It's pretty unsettling how much this song is an anthem for the end of a generation of people. Considering everything is linked to the 50's through the 80's, during the birth of the "Time is money" mindset, the cold war, the music video being set in a 50's period, plastic surgery becoming a thing during their generation...it kinda all works.

Even a couple songs seemed more Nine Inch Nails influenced, but art is about embracing creativity. The song's music was originally written by guitarist Billy Howerdel, and intended for his solo project, Ashes Divide. However, he often presents music intended for Ashes Divide to band frontman Maynard James Keenan to see if he has interest in writing lyrics and vocal harmonies for songs to become A Perfect Circle material instead; Keenan chose to use the song because he felt that "People are going to hate me for this one, so let’s do that."

A really great sadistic commentary on the ability of mankind to unwittingly and simultaneously destroy and entertain ourselves to a great fault. We will wipe ourselves out and be smiling the entire time because we’ll never see it coming. At the same time we know and we wish for it Haha was stoned and really felt the song when I first heard it. I feel like it highlights our species residing on the bleeding edge of our existence. Having discovered a weapon like a gun that could go off in our faces blowing mind and body away at any time while we sit with our fancy water and plastic smiles shouting hip hip hooray! what a radiant crescendo!! Seems like a lot of people always cloud their own personal opinions about a band's new album by letting nostalgia get in the way. There's way too many people criticizing stuff through comparison instead of looking at something as its own thing. Personally, when a band I like that I consider to have a lot of talent comes out with a new album, I'm hoping its going to sound different from their previous stuff. I don't want talent to be wasted on the same sound over and over, I wanna know what else they can do.

Zylph sure, but some of this album could have been edited or tweaked a little more to give it extra punch. There are some slower moments when you could be forgiven for thinking the tape has broken mid song. Maynard's vocals dominate the album, whereas guitars and drums generally take a back seat. The style of Puscifer can't be denied, and it is about on a par with Conditions for my Parole. The final track, Get the Lead Out, is a sleeper, especially with Keenan's knack for arching vocal melodies in that grey echo style of his.
@MrJackstar1236 жыл бұрын
I mean... get the lead out is my favorite track of this album. Sometimes in music, you get to a point where you can't really objectively say if something is good or bad. If you get into it and really start feeling the flow of a song, then for you its perfect, nothing needs to be changed. If you cant get into that vibe, then the song isint for you and that's ok. It's just a question of personal taste.

It took me a while to comprehend this song, when I did whoa, it all made sense. The entire song, melody, harmony, lyrics are an allegory to how society mask the nuclear warfare dangers and tensions with joyous capitalistic consumerism. I, didn't understand the first time I listened to, so it sure sounded weird, the 2nd time I captured better the melody and got interested in interpreting the lyrics, then I saw the blatant nuclear bombing references through the entire text, then I perceived that this song is beyond perfect.

Fucking love this. I love how Maynard can pack so much into what seems like a well meaning melodic song. Is it satirical? Is it referential? Is it in prediction of the apocalypse? Maybe all of those things? I don’t know but fuck if I’m not going to enjoy it. Not all songs need to be trippy whirlwind experiences guys...Lennon and McCartney proved that a long time ago.

What about a Melodic Pasquinade by none other than “Maynard the Apocalypse Bard “ !! Just gies to show that God iIS in every detail,.

Glass half empty view. It's about being thankful for this crazyness and just being here. It's about it being a load of nonsense, but who gives a fuck?
