone was astonished by his speed.Eddie went to the timbales and did a solo then comes Richie ,minutes later the band gets up and takes a break for a few.But the whole time he was going at it even though the entire band had been off the stage just Richie beating the heck out of them.the band returns and starts playing again the crowds went insane.10-15 minutes of Cuervo...will never forget..great job Eric

For anyone having difficulty with the “hesitation” beat - The proper term would be syncopation. A syncopated beat is simply an unexpected, off beat quality and technically a note that lands in-between/around/outside the 1,2,3,4 pulse. So in this instance, specifically, it’s the “ah” of the second beat. So... counted like this: 1 e & ah, 2 e & ah...With a ghost note added on the “&” of 2 sometimes.

Hey Eric - Not sure you were aware of this but you sometimes loose the structure of the rhythm when you demo it at a slower bpm - in other words, if you were to speed up your slowed down playing, it wouldn’t sound like it does when you play it fast. It’s not something you always do but I’ve noticed it a few times. An example of this is at 11:22 - you start the shuffle as left hand conga /right hand tumba instead of right hand conga/right hand tumba. I only mention this because it’s confusing at first when I’m trying to learn the rhythm.
