The rotary polisher is the scalpel of our detailing arsenal here at Apex Detail. This video shows how we take advantage of its cutting and finishing power on this C5 Z06 Corvette. Tis is the finale of the short series and shows the results you were waiting for!!
A rotary offers greater cutting speed, which is very handy when you are either short in time, need to achieve much result on a large surface or have a very badly damaged surface to correct. However, this comes with a price. The increased cutting power makes it easier to cut more then is needed. If you are un-experienced with a rotary, it is easy to polish away more paint then is needed, increasing the risk of burning through the paintwork. This is a very costly mistake to correct. The rotary doesn’t have a forced or free rotation movement, such as the DA. Eliminating the risk of making the machine stop moving. This can sometimes be useful in small spaces. Because the machine doesn’t have any “throw”, it can be more easy to work very close to an edge or sharp corner.

After watching your Rotary series, I went to HF and grabbed a drill master rotary. I tried to use that massive 7 inch rigid backing plate and it felt like fighting a bull. Ordered a 5 inch flexible backing plate. I have been fighting with swirls for a while now using my DA polisher. 2 passes with the rotary and BOOM they were gone. I love the rotary thanks to your channel. I was scared to use the rotary until I saw the video you did with that fender and how long it took to burn through. All my worries went out the window after that. Thanks for making all your videos! They are straight to the point with no fluff!! Thanks again for all of your advice.

Great Result given the challenges you were presented with around the wheel arch, sadly after returning to my car only 30 minutes ago shopping for my mother I now have very similar gouges in my front near side door so, thanks for the tutorial, it certainly fits the situation & certainly was for the best the a-hole he/she wasnt there when I returned as livid doesnt come close, I am seething. Its now time to start taking photo's of who Im parked next to in future so I can return the favour with interest. Why people dont give a shit about others paintwork totally escapes me, this was no accident.

Nice one. I picked up a pair of rotary polishers a couple of years ago now after watching your videos on how to use them and made a decent job of my A3 with them. Never touched a polisher before and it wasn’t too big of a deal. I found the foam pads, especially the medium to thicker foams a pain in the ass to control and to be honest they don’t cut that much. If I had settled with a DA using foam I wouldn’t have got anywhere. I found using wool for cutting and finishing off with the red finishing pads to be the best combo for my situation.
