What an interesting quote to end the trailer on. “Let’s see how far you can fly… on borrowed wings.” That seems to be a recurring idea in the dialogue for this trailer, this implication that you’re flying under the name of or in the Raven of a dead man. Curious how that will factor into the overall story.

They did say something about multiple endings and being able to go back and find different paths that aren’t there in the first play through. It’ll probably be a fall out new Vegas situation where you’re doing contracts for different corporations. We’ll probably learn their lore and motive for wanting the Coral and we’ll make a decision at some point in the game to side with a specific faction (or staying a lone wolf). Definitely gonna be a banger! Can’t wait wait to find out what they do

From the sounds of it they aren’t saying that because you’re using someone else’s ac or name who died but because you’re an ac flying under the banner of someone special’s merc company, hence calling you a dog. You’re doing all these amazing things but it’s not your name that’s gaining fame but the merc company’s. Imagine metal gear solid 5 but you aren’t even disguised as big boss, you’re doing the same amazing things but you’re just some grunt no different than the ones you recruit doing all these things under the monicker of one of big boss’s men. Some see you as only being here because of who you work for, others wonder how long you’re going to hide under the name and truly show who you are independent of that.

@@fatalvenomX Most AC games the callsign and AC name are special. I mean you almost never here the pilot's real name. Names like 9 Ball, White Glint, or Shade are scary just because they have a rep of being the best pilots out there. There was even a line, "why steal another's callsign?" I don't think Walter factors into it as he seems to have a really bad rep. It seems like your pilot is stealing the clout another merc built up through his deeds. That line, "Let's see how far they can fly on barrowed wings" makes sense because if your a wet behind the ears pilot and you tried to do missions some SSS ranked pilot is expected to do, you'll probably die quick. I mean Exile who is known for killing ACs, steal his name and they have you going up against some rank 10 in your starter AC would probably be the end of you.

@@dagonofthedepths I think you're on the right track, but remember this is the far future, and is supposed to have little to nothing to do with the older games right?... So why bring back "Raven"? As just as nostalgic thing? Nah, it wouldn't have been in the trailer as a teaser if it were simply a nostalgic nod to the older games. I feel it's more of a case of "who is this pilot that Walter's got running around now? And why are they using some archaic name?" Even the dialogue in the game kind of references that they're just more curious about who you are, rather than seeing your existence as some nuisance early on. "One of the infamous Walter's hounds, interesting, you ready to climb the wall?"(said by someone that you meet right before you face your first boss, which is my best guess as to what's going on there) "Callsign is Raven, priority subject for termination, high on the list" (Later on in the game probably, maybe by an enemy faction to the pilot you fight the first boss with or a rival corp) "Let's see how far they can fly, on borrowed wings" (Said by the same AI voice that seems to be calling out attacks, so probably your "corp".) So you see, in my opinion, some are regarding you with curiosity, some are hitting you with bounties. I don't think they are mutually exclusive, hell, in 4answer you could end up fighting your former allies depending on which branch of the story you walk onto. So all these could be being said by the same person, but I don't believe that to be compelling enough for any storywriter Fromsoft would employ. I think you're simply someone, who is latching themselves onto a name of a forgotten band of ace pilots, some see it as interesting, others as a threat. Our task should be to see which ones will benefit us the most for our personal goals. :p

@@HaruHoneybun In 4A your potentially fighting yourself. Anatolia's Mercenary is the person you play as in 4 and he's the pilot in White Glint in 4A. The guy you play as in 4A is a newer merc that was never part of the Lynx War. It doesn't really surprise me they're not up in arms about a stolen callsign if that's the narrative. I mean your mercs. Half the time you run into people it's as enemies. As a player I'm sure you wouldn't be happy when your half empty after a long mission then your controller said, "oh enemy AC incoming, and it's Reiterpallasch the rank 3" if what actually showed up was Killdozer I doubt you'd be mad. As a professional I think most people would be more curios on how they live up to the name assuming they don't have some personal connection to it. On the corp side that's more of a problem as they are getting bamboozled but like I said, that's usually a self-correcting problem. Plus a lot of interviews really made it seem like your some unaffiliated merc there free to choose his own contracts. I don't see a corp ruling you letting you do that. Plus that hurts non-linear storytelling and they said this has multiple endings. I don't think your identity is a main plot, it almost never is beyond, "your so cool" you get near the later half of games like this but well have to see. it is a better thing to focus on for a trailer where you don't have to get into all this complicated world centric stuff, spouting dialogue nobody will understand.

My body is ready. First mech game I ever played was Armored Core 2. Since then I have looked for similar games that give me customization and the feel of power that comes from a mech. Mechwarrior 5 has been scratching that itch recently, but I am ready to jump back into AC and go ham before being destroyed by cannon fodder.

I'm starting to think it isn't a coincidence that the mechanical designer for Armored Core, which is published by Bandai Namco, also has a hand ar designing an entire faction of mobile suits in Gundam: the Witch from Mercury, which is an IP owned by Sunrise Bandai.

@@Omega77232 yeah but somehow I wouldn't put it past them to have some kind of agreement to share artists. Fromsoft has had a lot of dealings with Bandai these past few years and, at the very least, it seems like their relationship with Bandai Namco is profitable for both of them.

Glad they have back weapons like in the older titles. I don't mind weapon switching in 5 but I really miss all the builds I had with quad/tank legs with heavy hitting armaments. Love Armored Core, day 1 pre-order!!

Not to mention the weapons in 5 felt like padding with 20 of the same gun with slight stat changes that was really underwhelming. At best in the older titles there was roughly 2 to 3 of each gun type but each one had it's own quirk that made them stood out along with the unusual ones. I'm glad that they are bringing back the mechs from 4 while also seemingly taking notes on not making them be able to fly all the time because as interesting as it was it did defeat facing your enemies head on to instead just carpet bomb them and dodge any incoming attacks easily.

@@huyle-ob8rg Absolutely right on! I hate scan mode with a passion but watching any high ranking game involved popping in and out of seizure mode. Also making shields block exclusively one damage type is such a poor decision to introduce shields into the game. I'd go as far as to say adding a third damage type was a mistake from the start

I hope they bring back the shoulder unit. One of my favorite builds involved a UAV antenna on the back left with a scrambler on the back right and flares on the shoulder for missile diversion, with two laser blades as primaries.

Traditionally the moonlight energy blade shoots a beam after the slash, I’d be surprised if they showed it off in the first gameplay trailer considering it’s usually a hidden weapon.

@@spiraljumper74 Traditionally, outside of Human+, blade wave are the LS 1000W (and it's successors' schtick). Moonlight's schtick is that it's the strongest energy blade -- it just happens to be have the flashiest blade wave if you have Human+. Speaking of, now that Armored is published under Bandai Namco, why don't translate *kyouka ningen* to Newtype? lol

I'd recommend Armored Core 3 or 4Answer. Armored Core V was much more grounded than other Armored Core games, and more multiplayer focused. I hear this game will be between the speed of AC 3 and 5, with the boost maneuvers and agility of 4.

Can't wait to see how they (inevitably) implement "Souls-isms" into the world. A corrosive swamp, Boonlight Beamsword, Giant Dad, Wall, and LMSH type mech builds, an unnecessarily difficult boss that's surrounded by flowers... who knows?
