It is about us. And it is effective. Because each individual has this expression that says it all. Some turn cheek. Some look right at you. Some change into different moods. But then it's just them in unison, altogether. The video is using minimal effort to extract our own perceptions of said video as well as trying to conveys certain ideals. James iha has the probably most profound expression. His eyes criticize and Maynard is just like whatever. I told you so kinda. Billy seems exhausted. Etc.

Something special about this song. Not sure what it is - but its like finding that box in your basement that has that stuff you remember. Then you just sit there, in the living room floor, opening the box, holding the things, so full of emotion. Then you look up and time has past, the world has changed. You feel different.

The feel you're describing, I got the 1st time I listened to Undertow, Aenima, Lateralus, and 10,000days. Sadly, I didn't feel that here.
@FarrFromPerfect6 жыл бұрын
You have to keep in mind this is not Tool. This is APC. So the feeling is different. When Mer De Noms (or whatever it was called) came out it felt familiar but distant. The key thing was it wasn't horrible so you stuck with it......then it grew on you........then you couldn't live without it. This song will get there with you, it just needs the rest of the album to accompany it.
@YeOldeMachine6 жыл бұрын
You're spot on there. Mer De Noms was almost there, but felt unfamiliar at the same time. Every APC album just got further away for me. I think my association for Tool was so strong, at such a young age, that I'm just connected to it in a way I can't connect to anything else...but it's Maynard, so that's what I want. I dunno. It's confusing to explain. Tool hit me so hard and so fast in a way I had never experienced music. At the time I was probably 12 or 13. I just connected to it immediately in such an intense way. The videos, the album art, the culture. It felt like it was tailor made for me. I crave that feeling something serious, and always hope for it with APC.
@mcculleyg6 жыл бұрын
Agree, a special song but similar feel and message to the old stuff. It's been a decade or so since I listened to Tool or APC in heavy rotation, so this new song (and video) is both jarring & haunting, like Tool was in the beginning. This song drags with it an eerie authenticity, like Maynard has returned from the afterlife with this song as his bleak and honest revelation.

Thomas Jefferson Not sure how much you know about the singer, Maynard, but he has been critical of Trump in the past "comparing the 2016 election to the film Idiocracy and joking Trump is probably late comedian Andy Kaufman in disguise." One would assume, unless one knows better. It's not a perfect circle. More like an 0:03 oval with New Era Investments like a stack of orange constructing comes in the way of completion. Oh, they believe they have the US in their grip. They have Donald in position (he's a Mormon, don't let him lie to you, personal knowledge). They think that because they have a plethora of Mormons in the CIA, military, Congress and senate, FBI, etcetera, that they will destroy us like they did various countries in Europe and China and Russia, just like in Joseph smith's manifesto in the 1850s in Missouri. The long game. The oath that the Mormons would travel the world and bring about insurrection and rule all of these places and then come back and do so here. So they will be able to position the world against us. Well, the angel who visited George Washington on the Potomac, SHE, told him the USA would prevail. So the only doomed beings are the ones giving you the looks in this video(and their wicked organization). The shadow government is the Mormon church. Here's one example: the Mormon church owns AOL (The man listed is a strawman. ) AOL owns Disney, (and black Rock who is making working class people homeless by buying properties and then jacking up the rents to astronomical prices - except to their cult members) the most dangerous place to take your kids to. Have you seen all of the child traffickers arrested in Florida in Polk County? Hundreds of kids returned to their families. Dozens of Disney employees arrested since 2020. The Mormons practice polygamy, and genetically this isn't good, because within one generation, none of the siblings can marry anyone in their town, or reproduce, without genetic malformations because of the incest. So they kidnap your kids. And keep practicing polygamy. And the main, original church still does this. To establish a majority in the world. It's the same reason why any other religion encourages its members to have lots of kids. (Yes, Catholics and Muslims too. ) But more intense. Look at the alternative lifestyle filthy shit that Disney has been putting out lately, including star wars. Stuff not wholesome. Definitely not kid appropriate. Just like the Amalekites who seduced some of the Israelite to worship the goddess of adultery, the Mormons frequently will say to each other they are making money off of the sinful ways of the public. Yet they are the devil's selling the stuff. And just like the amalekites, they will fall prey to their own plot. Prophesied. Represent. Keep the faith. Control your urges. Band together against these hateful, pompous, hypocritical crazies who think themselves God's. They have already lost.

This album is more punk in it's message than most punk albums! I love Maynard and Billy's visceral approach to the state of human life and society! Maynard gets it, he just does; that's why I'm a huge fan of everything he works on. This song hits right in the jugular and makes no apologies for it! Love from Ireland.

@MasterYoda3895 жыл бұрын
that's because it's not the best song . That decision can only be made by a mystical council of druids specialized in music. The video itself is also pretty piss poor consisting of bust shots that are desaturated and contrasted against the background , a visual technique that would crumble if there was a black guy in the group. Not to mention that embarrassing mess of a hair display on that one guy. As for the eyes... It's called a ring light, get over it. friggin porn uses ring lights, it's not a special thing. And it's not that people ignore "powerful messages". It's that they are bombarded with distractions on all sides. The song itself is perfectly fine =-=

@@justafish9618 lol I wish that was the case. Why don't you try it? Make up a draft for a song, find people to perform for you, practice the coordination, perform for the final result. Get a manager , have him offer you a spot, accept the revisions that are being demanded of you. Apply for a video shoot. Supply or pay for recording and lighting equipment. Perform on a green screen , have someone skilled in visual media tell "you" how to act and how to look for the video. Revise everything and publish to the public. Somewhere in all this summarized mess is the innocent view of "songs are messages" that gets diluted and lost. I'm not telling you to not like what you like, but...better pop that bubble sooner than later. Times have changed and the industry needs numbers, not emotions. Most artists use that disappointment and frustration as fuel to push forward. Music has changed in more ways than one : / The middleman has poisoned the waters.

Such a great song in its brutal honesty. I have so much to be grateful for but I have enough empathy to see the suffering of others all around me. The sad fact is that there is no omnipotent God intervening in the suffering of the righteous, innocent and helpless. Their is no omnipotent God intervening while love ones die young of disease, while children are raped and murdered. Love and cherish your family and friends. Their existence is invaluable and life is brutal, beautiful and short. “The new be attitude, good luck your on your own.” But I do believe our consciousness may continue after this physical body dies or at least we can hope for as much.

Interesting lyrics. Pretty spot on in our current state of affairs. They highlight some of the issues facing us today. Though we've faced many of these issues before & in some cases we continue to face them; IMHO not necessarily to the degree that they are now occurring. There's a war against the poor. The meek & well mannered. The merciful & the kind. Chronic pain patients. Those with the audacity to think for themselves; to question authority. There's plenty more of course but I digress from those mentioned in the lyrics. My apologies. Now as for those mentioned in the lyrics I agree with MJK. It's a sorry state of affairs. The weakest & the poorest are suffering disproportionately at this point in time. That would be why I'm taking the time to comment. I do so; that others may be encouraged to contemplate what is mentioned in the song as well as my comments in response to it. Hopefully this will help draw attention to said issues & generate some response to them. Even if I only manage to reach a single person it becomes worthwhile. As the issues are to important to wait on acting upon as for some it'd be to late if it isn't already. So please take the time to look at these issues or better yet act upon them! Thanks to all who take the time to read this & my personal gratitude to those who take action on the issues. Even if it's just posting about them elsewhere, discussing them with people, or spreading the word on social media. Every little bit helps. Even better would be to contact your Congress person or other members of government & let them know your opinions on these important issues. Encourage them to act! Act now before the opportunity to do so passes us by & we don't have the chance to change things. If we act now perhaps we can avoid becoming "The Doomed."

This song is sung through three different perspectives, or actually by three characters. All of the verses with his rougher voice accompanied by the distorted guitar and "war drums" are the tyrant. All of the cleaner vocals that abandon guitar and drums for bells and piano are those of the oppressed. The couple of lines with a clean voice harmonizing with the distorted voice ("And the word was death") is the omnipotent, so to speak. The tyrant and the oppressed exchange alternately during the "Blessed are the fornicates!" "May we bend down to be their whores?", et cetera. This works in whatever context you choose to apply it, but personally, I think it's obvious who the tyrant is.
@EccentricSM6 жыл бұрын
With "the Tyrant" being the hero of the top commenter crying about how Maynard took the wrong colored pill... Interesting how those types don't have much creative thought and just find a person or idea that makes them feel good about themselves, without having to do the pesky thinking part. All you need is the anger instead. I bet there is a saying about angry mobs and how intelligent they are that fits here.. Of course the real war killing us all is the class war, but we just elected somone president for being a rich asshole and having no other qualifications.. So I guess the war on Christmas and those 17 coal jobs is still more important.. Sigh.
