Something special about this song. Not sure what it is - but its like finding that box in your basement that has that stuff you remember. Then you just sit there, in the living room floor, opening the box, holding the things, so full of emotion. Then you look up and time has past, the world has changed. You feel different.

The feel you're describing, I got the 1st time I listened to Undertow, Aenima, Lateralus, and 10,000days. Sadly, I didn't feel that here.
@FarrFromPerfect7 жыл бұрын
You have to keep in mind this is not Tool. This is APC. So the feeling is different. When Mer De Noms (or whatever it was called) came out it felt familiar but distant. The key thing was it wasn't horrible so you stuck with it......then it grew on you........then you couldn't live without it. This song will get there with you, it just needs the rest of the album to accompany it.
@YeOldeMachine7 жыл бұрын
You're spot on there. Mer De Noms was almost there, but felt unfamiliar at the same time. Every APC album just got further away for me. I think my association for Tool was so strong, at such a young age, that I'm just connected to it in a way I can't connect to anything else...but it's Maynard, so that's what I want. I dunno. It's confusing to explain. Tool hit me so hard and so fast in a way I had never experienced music. At the time I was probably 12 or 13. I just connected to it immediately in such an intense way. The videos, the album art, the culture. It felt like it was tailor made for me. I crave that feeling something serious, and always hope for it with APC.
@mcculleyg7 жыл бұрын
Agree, a special song but similar feel and message to the old stuff. It's been a decade or so since I listened to Tool or APC in heavy rotation, so this new song (and video) is both jarring & haunting, like Tool was in the beginning. This song drags with it an eerie authenticity, like Maynard has returned from the afterlife with this song as his bleak and honest revelation.

Yeah, possibly. Except that the majority of people around don't know who Maynard Keenan is, they just don't. He's not like Bono or Bowie or Geldof et al. Go to the opera or a classical concert and do an in house survey, bet they won't know who the flip you're talking about. Polite society simply have never been exposed to his artistic endeavors. Not yet anyway. Imagine rocking up there and unleashing a grab of The Grudge, or Third Eye to such sensitive ears!!, hehe. What fun. I'm guessing when he's done with musical expression, he'll shift formats that will give him greater exposure amongst the conservative majority out there. He's already done some of that with blogs and wine writings. Though I can't see Tool or APC ever getting bona fide mainstream airing. Because remember: Tool is the biggest band in the world nobody has ever heard of. Test it out.

that's because it's not the best song . That decision can only be made by a mystical council of druids specialized in music. The video itself is also pretty piss poor consisting of bust shots that are desaturated and contrasted against the background , a visual technique that would crumble if there was a black guy in the group. Not to mention that embarrassing mess of a hair display on that one guy. As for the eyes... It's called a ring light, get over it. friggin porn uses ring lights, it's not a special thing. And it's not that people ignore "powerful messages". It's that they are bombarded with distractions on all sides. The song itself is perfectly fine =-=

@@justafish9618 lol I wish that was the case. Why don't you try it? Make up a draft for a song, find people to perform for you, practice the coordination, perform for the final result. Get a manager , have him offer you a spot, accept the revisions that are being demanded of you. Apply for a video shoot. Supply or pay for recording and lighting equipment. Perform on a green screen , have someone skilled in visual media tell "you" how to act and how to look for the video. Revise everything and publish to the public. Somewhere in all this summarized mess is the innocent view of "songs are messages" that gets diluted and lost. I'm not telling you to not like what you like, but...better pop that bubble sooner than later. Times have changed and the industry needs numbers, not emotions. Most artists use that disappointment and frustration as fuel to push forward. Music has changed in more ways than one : / The middleman has poisoned the waters.

Interesting lyrics. Pretty spot on in our current state of affairs. They highlight some of the issues facing us today. Though we've faced many of these issues before & in some cases we continue to face them; IMHO not necessarily to the degree that they are now occurring. There's a war against the poor. The meek & well mannered. The merciful & the kind. Chronic pain patients. Those with the audacity to think for themselves; to question authority. There's plenty more of course but I digress from those mentioned in the lyrics. My apologies. Now as for those mentioned in the lyrics I agree with MJK. It's a sorry state of affairs. The weakest & the poorest are suffering disproportionately at this point in time. That would be why I'm taking the time to comment. I do so; that others may be encouraged to contemplate what is mentioned in the song as well as my comments in response to it. Hopefully this will help draw attention to said issues & generate some response to them. Even if I only manage to reach a single person it becomes worthwhile. As the issues are to important to wait on acting upon as for some it'd be to late if it isn't already. So please take the time to look at these issues or better yet act upon them! Thanks to all who take the time to read this & my personal gratitude to those who take action on the issues. Even if it's just posting about them elsewhere, discussing them with people, or spreading the word on social media. Every little bit helps. Even better would be to contact your Congress person or other members of government & let them know your opinions on these important issues. Encourage them to act! Act now before the opportunity to do so passes us by & we don't have the chance to change things. If we act now perhaps we can avoid becoming "The Doomed."

Such a great song in its brutal honesty. I have so much to be grateful for but I have enough empathy to see the suffering of others all around me. The sad fact is that there is no omnipotent God intervening in the suffering of the righteous, innocent and helpless. Their is no omnipotent God intervening while love ones die young of disease, while children are raped and murdered. Love and cherish your family and friends. Their existence is invaluable and life is brutal, beautiful and short. “The new be attitude, good luck your on your own.” But I do believe our consciousness may continue after this physical body dies or at least we can hope for as much.

In my opinion, APC has always had a darker tone than MJK's other work. Tool seems darker to the ear but is more spiritually themed. Puscifer is just a fun outlet. APC is so internally reflected.

Yes, you're right but APC is not only Maynard's thinking, Howerdel's input is in there for sure.
