API 6A valve testing procedure. Wellhead Valve hydro testing. How to test a valve to API 6A.

API 6A wellhead and Christmas tree equipment is a very complicated specification. The spec covers a wide variety of equipment. I will specifically cover the valve portion of the spec. There are 3 different PSL levels listed in the spec. I will show you an overview of each.
The specification gives pretty straight forward requirements when it comes to pressure, number of test and holding times. In this video I broke down each PSL in to 3 categories.
I hope this gives you a better understanding of each different PSL. I may show you how the test is performed on an actual valve in a future video. If you feel unsure if the information is correct. Please check the spec and make the determination for yourself. However, I can tell you it is correct. If you have any questions or concerns drop a comment down below and I will do my best to help.

General question, How will they connect the Butt-Weld (BWE) end connection valve for hydro testing?

In general when you have a butt-weld end valve. You will have need to have a test rack or some kind of set up that compresses the valve. Testing butt-weld valves is a little more difficult and requires more equipment. Hope that helps. I will try and do a future video on butt-weld connections. Thanks for watching.

what would be the torque during seat test for opening the gate?

The break torque is different for each manufacturer. It’s hard to say exactly unless you know the manufacturer, size and pressure class of the valve. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching.
